Is it wrong for men to wear make-up? And if so why?

Not exactly answering your question but your response feeds into mine. I DON"T wear make-up.............men (usually) don't wear make up, why is it necessary for women to have to wear it????? Because of cultural expectations????? My face looks fine the way God made it, and thats good enough for me!

If I was married,I would still dress nice because I would want to please my husband. :b:

I believe you should be who you are both before and after, I don't believe in the 'bait and switch' idea. If a woman wears jeans and a t shirt before she shuoldn't have to dress up afterwards to keep her man and if she was a frilly feminine, she shouldn't stop because she gets married. Same with makeup.

Cosmetics of any kind are artistic expressions. They either highlight or minimise or try to create an atmosphere that the wearer finds pleasing. There is nothing in scripture, I don't believe, which regulates either sex using them, only that we are to be modest and look like the gender we happen to be. You shouldn't HAVE to wear anything you don't want to please society, makeup, suits, ties, etc. We are "good enough" without anything at all (other than modest clothing to cover nakedness). But there is nothing wrong with the use of cosmetics either...Its more a matter of what expression you are painting on your face and why you are doing it. Painting a pentacle on your cheeks in eyeliner, obviously, would be wrong. Making your lips look smaller or larger on the bottom to even them out is could be a sin...for instance if you were doing it as a prelude to a seduction

I for one, would not trade all the beautiful model types in the world for one plain, honest woman that loved God, me, and had great common sense.

I'm not impressed by a woman that "looks good", I'm impressed by a lady that has wisdom and courage.

I think it goes back to what the motives are for wearing make up.

Do you wear it for attention, to get men to look at you?

Do you do it to please your husband or boyfriend?

Do you do it because it makes you feel better about yourself?

Personally, I wear it only when I dress up.

It makes me feel more like a girl and better about myself.

I work in a traditionally man's field of work, landscaping.

I'd look pretty silly wearing makeup doing that.

Mascara would be running down my face all day and Id look like a racoon.

PS< I know men who use a cover-up stick (makeup) to cover blemishes on their face.

No, they aren't gay.

More of a "General Discussion" topic than Apologetics, I think.

Yes, I know it's fluff and bubble but it 's worth airing. A lady I know bends over backwards in the makeup deparatment, nails, clothing, hair all because her husband likes that look, but I sense SHE'S actually NOT that way inclined. And I mean mini skirts and high heels to Church and she's a mother of 2. She's doing it to please her man. I'm uncomfortable with that kind of control. LNJ

I don't think you should dress to please anyone but God when you go to church.

I once started reading the apocryphal work, The Book of Enoch.

I stopped reading it at a certain point and haven't been able to

force myself to finish it.

Why? It explains how the fallen angels came down and taught

mankind all kinds of bad tricks, weapons, war, witchcraft, drugs,

and guess what else? Yes, makeup!!

make up used for the purpose of highlighting, in good taste, before and after marriage i don't see as a problem. however i have seen too many women use their make-up in a manner that causes them to appear as if they just came from the bar, or like they are working at the oldest profession and just came from work. that i don't think is proper. a man wants the woman he married, not a dressed down version. we recognize a woman's beauty first, and learn to love them second, that is no secret. i first noticed my wife's smile, her upbeat nature and her laughter, then i fell in love pretty quick. as we grow older in our love and in God's shadow, we learn the real and deep stuff of each other. the make up is now second fiddle to who we are. if you find contradictions in this, well welcome to life as it advances and marriage as it deepens. :)

I wonder what a blind man's response would be to that comment. What is HE able to see so he can fall in love with the visual ? Im sorry but all I can hear in this thread is wordly speaking. Speaking for myself, I would not make my choice based on the way you have prioritised... I don't think that you understand the whole essence of relationship. It is supposed to reflect the glory of God. Just as God has birthed a church and desires through the intimacy of relationship with HIM to produce something beautiful with Jesus as the groom and we as the bride, relationship with each other is to reflect exactly the same. In reading this thread, I feel as though I have opened a Cleo magazine on how to find the perfect partner. Why don't you do what Adam did and LET GOD. After all, you already know how many bad decisions you have made in your life, so why not wait on God for this all important one. Food for thought.

Braided hair and nice make-up can make a woman look very attractive, but you should listen to Paul and to Solomon when it comes to the area of women.

Even the proverbs shout a clear warning to those who are "seeking". Please listen to the Word of God. "Like a gold ring through a pigs snout is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion." beware of haughty eyes. This proverb reveals that no amount of make-up or jewellery will ever cover over a heart that is not right with God. Listen to the wise words of Solomon....." I find more bitter than death, the woman who is a snare, whos heart is a trap, and whose hands are like chains. The man who pleases God will escape her but the sinner she will ensnare. "Adding one thing to another to discover the scheme of things--while I was searching but not finding---I found ONE upright man among a thousand, but not ONE upright woman." If anyone was ever qualified to speak about the futility of relationships withOUT God, it was most definitely Solomon. This is not a blight against women as he has also stated that among a thousand men, he found only ONE who was upright.

Let the very first thing that brings attraction be the heart of God in a person. You wont need to look further than that when your focus is RIGHT....

If you choose a person who is not a believer, then expect to live in a house where there are many gods, but no true God. He wont share his glory with another.(This is only in reference to a person who knowingly and willingly chooses to partner themselves to a NON believer. Clearly the Word shows us that this is quite different if one of the two are saved while already IN relationship. Please don't think that I have neglected this. I haven't.) He is a jealous God who has a loving protection over what belongs to him. Dont have one foot in the world and one in the kingdom. Don't compromise one single iota the Truth of Gods Word for your own hidden agenda. God knows your heart and he knows your motives. There is nothing hidden from him. Choose this day whom you will serve... Gods Will ....or your own will.

God didnt fill you with his Holy Spirit so that you could have what YOU want. He filled you so that you could be a witness unto him in the proclamation of the gospel of Christ and that you would speak with great boldness and courage the message of Gods salvation. " Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added." See the message...? Seek HIM and NOT the blessing. When you do that, the blessing will follow because your focus is RIGHT.

Regards,

Ben.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
