The funny thing is Paul mentioned in that very chapter speaking to God (which is what prayer is) in tongues - and there were no stipulations given with this!

And Arthur, I challenged you before to prove that I speak gibberish, but you refused the challenge. Can you put your money where your mouth is?

Going back to the OP:

You know, when Jesus walked the Earth, He had to costantly divide between what was "Biblical" and what was traditional because the preachers and teachers got the two mixed up. I often wonder how much we fall into the same trap.

Just something to think about. :noidea:

Unfortunately nebula, your post is just one more attempt to bash any form of tradition in worship practice. Young or unsophisticated believers who frequent this site, based on your postings, must believe that all church tradition is unbiblical or useless. Jesus separated truth from falsehood, not what was biblical from what was traditional. I've seen you more or less defend Benny Hinn and then turn around and accuse those who would expose him of being too picky and devisive. You seem to question any practice of the historic orthodox catholic church that is more that 40 years old as unbiblical tradition while implying that anything that is new and different is perfectly fine. Obviously my response is based on a cumulative effect or your prior posts related to this subject and not merely related to your post in this thread. I hope it is accepted in the spirit in which it was intended and not just as a random personal attack. Just something for you to think about.

Gibberish is gibberish. Mumbo-jumbo is mumbo-jumbo. Literal national languages of Planet Earth whether English, Francais, Arabic, Italian, Greek, whatever are exactly THAT, literal LANGUAGES & never once in Holy Scripture the aforementioned gibberish. If one speaks in a literal language, someone listening & knowing it, would immediately be expected to say, "Hey, that's my own real language!" - AND THEY DID EXACTLY THAT in Acts 2: 8-11! You'd know what specific language of earth was being spoken, wouldn't you, just like the many different national groups in Acts 2:8-11 who KNEW the national, literal, earth dialects being uttered. Again, something charismatics refuse to come to grips with: ALL biblical languages are KNOWN, UNDERSTOOD, NATIONAL & EARTHLY languages of Planet Earth without exception. So it's vital to get off the charismatic "unknown" gibberish horse. It won't ride.

When I am praying, I often call upon tongues to express my heart to God. The language is an unknown to me--it is known to God, as it is to God I am speaking. That is called a prayer language. Paul prayed in tongues too...in the tongue of angels...not gibberish in the least.

Funny, it seems to ride just fine for me....

Arthur...we who know, know...

All the telling us we don't isn't going to change a thing...

We know you disagree and that's OK...

you are not the only one who doesn't see it...

and doesn't Scripture say "not all"...

1Co 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

1Co 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

1Co 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

1Co 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

I'm truly sorry you failed to respond to the very crux of the matter (as is the case with most charismatics). There is NO such thing in Holy Writ - or do you live only by personal experience & personal conclusions? - as an unknown language anywhere in the Bible. ALL Bible languages without exception - even when God's angels spoke - are KNOWN, UNDERSTOOD, NATIONAL, EARTHLY dialects in every instance. So, ergo, if yours is a gibberish or a mumbo-jumbo, you're obliterating the very classic Acts 2:8-11 New Testament passage from the face of the earth. Why?

Hey - if I spoke Welsh, Nigerian, Lakota, Muskogee, Deni, Kasua, Balangigi, Rawat, Takwane, Ghadames, Southern Puebla Mixtec, etc., etc. -

How many people here in the US do you think are actually going to be able to recognize what I am saying?

This web site lists 7,299 known world languages.

Do you honestly not expect tongues to be given in these languages?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
