Are the blessings of God conditional to our response to God? Or would you say they are all undeserved and merely given according to the sovereignty of God as He wishes? Does God withhold blessings as a chatisement for rebellion?

Are the blessings of God conditional to our response to God?

oc

I think G-d's blessings are conditional and belong unto his children of obedience to him.

Or would you say they are all undeserved and merely given according to the sovereignty of God as He wishes?

oc

none of us are deserving of G-d's blessings as we all have sinned and come short of the glory of G-d. But G-d is a just G-d and sent his only son to redeem mankind back to himself according to his sovereignty as he had a plan for mankind.

oc

walking in rebellion will bring the curses of the law upon you walking in the spirit will free you from the curse of the law as you are in liberty this way in you fulfill the lust of the flesh then you will not have the blessings of G-d in your life.

Just curious Why do you ask all of these questions?

I enjoy discussion of such matters...with a ID like Openly Curious you should understand that I would think...If I could I like to ask a question to hopefully clarify your answer...If you believe God gives blessings as a reward for obedience, then you said we don't deserve any of the blessings of the Lord. But you said we don't deserve the blessings...Is there something in a further answer that would help us bridge your two comments so they will not seem to be contradictory

david from new bern please disregard my name it is just that a name as for my answer to you I believe the blessings and promises that are found in G-d's holy word are for everyone who will be born up under the sun through jesus christ our lord but not everyone who is born will accept christ as saviour and it is not because G-d did not provide a way for them to be saved.

So the blessings and promises in G-d's holy word are to and for the saints of G-d who are the children of obedience. The children of disobedience who refuse to accept christ as their lord has no part in the blessings or promises of G-d.

So a non-Christian who is successful is not correct in saying that God blessed him. So are blessings given and withheld from Christians based on merit?

I believe God will withhold blessings from rebellious Christians. I believe He will allow all sorts of problems and calamities in your life to get your attention. This is one reason I'm writing an anthology entitled "What made you decide to serve theLord." A lot of people could be helped by your testimony.

I seem to have offended you somehow. My apologies...but there was no intent to intimidate you. Questions are how we learn and I was trying to possibly learn from you and perhaps you could have learn something by working out your answer. I meant nothing else...

I agree with Times on this. One need look no further than ancient Israel for an example; remember, they were told "choose this day whom ye shall serve" and a list of blessings or cursings were given to them based upon what they did. God told them that if they didn't serve him, a few would put many to flight, the earth would be as brass, etc. So I would say that it is quite obvious that God will withhold blessings if need be.

Deuteronomy 28

Blessings for Obedience

1 If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: 3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.

(read Deut 28:4-14 for all the blessing God gives to those who obey Him):

Curses for Disobedience 15 However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: 16 You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country. 17 Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed.

(read Deut 28:15-64 for all the CURSES God gives to those who do not obey Him):

I find this interesting among the CURSES:

Deut 28:49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young.

Deut 28:43 43 The alien who lives among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower. 44 He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him. He will be the head, but you will be the tail.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
