New NBC Show Called Anti-Christian Bigotry

The American Family Association (AFA) says NBC's new show "The Book of Daniel" is an example of that network's anti-Christian bigotry.

AFA reported that NBC received over 400,000 emails complaining about the program, scheduled to begin in January. In addition, local affiliates are being pounded with hundreds of phone calls asking them not to carry the program.

NBC touts the show as a serious drama about Christian people and the Christian faith. The main character is Daniel Webster, a drug addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her mid-day martinis.

The network and other press reports state that Webster regularly sees and talks with a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus.

I saw a few of the previews ~ I wasn't impressed.

Here is an email I received from AFA:

NBC Affiliate says "NO" to The Book of Daniel

Other local affiliates bombarded with phone calls, having second thoughts about carrying the program.

Terre Haute, Indiana, NBC affiliate WTWO has become the first station to announce that it will not carry the anti-Christian program The Book of Daniel. We urge you to call your local NBC affiliate and ask them to join WTWO in not carrying the program. Please call today and ask others to call. The phone calls do make a difference!

Click Here to read a review of the show by AFA's Ed Vitagliano, who has viewed the entire premiere episode of NBC's The Book of Daniel.

AFA has also learned that NBC is having trouble securing sponsors for the program. It appears that NBC will be forced to fill the available ad spots with "distressed merchandise" ads which are sold at pennies on the dollar of the going rate, and with "make good" ads which bring in no money to the network.

Please call local companies which advertise on your NBC affiliate and ask the local advertisers in a nice way to cancel their advertising on the local affiliate if it carries the program.

It is time to make our voice heard at NBC that we will not long remain silent about their anti-Christian bigotry. Here is what NBC considers to be a positive portrayal of Christians and Christianity:

  • The program's main characters include Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest; his alcoholic wife; his son, a 23-year-old homosexual Republican; his daughter, a 16-year-old drug dealer; a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter; his lesbian secretary who is sleeping with his sister-in-law; and a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus who talks to the priest.

  • It is written by Jack Kenny, a practicing homosexual who describes himself as being "in Catholic recovery," and is interested in Buddhist teachings about reincarnation and isn't sure exactly how he defines God and/or Jesus. "I don't necessarily know that all the myth surrounding him (Jesus) is true," he said.

Finally, join nearly 500,000 individuals who have already emailed NBC about their anti-Christian bigotry. Click here to send your email. PLEASE FORWARD TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS! WE CAN WIN THIS BATTLE IF WE ALL WILL GET INVOLVED

Still, it's worth a try. I've emailed all this info, with links, to a local Catholic hospital (the person in charge of media), who advertises heavily with my local NBC affiliate. I firmly stated my opinion and asked the hospital do the same. If the local affiliates would get a call or two from big money sponsors, they may reconsider airing the show.

 After looking further, I am more convinced if we, as Christians, voice our opinions locally and nationally, this show could very well be cancelled. Apparently, the last time AFA went after a show that misrepresented Christianity, it was cancelled. The dysfunctional "Christian" family which will be portrayed in "The Book of Daniel" is supposed to depict a normal Christian home. Liberals and non-Christians feel they have all the rights in the U.S. these days, and if Christians speak up about anything, we're considered ignorant fanatics. We should take a stand in these matters, for our children, grandchildren, and for Christ.

see the following link: http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=22385

Personally, I'm going to send a copy of the PDF form available at the AFA website, with my local NBC affiliate's contact info, to local churches, with notes they should call local big businesses currently advertising with this station, to try to get this show cancelled. Hitting them in the pocketbook will get their attention.

Again, I think it's worth a shot. :whistling: Surely won't hurt to try.

Just one ignorant bible-thumper's opinion. :P YSIC, robin

I haven't seen this show, but I've seen the previews...and I am offended. I think this show is worth voicing our opinions about.

What I did to voice my opinion is I sent an e-mail to thebookofdaniel@nbcuni.com

It's an e-mail that I guess it meant for questions regarding the show, but I used it to make a comment.

If anyone knows of any ways to contact NBC through petition or any other way to make our voices heard, please post it here.

NBC showed the first show tonight. I tuned in for a few minutes. I wasn't impressed. I think NBC should take it off the air. :P

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
