I guess this belongs here. I was wondering who was the guy who saw God. I don't remember much about it. I read the passage a while ago, but I remember it was like, he had to wait for God to pass him because he was so bright or something. I think it was like, a reward for something. I don't remember. Does anybody know who I am talking about?

Abraham had dinner with Him....

Sarah laughed at what was said....

and Isaac came to being, ( Isaac meaning Laughter )

Moses seen His hind parts (parts other then the face) even seen His hand as he was covered by His hand....

hmmm

David seen the Glory of the Lord shining from the Ark ....

and John, taken up to the Third Heaven..... i am sure he might have seen Him also...

as was said, Isaiah with the Seriphen flying around Him...

However, if the question is meant for the old testament people and if it is meant to be face-to-face, my answer is Jacob, Genesis 32:30

So Jacob named the place Peniel, for he said, "I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been preserved.

Exactly right, that is when Jacob wrestled with God. There is another viewing of God before the wrestling took place with Jacob, which to me is one of the most remarkable verses in the bible. It can be found in Genesis 18: 1-33 when the LORD appeared to Abraham in the plains of Mamre. I will post go ahead and post the King James Version for those that might be interested.

-------------------------------------------

1And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3And said, My LORD, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 5And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. 6And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. 7And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. 8And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. 9And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 13And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

15Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. 16And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. 17And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 18Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. 20And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 21I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. 22And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. 23And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 25That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? 26And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. 27And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, which am but dust and ashes: 28Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. 29And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.

30And he said unto him, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. 31And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. 32And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. 33And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

------------------------------------------

I have had great interest in all the biblical ways GOD has revealed HIMSELF to man and have enjoyed studying this in depth. In the scripture above GOD revealed HIMSELF to Abraham as a man, along with two angels that appeared as men along with GOD. The same angels that later went down to Sodom, but the LORD stayed with Abraham for a while and answered some of his questions.

A few other instances for example were the Moses apperance as already mentioned, through the Urim & Thummim, through dreams/visions etc. etc. There are many other instances where GOD has had some sort of direct contact with man, that to me is quite facinating. I could be so blessed!

EDIT: Oops, I just saw the post above mine explain the Abraham encounter... Sorry to post the same basic thing...

Hi,

1 Timothy 4:16

ASV: who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power eternal. Amen.

BBE: Who only has life for ever, living in light to which no man may come near; whom no man has seen or is able to see: to whom be honour and power for ever. So be it.

DBY: who only has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen, nor is able to see; to whom be honour and eternal might. Amen.

KJV: Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

WEY: who alone possesses immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, and whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be eternal honour and power! Amen.

WBS: Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

WEB: who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

YLT: who only is having immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable, whom no one of men did see, nor is able to see, to whom 'is' honour and might age-during! Amen.

Question: If flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, then how can any man claim to have SEEN God. Jesus himself was clear that no one had gone into heaven and it is in heaven that God resides. (I know that by the Holy Spirit he indwells us, but the father we know is in heaven with Jesus seated at his right hand.) How can anyone see God if he lives in unapproachable light.....? We've not yet been glorified. Many times in the old testament I believe men saw an angel of the lord.

I myself have not seen God, nor do I know of anyone else personally who has. Because Im here to tell you something people and I think it might be worth your while to listen......

If you HAVE seen God, then you are no longer walking by faith. You see Jesus disciples never walked by faith..They walked with Jesus, ate with Jesus, heard him teach and touched him and fellowshipped with him.....That is why it is written, "Blessed are those who have NOT seen and BELIEVE."

Those who HAVE seen God are not in need of faith..and it is written, "The righteous shall live by Faith." and Faith is the evidence of things UNSEEN.

Paul speaks about faith because he never walked with Jesus and when the Lord revealed himself to Paul (Saul of Tarsus) on the road to Damascus, the Lord Jesus had been glorified and was such a bright light that it blinded Saul. You see...? God lives in UNapproachable light. The risen and glorified Jesus was a blinding light. We must look at scripture in the light of all the other scriptures....Clearly in the Old Testament, these men saw someone, but in the light of 1 Timothy it is not at all possible that it was God.

An angel of the Lord perhaps, but not God. No man can see God and Live. We are justified, but not yet glorified.

Food for thought.

Regards,

Ben.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
