Race Specific Churches

How would it sound if you joined the First WHITE ARYAN Baptist Chruch........ how does that sound ? welcoming? I think not but it really is the same thing.

I wouldn't expect someone who only speaks spanish to go to an english speaking church. You might as well try getting a message from barking dogs if you don' undersand he language.

well sometimes i am afraid of people. But not at church. Not even if they use an improper name. Just not for it , i had a friend invite me to his church it was called by some racial name. he new it was divisive because he was quick to tell me i was welcome to come eventhough the name made it seem like i was unwelcome.

Well I have an issue with these race specific churches, so much so that I have told a friend that I cannot have anything to do with her so long as she goes to this one race specific church. I dont know if I did the right thing, I told her I love her and am not judging her but that I just have issue with it, which she knows about...I also talked to the church about it but of course they have done nothing about it and won't do anything about it. Anyway...God will tell me what he thinks on judgement day (or before).

no they say stuff like "Oh anyone can come" as a defense, but come on, would you join if you were a different race? methinks not...

I dont understand what you are saying. If a church was named Latino Baptist Church and you were not Latino and when you walked in everyone was Latino would you care to join? Furthermore, I have gone to the church and whether they admit it or not, they promote racism and cultural superiority as well as segregation, when you are in that sort of a one race setting it is impossible not to...Christianity is about Christ, not division amongst races and cultures, under his fathership we are one family and a church should not promote segregation for someone who would like to join but would feel uncomfortable doing so.

[The Church I attend was established and built by Polish immigrants. Many of the Catholic Churches in my city have the same beginnings, but with a different ethnic group: Italian, Slovak, Irish, etc. Over time, the cultural and language differences faded. It was never about exclusion, though. It was about people of similar language and culture settling in an area of the city and building a church. Anyone was, and is welcome.]

Could it be that your perseption is distorted? If people are telling you that you are welcome to attend and it makes you feel uncomfortable, maybe you just don't like those people. Sounds to me like you have issues.

No, this is exactly my point. This church (and many like it) was an English speaking church. Obviously if it is a situation where they do not speak English then it it a seperate issue entirely.

Yes, well this was a race specific church in that the name of the race is in the name of the church, i.e. Latino Baptist Church. Most people who attend the church are obviously Latino and remain so.

No I do not think she has issues neccessarily. I attended this race specific church and even though I looked over the fact that race was in the name AND it was almost totally Latino, I cannot ignore the atmosphere it breeds. Naturally there is an air of superiority, racism and cultural superiority, how can there not be? Bottom line, church is church, and race should not be a means of divisiveness.

It is kind of funny that white people who complain about "race" churches never want to join a church which is not majority white. They of course demand that people in Churches which are not majority white stop it, and go to a majority white Church.

Bad argument...who said that white ppl want a race to go to a majority white church? There are non-race specific churches that are not majority white depending on where the church is located. But going to a church that is majority Latino (as many churches may be) is a huge difference from going to a church that is race specific and called a Latino church--especially if they haven't even the excuse of location.
