Hello,

I have been a baptist since I was saved in 1989, and I have always been taught that you are saved once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior, and that baptism was an act of obedience, although not required for salvation. The Church of Christ points to Mark 16:16 where it says if you are saved AND baptised, you will have eternal life. I have done both, but for others it may be a confusing point. Thanks for any input! :24:

God Bless,

David

Mark 16:16 could easily be a reference to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and not water Baptism. It should also be noted that verses 9-20 in Mark 16 do not appear in 2 of the most trustworthy manuscripts (greek) of the NT. The doubtfulness of these verses makes it unwise to create a doctrine soley on the basis of what is found in these verses

I hope and pray that you are sincerely seeking the answer to this question. :24:

Mark 16:16 cannot be talking about spirit baptism because that is the Great Commission! Read Matthew 28:18-20 and see that only water baptism can fit in the context. Otherwise, it is like God telling the apostles to do something that they cannot do!

What I am saying is God would be commanding Peter and Co. to spirit baptise which we all know and agree that no man can give the Holy Spirit - only God.

Besides, there are a lot more verses than Mark 16 that show baptism by immersion to be into Christ (how we are united with Christ) and this brings about the forgivenss of sins.

Matthew 28:18-20

Mark 16:15-16

John 3:3-5

Acts 2:38-39

Acts 22:16

Romans 6:3-4

1 Corinthians 12:13

Galatians 3:26-27

Ephesians 5:25-27

Colossians 2:11-13

Titus 3:5

1 Peter 3:21

Try reading over those verses.

And be aware that baptism is the work of GOD. Titus and Colossians both show baptism as the work of God, not man.

I go to a chruch of Christ and have had this discussion with the pastor

we chose to dissagree on this

the thief on the Cross was not baptised and there are many who do accept christ who can not get baptised for one reason or another they will not be in hell just becuase they did not get dunked or sprinkled in my opinion

Ask the Lord to give you His wisdom on this and then move on

In Christ

The word baptism is not an English word but is the transliteration of the greek word "baptizo." I believe it was intentionally untranslated in the KJV to mislead people. King James was the

The Scriptures are quite clear on "baptismal regeneration" as taught by "Churches of Christ" and many of the false cults as well. "Baptismal regeneration" involves but WATER on the OUTSIDE of the body. God calls for the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross and the application by faith of His shed BLOOD re the INSIDE, ie, the SOUL. "The redemption of the SOUL is precious." Baptism is but WATER which can never touch the heart. BLOOD is required. The BLOOD of the Lord Jesus Christ for sinners slain.

Thank You, Lord, for your all-atoning, once-for-all-time sacrifice!

Why did not one person respond to my post?

It has been shown that baptism in water is into Christ for the remission of sins.

This is when and where God choses to save us and is evident clearly in the Word of God that this is HIS work and not a work of man.

Did anybody bother to read the links I posted?

I refuted your point before you made it. Baptizo is a Greek word that refers to one thing being immersed into something else. It was not translated in our early English Bibles because to properly translate it would have exposed the false teaching of sacramental salvation. The verses that say baptized in the Spirit, or baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, etc are saying that you need to become immersed into our Lord and Savior, and become part of His body by placing all of our faith in Him.

Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Galatians 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Collosians 2:12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

1 Peter 3:21 And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you--not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

These are just a few of the numerous verses talking about being immersed into Christ Jesus through His atonement alone, by grace through faith. It is "not the removal of dirt from the flesh" (water) that saves us, but rather "an appeal to God for a good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ" that saves us. It's deceiving because the Catholic and Anglican churches tried to fool the masses into believing that you needed them and their sacraments in order to be saved. If you read the Biblical accounts of water baptism, the gospel is always preached first, and then people come to faith in Christ and are born again, and then they perform the water ceremony as an outward profession of what has already occured within.

There are some verses that refer to the water ceremony, but those verses never say it can save you, and only occur after the person has come to a saving faith in Christ. Only being immersed into Christ will save you, and if you try to save yourself through ritualistic religion, which is what sacraments are, you will not be born again, or baptized in the Spirit of God, because your faith is in yourself rather than God.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
