Don't Worry You Will Be Dead Soon!

True story...A Church sign on a busy highway said..."Don't worry you will be dead soon!" The telephone line lit up at the church office for the entire week the sign was up. Some thought it was a wonderful reminder of the temporary pain and struggle of this earth. Others thought it was reminder not to worry, because anxiety leads to all kinds of disease and poor health. A few thought it was an offensive sign to any one suffering with terminal illness. The sign probably created 50-60 phone calls with high praise with 45 of the callers and 5 individuals were disturbed by the sign. Of the 5 negative comments 3 were disarmed after the explanation of what the sign meant, but 2 were still upset after they hung up. Was the sign a good idea?

Hmm,

I would have called and asked the church why if they are going to die would I want to be apart of them. I want a church that will live forever and is alive.

I believe it was a good idea.

Don't worry (tomorrow may not come for anyone) you will be dead soon (your earthly journey will be over soon). Very spiritually thought provoking actually for the "unsaved".

In theory, the statement is suppose to instantly expose what a persons view of life is. To the person offended, they reveal that there treasure is here, or at least that they are thinking with the natural mind alone. To the person with a spiritual mind, they instantly see it as a reminder that life here is temprorary. When this sign was up a lady with cancer called and said, "thank you for reminding me troubles here are not permanent. When I read your sign, I could almost feel as if Jesus spoke these words to me on that teary eyed morning." Of the ones who were offended, it was apparent that they did not know the Lord as their personal Savior and they thought the sign was morbid and pestimistic. My theory of communication is it is not always what you say but what question you leave unanswered that provokes thought and hopefully a struggle that puts a question mark in people's minds that only the Spirit can answer.

If I am speaking to someone I love and they are suffering I am not going to stand there and tell them ..."Don't worry you will be dead soon!" ..

How insensitive can I get if I did..
