WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced Wednesday he would sign “a historic executive order instituting reciprocal tariffs on countries throughout the world” ranging from 10 percent to 49 percent.

The president told attendees: “April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn. For decades our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered by nations near and far.”

Speaking at a highly choreographed event in the Rose Garden at the White House, the president showed a chart revealing that the United States will charge the 27-nation European Union a 20% tariff, Vietnam a 46% tariff, Taiwan 32%, Japan 24%, India 26%, South Korea 25%, Thailand 36% and Cambodia 49% along with other countries.

China, a nation the Trump administration views as America’s main rival, “charges” the U.S. a tariff of 67% “so the United States will charge China a 34 percent tariff,” Trump said. He did not explain why the figure was lower than what Beijing charges the U.S.

However, Trump had even lower tariffs for Britain, with levies of 10% on all goods imported from Britain, the same as it charges the United States.

During his White House event, the president said the United States would impose “reciprocal tariffs” on “all charges other countries levy” against the U.S., adding that Britain charges the United States its own 10%.

With characteristic showmanship, Trump had U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick join him on the podium with a big chart listing reciprocal tariffs country by country.

EXPLAINING NUMBERS

Trump explained some of the numbers causing headaches in several capitals. He claimed the European Union “rips us off” by charging the US 39% percent in tariffs. “We’re going to charge them 20%, so we essentially charge them half.”

An unseasonal chill wind blew through, yet several people worered MAGA (Make America Great Again) hats.

Trump predicted: “In the coming days, there will be complaints from the globalists and the outsourcers and the special interests.”

It came after Christine Lagarde, the head of the European Central Bank, warned Trump’s planned tariffs will have a negative impact worldwide, with the damage depending on how far they go, how long they last, and whether they lead to successful negotiations.

“It will be negative the world over, and the density and the durability of the impact will vary depending on the scope, on the products targeted, on how long it lasts, on whether or not there are negotiations,” she said.

Yet what he calls “liberation day,” Trump embarked on his trademark “America First” language, suggesting the U.S. will withdraw from the world stage.

“The United States cannot continue with a unilateral policy of economic surrender,” he said. “We have to take care of our people and we have to take care of our people first.”

The White House ensured the garden would be filled with pre-screened, hand-picked supporters during the announcement watched by weary financial markets worldwide: Trump emerged to applause and cheers as the marine band played ‘Hail to the Chief.’ He then declared: “My fellow Americans, this is Liberation Day!”

The tariffs are possibly not actually reciprocal....?

@just_abc In the article Worthy News has this listed. Other countries are charging way more than what the US charges them. In the left column you can see how much other countries are charging the U.S. and in the right column you can see how much the U.S. is charging them. I support President Trump in this decision. He is our President in the U.S. and his job is to support and help the people of the U.S. I never read liberal news. I am conservative and I don't trust or care to read the liberal news. This is a great article that Worthy News has given us. God bless you just_abc.

One problem is that the title of the left column is incorrect....

For most of the countries listed.. the figures used in that column is apparently obtained by taking the trade deficit in goods that the Usa has with a particular country.. and dividing it with how much the Usa imports from that country..

Or in other words.. for most of the countries listed.. the tariffs imposed by the Usa appear to have been calculated based on the goods trade deficit.... rather than on any tariffs by those countries.. ?

For the other countries on that list.. they either don't have a trade deficit with the Usa.. (i.e  they and the Usa buy roughly the same amount from each other).. or the Usa actually has a trade surplus with them (i.e they buy more from the Usa.. then the Usa buys from them).... Yet even those countries have been hit by a Usa imposed tariff of 10 percent!  :O

I don't get it?

Ok..  How about the Usa government's own websites?

For example take the country of Singapore.  On the list posted on worthy it showed a 'reciprocal tariff'  of 10 percent being imposed on Singapore..

Below is info from the Usa government's own websites :

1.  From the Office of the United States Trade Representative (Executive Office of the President)  :

https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/southeast-asia-pacific/singapore#:~:text=Singapore Trade %26 Investment Summary&text=U.S. goods imports from Singapore,(%241.3 billion) over 2023.

Singapore Trade & Investment Summary

U.S. goods trade with Singapore totaled an estimated $89.2 billion in 2024. U.S. goods exports to Singapore in 2024 were $46 billion, up 8.4 percent ($3.6 billion) from 2023. U.S. goods imports from Singapore totaled $43.2 billion in 2024, up 5.6 percent ($2.3 billion) from 2023. The U.S. goods trade surplus with Singapore was $2.8 billion in 2024, an 84.8 percent increase ($1.3 billion) over 2023.

2.  From the International Trade Administration

(department of Commerce.. Usa ) :

https://www.trade.gov/us-singapore-free-trade-agreement#:~:text=Besides binding all Singapore tariffs,textiles%2C pharmaceuticals%2C and chemicals.

Besides binding all Singapore tariffs for U.S. goods at zero, the FTA has increased export opportunities for certain U.S. manufacturing sectors, including those that produce medical instruments and equipment, microelectronics, photo equipment, certain textiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.

@Patticats  The american government websites above show that not only does Singapore not impose tariffs on Usa made goods.. but that the Usa actually has a goods trade surplus with singapore..  (i.e. singapore buys more goods from the Usa ..then the Usa buys from singapore)..

Yet singapore is being hit by a 10 percent tariff by the Usa?

Why?

I don't understand?

Thanks.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
