Israeli strike, agreement, or regime collapse: Scenarios for the Iranian bomb

The Iranian regime is very close to obtaining a nuclear bomb, but it appears the Trump administration is currently trying to stick to a negotiation strategy. What needs to happen for this to change, what options are available to Israel, and what are the chances of bringing down the regime in Iran?

One of the interesting questions regarding Irans nuclear program is why Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, needs this headache. The diplomatic, economic, and even military pressure on him is enormous, as are the prices his country pays for choosing this path. After all, Khamenei is the man who decides everything in Iran, and he is also the one whose published religious ruling prohibits building nuclear weapons. How do we explain this contradiction, the enormous investment despite the religious prohibition and heavy prices, especially at a time when the Iranian currency is recording another all-time low, trading at one million rials to the dollar?

There are several reasons for this: A nuclear bomb, and the national pride it can inspire, could become a unifying factor for the Iranian people at a time when they are falling apart from within, social divisions are widening, and abandonment of religion is increasing. After the blows Tehran has suffered in the past year, success against all odds could help unite parts of the population around a common goal. Presenting the bomb might also justify the difficult economic situation of Iranian citizens in recent years, proving that it was worth enduring the suffering to maintain the country in a position of power. Another reason is related to power struggles within the Iranian leadership, and the internal confrontation between reformist and conservative currents.

The question is whether one of the lessons Iran drew from the current war is that it must develop nuclear weapons at all costs, as a final gamble for the entire pot. As a reminder, nuclear weapons are the means that more than anything ensures the survival of the ayatollahs' regime, and would protect it from further Israeli attacks – especially these days, when it is perhaps more unstable than ever before. If this assumption is correct, it means Iran will do everything to obtain this weapon, and the only way to stop it is through military means before it achieves it.

Trump publicly called on the Iranians to negotiate on the program, asked the Russians to mediate between them – although it's difficult to call the Kremlin a fair mediator – sent a letter to Khamenei through an envoy from the Emirates – a letter that according to reports included a two-month ultimatum to reach a new nuclear agreement. At the same time, the president advanced his plan to increase economic pressure on Iran to the maximum level, to force it to enter discussions about the program.

But Tehran is not willing to back down at this stage. Despite some ambivalence in the position of senior officials in the Islamic Republic, and the clash between different opinions that led, among other things, to the dismissal of former Vice President and Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, most responses to Trump's demands have been quite negative. For example, President Masoud Pezeshkian told him "do what you want, to hell with it," and Khamenei himself declared that the US would not stop them. Among other things, Iran has made it clear that it will not under any circumstances give up its nuclear aspirations, and that in any future solution it will continue to operate a civilian nuclear program – so the room for dialogue between the parties is small in any case. The existence of a civilian program is a guarantee that the Iranians will accumulate more knowledge and will be able to secretly continue activities related to nuclear development. The West cannot risk allowing such a scenario.

But after all this, why have the Iranians gone on alert just now? Why would Israel attack now, when according to estimates there are still at least a few months until Iran reaches an irreversible state? First of all, Iran knew that the ceasefire end date in Gaza was approaching, and that the Americans and Israelis are working together, perhaps trying to surprise it simultaneously with attacks in Gaza. On other fronts, Israel is operating with force, and it is certainly preparing for a major blow to Iran itself.

Zechariah’s barrel

In Zechariah 5:1-11, the prophet tells us about a large barrel shaped object that flies in our atmosphere and is situated on the place prepared for it, in the land of Shinar.

It is referred to as a curse, that will sweep away every criminal and false religion worshipper as well as demolish their houses.

This mysterious object, or objects, has a lead cover and from their size and effects, we can discern they are nuclear missiles. Shinar is the ancient name for the fertile area of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which includes Elam; all now part of Iran.

So, right now, in our day, we have this prophecy coming true. Iran has the technology to build these weapons and the motivation to use them against Israel.   But we who study the Prophetic Word, know the Lord will not allow this to happen and He will destroy the chief weapon of their strength. Jeremiah 49:35

Deuteronomy 32:34-35 & 43 I have sealed up in My storehouse, punishment against My enemies, till the Day of vengeance and wrath, at the moment their foot slips. [make a mistake] For the Day of their downfall is near, their doom is fast approaching. the Lord will punish those who hate Him and cleanse His peoples Land.

Isaiah 2:21 On that Day, the Lord will arise and strike the world with terror.

Jeremiah 4:20 Crash follow crash, for the whole land goes down in ruin.

Isaiah 66:6 The noise and distress that you hear, is the Lord dealing retribution to His foes.  Revelation 6:12-17

Psalms 110:1-6 In glorious majesty He judges the nations, shattering heads throughout the wide earth.   Luke 21:35

Destruction by fire:

Isaiah 30:26a The sun will shine 7 times brighter...A huge Coronal Mass Ejection.

Malachi 4:1 The Day comes, burning like a furnace, all arrogant evildoers will be as stubble, they will be destroyed in a fiery blaze.  2 Peter 3:7

Isaiah 29:5-6 Suddenly, in an instant, punishment will come, storms, earthquakes and a flame of devouring fire. Zephaniah 3:8

Isaiah 66:16 The Lord will judge with fire and sword, many will be slain by Him.

Ezekiel 21:28 A sword of slaughter will flash like lightening. Matthew 24:29

Isaiah 10:17-19 Sudden destruction. As sudden as someone falling in a fit.

Psalms 21:8-9 Your hand will reach all Your enemies, all who hate You. In Your anger, You will engulf them as in a fiery furnace and fire will consume them.

Destroyed at the moment of attack

Amos 5:9 He makes destruction flash forth against the mighty.

Habakkuk 3:14 You pierce their leaders with Your arrows, they are swept away by a whirlwind as they open their jaws to secretly devour their victims.

Psalms 37:12-15 The wicked have drawn their swords and strung their bows, to slaughter the righteous. Their weapons will cut their own hearts and their bows will be shattered.

Psalms 7:12-16 The enemy prepares to attack, he has conceived mischief and given birth to lies. He has dug a deep pit, but he himself will fall into it.

Psalms 9:15-17 The wicked are trapped in their own devices. The wicked depart to Sheol, all the nations who are heedless of the Lord.      Joel 3:4-7

The scenario:

Nuclear tipped missiles are prepared for launching. At the moment the firing button is pressed, the Electro Magnetic Pulse of a massive explosion on the sun will strike the area. The highly charged particles will cause the bombs and the missiles to explode on the ground.

Psalms 11:4-6 The Lord is in heaven, He watches mankind and He weighs out the just and unjust. He hates all who love violence.

He will rain fiery coals upon the wicked peoples and scorching winds will be their lot.

I see it a bit different.

Zech 55 Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll! 2 And he said to me, "What do you see?" I answered, "I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits." 3 Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals shall be cleaned out according to what is on one side, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cleaned out according to what is on the other side. 4 I will send it out, declares the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter the house of the thief, and the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it shall remain in his house and consume it, both timber and stones." A Vision of a Woman in a Basket5 Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, "Lift your eyes and see what this is that is going out." 6 And I said, "What is it?" He said, "This is the basket that is going out." And he said, "This is their iniquity in all the land." 7 And behold, the leaden cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting in the basket! 8 And he said, "This is Wickedness." And he thrust her back into the basket, and thrust down the leaden weight on its opening.9 Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, two women coming forward! The wind was in their wings. They had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven. 10 Then I said to the angel who talked with me, "Where are they taking the basket?" 11 He said to me, "To the land of Shinar, to build a house for it. And when this is prepared, they will set the basket down there on its base. ESV

You’ve shared a passage from Zechariah 5 in the English Standard Version (ESV), which contains two distinct visions: the flying scroll and the woman in a basket. These are prophetic visions given to the prophet Zechariah, and they carry symbolic meaning about judgment, sin, and purification. Let me break it down for you step by step in a clear and straightforward way.

Vision 1: The Flying Scroll (Verses 1-4)

What Zechariah Sees:
Zechariah looks up and sees a massive flying scroll—20 cubits long and 10 cubits wide (roughly 30 feet by 15 feet, based on a cubit being about 18 inches). This isn’t a normal scroll; it’s huge and flying, which signals it’s a supernatural vision with a big message.

What It Represents:
The angel explains that this scroll is a "curse" going out over the whole land. In this context, "curse" refers to God’s judgment or punishment for sin. The scroll has writing on both sides, and it targets two specific sins:

Stealing: Representing violations against other people (breaking commandments like "do not steal").

Swearing falsely: Specifically, using God’s name in vain or lying under oath (breaking commandments about honoring God). These sins likely stand for broader categories of wrongdoing—crimes against people and crimes against God.

What It Does:
The scroll doesn’t just float around; it has power. God (the "Lord of hosts") sends it out to enter the homes of the guilty. Once inside, it destroys their houses—both "timber and stones"—completely wiping them out. This shows that sin doesn’t go unpunished; God’s judgment is thorough and inescapable.

Big Picture:
This vision is about God cleansing the land of evil. The scroll acts like a divine decree or legal document, enforcing God’s law and purging the community of those who disobey. It’s a warning to repent and a promise that justice will prevail.

Vision 2: The Woman in a Basket (Verses 5-11)

What Zechariah Sees:
The angel tells Zechariah to look again, and this time he sees a basket (or "ephah," a container about the size of a bushel). A lead cover is lifted, revealing a woman inside. The angel identifies her as "Wickedness."

What It Represents:

The basket symbolizes the collected sin or iniquity of the people across the land.

The woman called Wickedness personifies evil itself—perhaps representing idolatry, rebellion, or moral corruption.

The lead cover suggests containment; this evil is being trapped or controlled.

What Happens:
The angel pushes the woman back into the basket and seals it with the heavy lead lid, showing that this wickedness is being dealt with decisively.

The Two Women with Wings:
Then, two women with stork-like wings appear (storks were known for their large wings and migratory habits). They pick up the basket and fly it away. Their wings being driven by the wind might hint at God’s power directing this process.

Where It Goes:
Zechariah asks where they’re taking the basket, and the angel says, "To the land of Shinar." Shinar is another name for Babylon (see Genesis 11:2, where the Tower of Babel was built). They’ll build a house for the basket there and set it on a base, like a permanent resting place.

Big Picture:
This vision is about removing wickedness from God’s people and sending it far away—specifically to Babylon, a place historically tied to idolatry and opposition to God. It’s a symbolic way of saying that sin will be exiled, and God’s land will be purified. Some see this as a reversal of the exile: instead of God’s people being sent to Babylon, now the evil is being shipped out.

These two visions together paint a picture of God’s response to sin among His people (likely the post-exilic community of Judah after their return from Babylon):

The Flying Scroll shows God’s active judgment against individual sins, cleansing the land by punishing the guilty.

The Woman in the Basket shows God removing wickedness as a whole, banishing it from His presence so His people can live righteously.

Both visions emphasize God’s holiness, His intolerance of sin, and His commitment to purify His people and their land. They’re meant to encourage repentance and trust in God’s justice.

Prophecy does that, but it is also telling us about real things and events. Look at some fulfilled Prophecy - Zechariah 9:9 says how the King will be victorious and comes riding on a donkey.

If it hadn't been literally fulfilled already; would you make that into just a fiction, a homily; as well?

Nuke missiles are real, Iran has them and has every intention of using them against Israel. They are driven to do it by Allah, who is Satan. But at the moment of attack, the Lord will wipe them out. Ezekiel 7:14-17, +

Commentaries on Bible Prophecy are most often wrong. For this reason: Matthew 11:25-26

I understand what Iran has and wants to do to Israel.  As far as that goes to us in the US also, I just don't see it as part of Zach 55.  It might come closer to the scroll mentioned in Revelation.

This is a most unusual interpretation.

I daresay, you have altered the prophet's vision of a large flying scroll, with writing on both sides, making it a nuclear bomb.

This fantastical description is reminiscent to the Ancient Alien theorists' asserting that Ezekiel's vision of God (chapter one) is actually an alien spaceship.

How do bombs select just criminals and false religion worshippers and their houses?

Scripture presents this as a judgement that God has issued... Do you personally believe God will use nuclear weapons to hunt down people and kill them?

I don't intend to sound harsh, or judgemental, but we're missing the wisdom of biblical imagery... I'm sure you've studied it for many years,(academically), but this is not a valid interpretation.

The scroll is a symbol of God making a proclamation, a judgement, and is most often a message to be spoken by the prophet to whom the vision was given.

The vision is about Israel, namely, the House of Judah. This prophecy is about them being exiled to Babylon, but can also be applied to God's end time wrath, as some prophecies do have a duel fulfillment. (I won't get into that, but wanted to mention it.)

Is God not involved with what is happening in the Middle East?

The writing on this object is purely metaphorical, not actual and document scrolls do not fly.

The "State" of Israel is irrelevant.

God knows each and every person who is a genetic descendent of the man, Israel. That's the Israel Scripture speaks of.

Israel, (God's chosen people, not any phonies who claim to be Israel), will be brought back to the Land, punished and yes, a remnant will be called out. He promised this and prophets wrote of it...

It will occur as Scripture indicates,          not as a man speculates.

I agree that many people who identify as belonging to Christ have no idea what prophecy actually says, and they have "re-created" God's (supposed) intent to fit their narrative, but that shouldn't cloud the real meaning of the text for those of us who are given the Spirit of Prophecy.

This casual view of prophecy is no different than attempting to assign current world events as fulfillment of prophetic Scripture. This has become a trend, and an obsession, with students of Scripture. It is not a correct way to interpret Scripture.

A lead cover...

How does the contents of a basket (even with a lead cover) containing a woman, described as "iniquity" awaiting for her placement in Babylon, relate to nuclear bombs?

And nuclear weapons don't have writing on them declaring God's judgements...

I agree. The true Israelites are the faithful Christian believers, from every tribe, race, nation and language.

The citizens of the State of Israel are mostly not true Jews, as Romans 2:29 describes.

No one today, since the Apostles died out, is able to Prophecy, or make definitive interpretations of world events. There are just a few genuine Prophets who can prophesy over individual people.

What I do is point out prophecies which, in my opinion; fit these times and are supported by other Bible Prophesies.  So far, I don't see any valid rebuttal of my premise regarding the fulfilment of Zechariah 5.  It bears no relation to the Babylon attack.

How do you know?  In the 2WW, many bombs had; Take that Hitler! written on them.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
