Some of us have enough trouble with English to even think about trying to learn Greek or Hebrew

Quite so! But people nevertheless recommend the 'KJ'V as being the Bible to read. I asked a leader of a well-known international mission to youth whether the mission used the 'KJ'V, and the (fully expected) reply was, "Only if we want to put them off Christianity for life." That seems to be the aim of the KJVOers, as they cannot provide a truthful and intelligent case for their stance.

Some of us have enough trouble with English to even think about trying to learn Greek or Hebrew

That applies to absolutely no-one here, though.

Pointer, from what I understand the OT was translated into Greek for those Jewish folks who couldn't read Hebrew. Why didn't God command them to relearn Hebrew?

I'm in no doubt that He did, just as He is doing it to people right now.

(The LXX is full of errors, and Scriptural Hebrew is untranslatable, anyway. Anyone who reads a mere translation of the OT is deluding themselves if they think they have got very close to God's Word to them.)

if I had time, I might be so inclined.

You have the money, you have the time, you have more than enough skill. Just get your credit card, google, and you're done. You can be correcting people in no time.

I'm not usually the type to go too personal, but what credit card? The only credit card I own is a JC Penney card and that's because I work there. I, however, will be paying it off ASAP and getting rid of it.

I have the money and the time, eh? Buddy, by the time I feed and clothe 3 kids, buy gas for my car, a car with 331,000 miles on it, buy groceries and household supplies, and pay bills, I'm lucky to have much left at all!

If you had written that before I suggested that there may be impecunious persons here, it would have been more credible.

Also, what happened to love? You tell me that I "can be correcting people in no time."

'A fool spurns his father's discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.' Prov 15:5 NIV

'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.' 2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV

All Scripture- and one cannot know what that is from a mere translation.

'Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.' Deut 8:3-4 NIV

If God intended for people to know the Bible in it's original languages, He never would have confused the languages at the tower of Babel. Oh wait, maybe the translations got that wrong, too!

God made a world that gives every opportunity to practise evil. Or to do what is right.

And that applies to this conversation how?

For me, it's the NIV. Mine is a study Bible, which helped me A LOT at first, because I was just seeking truth and facts as to weather or not the whole "Jesus thing" was legit. Praise be to God, He opened my eyes, softened my heart and revealed Himself to me in a way I never could have imagined possible!

There is one caution I would like to offer anyone who might be reading this. It's not about the NIV, but on The Message 'bible.' It IS NOT the word of God, nor was it intended to be by it's author. I have read it and found it to be a VERY watered down, New Age, 'seeker sensitive,' version of what a mere man thinks it says and means. I strongly urge everyone to keep it in it's proper perspective.

God bless...

In Christ,

MikeE

hmmm, I agree with the purple sulk on this one. I don't get the point the pointer is making. If this is the case, is the pointer really pointy?

:39: I have to comment on this too. I use the KJV bible too. When I first started reading the bible, I had a NKJV, then I went to the Living Bible, then I went to the NIV, and then I found this paraphrased bible called the Word. All in all I still had confusion on understanding alot of the Bible. Then one day after alot of confusion, and frustration, a child of the Lord told me to start praying to the Holy Spirit for spiritual understanding of God's word. So I did. Also when I gave my Life to Jesus, and received Him as my personal Saviour and I became a new creature in Christ, the rest came. My understanding of His word happened. I tell alot ppl. that feel the same way with different translations of the Bible, which one to use. To me the KJV is the closest translated bible from the original Hebrew and Greek language, I really love it now, and I thank the H.S. for unlocking my mind to understand God' s word using it. I also tell other ppl. they can also use other translations like the NIV, or the NKJV, or AS, etc. as study helps. with the KJV. The power of prayer is the key. YSIC Littlelite :)

Can you show that to be true?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
