Hi everyone

My garage has now become the site for a backyard teen band.

We are looking for a really catchy name for it. Any suggestions you can come up with would be really appreciated.

If your suggestion is in Greek, Hebrew or any other language - could you post the meaning as well.

The ichthys or fish symbol represents ChristianityIchthys (iχθύς in the Greek alphabet, also transliterated Ichthus, Icthus, Ikhthus, etc), is the Greek word for "fish". It refers to a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs resembling the profile of a fish, used by the early Christians as a secret symbol and now known colloquially as the Jesus fish.

Origins

It is believed that societies of Christians in the early Roman Empire, prior to the Edict of Milan, protected their congregations by keeping their meetings secret. In order to point the way to ever-changing meeting places, they developed a symbol which adherents would readily recognize, and which they could scratch on rocks, walls and the like, in advance of a meeting. Another story suggests that the ichthys was used as a sort of secret handshake: one person would draw with a staff a single curve, (half of the ichthys) in the sand, and another person could confirm their identity as a Christian by completing the symbol.

There are several theories as to why the fish was chosen. It may relate to Jesus as a "fisher of men" or it may be an acronym relating the Greek letters ΙΧΘΥΣ to the statement of Christian faith "Iησοuς Χριστoς Θεοu Υioς Σωτnρ" (Iēsous Christos Theou Huios Sōtēr meaning "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour").

Ooh. I don't listen to Nirvana - I'm so glad your well informed

I can now stop wondering what your screen name means - just as a matter of interest, would it still work if I just used Kerdos on its' own or apothanein? There are girls in this teen band as well. One of them is learning the drums. We're just looking at kicking around for a few months. Learning the instruments, learning to read music and learning to blend. My son is really keen on instrumentals. He is aiming for lead guitar. I may fill in on bass or rthymn guitar until one of their friends decides what he's doing.

Potter's Clay - Pretty obvious...He is the potter, we are the clay (has this one been used already? it somehow seems familiar, but I'm not usre if that's because it was suggested for our Youth Group band or if it's an actual band)

Things are starting to roll now. We've had the neighbours come over and bang away, we've had friends drop in and stay all day playing the instruments. My son is learning guitar tabs. My daughter who is the keeper of the drum sticks, is a little shy to play, but she does a great job looking after those sticks
