We are instructed in how to fast in Matthew 6:16-18 by Jesus himself.

We are not instructed at all. That is not an instruction to fast, even to Jews. Even if there was such a thing, it would not necessarily apply to the church.

Reread pointer I said this is "HOW" we are to fast if we choose to do so. Jesus himself fasted and prayed and we are told to follow His example.

If you personally do not believe in fasting as in the word. Then don't practice it but don't tell others it is not biblical when it is all throughout the word. I think of the terrible things Jesus had to endure on the cross and the agony he went through in the garden and how that he practiced both prayer and fasting in order to keep Him strong and I learn from that as Jesus overcome the temptations of Satan to not submit His will over to the will of the Father to go to the cross.

And Jesus is our example to follow after.

I agree we are to put on the mind of Christ , to be Christ like, Jesus is our example, on we are to live our lives and fasting and prayer was a part of Christ's life. This is my conviction, i needed to add that statement we each have our own walk.

There are tremendous blessings that can come through fasting and prayer

Such as?

answers from God

Strength of Spirit and weakness of my flesh

power in prayer and supplications before God

Overcoming the temptations of Satan

gaining victory in spiritual battles

gaining direction in one's life

the list can go on

Like I said before if you don't believe in the practice and do not practice it don't discourage others in practicing it.

And one who does not ever practice it cannot know of the blessings that it brings becomes it only comes by experience so what can I say further to you if you have never fasted before. For one who does not pray can never experience the breakthrough and tremendous blessings in prayer one get's when they know they have gotten in touch with heaven either. but only those who have know what I am talking about and practice prayer understands these things. So if you do not practice praying what more can I say to you for it only comes by experience so it is with fasting

I realised that. I didn't know why you wrote it, though.

Jesus was crucified. Do we do that, also?

don't tell others it is not biblical when it is all throughout the word.

I have written that there is no command to fast in Scripture. If that is a problem for anyone, they must prove me wrong, or accept it.

It seems to me that those who do not fast receive all those benefits, very often more so than those who do fast. It seems to me that every born again person who begins to fast gives it up sooner or later.

Not the same as dying to sin.

pointer

We are not instructed at all. That is not an instruction to fast, even to Jews. Even if there was such a thing, it would not necessarily apply to the church.

OC

Jesus taught the value of prayer to his disciples in scripture when he was about to be betrayed and go the cross as Jesus was in agony of soul and He told his disciples to pray but they fell asleep and Jesus returned to them and said sleep on now for the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

As fasting does the same thing it keeps our spirits strong within us and our flesh weak so that we may follow the things of the spirit.

Fasting and prayer go hand in hand with each other as in the word you find many places where for example in Luke 2:37--with fasting and prayers night and day.

The apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 6:5-- "in tumults, in labors, in watchings, "in fasting"

Also in 2 Corinthians 11:27 Paul said, "in hunger and thirst in fastings often."

Fasting and prayer are biblical concepts found in the word even if you want to deny them to the church.

oc

Reread pointer I said this is "HOW" we are to fast if we choose to do so.

Jesus was crucified. Do we do that, also?

OC

actually we do Galatians 6:14-- the world is crucified unto me and I unto the world

Romans 6:6-- the old man is crucified with him

1 Corinthians 1:23-- but we preach Christ crucified

2 Corinthians 13:4--though he was crucified through weakness

Galatians 2:20--I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live

Gal. 5:24--they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh

We are to crucify or put to death the sinful desires that are in our flesh and walk in the newness of live that Christ has given us and we must die daily as apostle Paul said and walk in the Spirit.

As again Jesus told his disciples when they fell asleep while Jesus was praying in the garden.

Sleep on now for the time has come for the son of man to be betrayed into the hand of sinners

For the Spirit is willing "but" the flesh is weak.

oc

don't tell others it is not biblical when it is all throughout the word.

pointer

I have written that there is no command to fast in Scripture. If that is a problem for anyone, they must prove me wrong, or accept it.

oc

the concept of fasting and prayer are given in Mathew chapter 6 once again and in Jesus's own life and the believers in both the old and new testament practiced it as the examples above show just that.

Can you thus prove that the biblical "concept" of fasting in not found in the word? If not accept it.

crucified as in Mat26:2

στοιχεῖον

stoicheion

stoy-khi'-on

Neuter of a presumed derivative of the base of G4748; something orderly in arrangement, that is, (by implication) a serial (basal, fundamental, initial) constituent (literally), proposition (figuratively): - element, principle, rudiment.

crucified as in Mat 27:22

σταυρόω

stauroō

stow-ro'-o

From G4716; to impale on the cross; figuratively to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: - crucify.

Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

One does not give a concept. Fasting is mentioned, like animal sacrifices, tithing, washing, many other things that are commanded. Nobody could possible deny that. What cannot be found is a command to fast, in OT or NT. It was apparently the Israelites who devised fasting.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
