Why is it that the more educated one is, the less likely one is to be a believer?

Is it that intelligence/knowledge can cause arrogance/ contempt?

I think that does happen...the devil likes to get his dirty hands into things that could otherwise be good. The other thing is, when you're well-educated, you feel more self-sufficient. The attitude is "I don't need God or the Bible to tell me what's right, I know enough to make up my mind for myself, thank-you very much." Of course, we all know how often that "works".

Well, true kowledge is GODs knowledge and it is above mans knowledge. Much of mans knowledge is flawed. Man also is easily corrupted with wanting to be his own god , as history shows. We can do this corruption in little ways everyday or in huge way affecting even others.

I think the point of it is that we don't seek knowledge WITHOUT GOD IN IT is the point.

I think being educated is a good thing and we should go for it when promted by God to do so.

Just not that we would become haughty in ourselves, but rather to serve God with all that we are, highly educated or not, a matter or constant humbleness and servitutde before our GOD.

People get puffed up on alot of other things, too. Their looks. Alot of things. None of that focus is of GOD. Yetwe don't forbid looking good etc etc nor learning.

In context , at that time( and still tur today) people sought the new and the phylosophical and that was not the focus for a Christian, but CHRIST.

take care,

elkie

why do we worry about the size of our waist more than the size of our heart ! (saw this and thought I would share it)

You know, that is an interesting question.

It does seem like the educated ones are on the forefronts of theism and agnosticism.

At least, it seems that most colleges and universities are the farthest from faith.

I woldn't say that education is the problem, thogh.

As an intellectually-oriented person myself, I know that my mind is both a great asset and great hinderance.

It's an asset in that I tend to attain Biblical knowledge just for the pleasure of knowing.

It's a hinderance in that there are times I need to stop listening to my head and start listening to my spirit, which isn't easy to do.

The mind is a tough shell to crack.

Hmmm . . . maybe that's why the Lord had to put me through so much pain from an early age on, to get to me past my mind.

The book The Chosen deals with that issue.

If you think about it, what made you come to Jesus? Was all right with the world, you had everything under control, you were skipping down the lane and jsut decided you needed Jesus?

No, more often than not people cry out to the lord out of desperation.

For someone who is intellectually-oriented, it takes a lot to wear down the mind. It takes a lot to get past the mind.

Faith is not logical.

A logical person doesn't like to operate outside of logic.

Does that make sense?

Well, my IQ is variously measured between 127 and 165 (remember the old days when the 'experts' said your IQ could never, ever change? I seemed to lose about 38 points between 2nd and 7th grades....by this time it's in the negative range, and mere association with me is liable to take away your intelligence. (BEWARE! THE "INTELLIGENCE SUCKER IS NEAR, HE WILL SUCK YOUR IQ LIKE A BLACK HOLE AND NOTHING CAN ESCAPE! Run! SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!)

But I digress...... In any event, I do NOT find the rule stands that 'the more intelligent, the less likely to be a Believer. I find the rule actually stands that 'the more prideful about intelligence, the less likely to be a Believer.' The intellectually arrogant think it makes them look 'more smart' to stand alouf of the 'common herd!'

I beleive its more that a well educated person is often well to do. Its not so much well educated means less likely to be religious, but that poor people are more prone to be religious because man turns to God when he is in need more often.

There is also a sterotype here. All of my professors at the university were christians/religious. Even geneticists and other bio profs.

My thoughts are that God want to save all, the educated and uneducated. Maybe we have not done a good enough job contextualizing the Gospel for that particular mission field

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
