I believe that people can lose their salvation when they choose to no longer walk with Christ. This doesn't mean that they were never saved. In actuality nobody has been saved yet. We are not until we walk through the pearly gates of Heaven. The way it stands we are under the promise of Heaven if we continue in Christ.

1 John 2:24-25 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

See, there is the use of the word "IF". IF we keep what was given to us from the beginning we will continue in Christ and receive eternal life. The opposite of this is that if we do not keep that which we have been given then we will not receive the promise.

Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

If Christ has done everything for us and all we need to do is have faith then why do we find a statement like this one?

We all fell short of the glory of God once and he sent his Son to be our redemption, but we can lose that redemption again when we choose not to continue in the faith and walk with Christ no more.

This does not mean that a person is lost - saved - lost - saved - lost, etc. When we are born again we are given a promise of eternal life, but that life is not received until the Day Of Redemption. In the mean time, we can lose that promise if we no longer walk Christ or choose not to repent of my sins.

Hebrews 4:9-11 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

The labour that we do are the works that we were ordained to walk in which is obeying the commandments of Christ. There is a work that we do as Christians and is fulfilled by living the gospel and repenting of our sins. Every time I repent of a sin I did a work in working out my salvation in fear and trembling. This is what it means to take up our cross and follow Christ and because of this labour we will enter into that rest which is eternal life.

We come short of this when we live our lives with unrepented sin or choose to walk with Christ no more.

On Sunday when I was waiting for the Lord's Supper to be passed to me I was reading the bible and came across this passage -

1 Corinthians 11:31-32 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Now, chastening from God serves a purpose -

Hebrews 12:5-8 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

So we see here that God chastens us when we fall into sins. It helps us not to fall back into them. It's like spanking your children for doing something bad. It reminds them that if they do it again they could get spanked. This is all done for the good of our children so that they don't lead a life of corruption. The same is done with us so that we will repent of our sins.

Now, the point here is in the chastening of the Lord. We are chastened of Christ when we have sins that we are not repenting of. The purpose is for us to see the gravity of repentance and that sin, but look at the last of that verse -

"that we should not be condemned with the world"

We are chastened to repent of our sins so that we should not be condemned with the world. This means that if I choose not to repent of my sins that I can be condemned with the world. This would stand to mean that a Christian can lose their salvation and go to hell just like the world will be.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Those that DO the will of God are the ones who will make it into heaven. But what is the will of God?

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

This also means this -

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

When we fall short of this even a Christians we can stand to lose the promise that has been given to us.

:24: very good work.

I've heard people bring up Matthew 7:21 but what about John 6:29 where Jesus says "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent." I understand that what it says in Romans is also the will of God, obviously but I just don't think that a true believer would end up losing their salvation but I guess if they at some point reject Christ and no longer believe then its very well possible but I guess we just have to wait to see. But I don't see someone accepting as fact the Gospel, choosing later on to not believe. Hmm. :24: That is a tough one but as long as we continue like the word says to guard our salvation with fear and trembling, we will one day be with our Lord! Your brother in Christ, matthew

Why is Matthew 26:50 related to this discussion. I am missing something.

Death is claiming Judas was saved.

what scripture gave him that impression is not known?

however, i am providing scripture that claims that Judas was never saved.

it's actually the nail in the coffin.

I just do not see how Mat 26:50 shows that. Is there a possibility it is the wrong reference? If not, please explain it to me.

Shalom, my friend,

Sorry, but "heaven" means "the sky" (Hebrew: Shemayim; Greek: Ouranos); it doesn't have "pearly gates!" The New Jerusalem, the capital city of Future Yisra'el and the capital city of the New Earth, has those "pearly gates."

Matthew 4:4,

What is it that Jesus constantly teaches? He says "If you believe in me,(the son) you shall have eternal life.

I think you are looking at the purpose of the Cross, of redemtion, of why Christ died for mankind on the Cross. To better understand this, we must take a much closer look at creation and the creating of man in the first place. God created man to be in union and communion with Him. He created a creature that could respond freely and was communal in nature.

Because of Adam's sin, Adam was condemned to death and that death sentence is what is inherited by all of mankind. Adam became mortal, he died. We are born dead, in a state of death, called mortal. If we are going to die and return to dust, then any relationship with God, any fulfullment of our created purpose is null and void. This is exactly what the fall means. It is the fall from which mankind cannot extracate himself. He is powerless to give himself life and to atone of his sins. IF mankind could do this or someone else could do this, THEN man can have a relationship with God once again. He can even have this union extend into the eschoton, etenrity, not just here on earth.

Christ redeemed mankind. That is the sole purpose of Christ's work on the Cross.Man needed to be restored to the created status, of being able to live immortally, and with Christ.

Thus, now getting back to your above quote, Jesus will always, generally speak of what His purpose is, what He intended to accomplish, not necessarily how He accomplished the work.

Now, redemption and atonement is all Christ. Man is nowhere in the picture, individually. Mankind is justified, redeemed, reconciled, made right with God through Christ. This means literally all of mankind, every single human beings. It is the meaning and definition of the incarnation. It is how man will recieve immortality.

This is what allows the resurrection in the last day whereby all of mankind will rise from the dead. They can all rise because Christ made all men alive by His death and resurrection.

Now, next, God offers union and communion to all men. He calls all men to repentance. It is by faith that man is justified to God. Faith DOES NOT GRANT IMMORTALITY OR LIFE. Faith is the spiritual union we share in this life through the atonement, and in the next life because of Christ granting mankind immortality.

Now, lets look at what man can lose. Faith is the salvation of our souls. It is what mankind was restored to by Christ's Work on the Cross. Eternal life cannot be taken away from any man, unbeliever or believer. Losing salvation is not referencing Christ's work on the Cross, but the salvation of our souls which is solely based on faith. Thus losing faith, is losing salvation of our souls.

It is no wonder that some actually believe you cannot lose salvation, when they are really speaking obout Christ's work on the Cross which is for all of mankind. In fact, it was for the universe. Col 1:15-20 or II Cor 15:20-22.

The phrases, "losing salvation" is equal to, is synonomous with "losing faith". Now, it should become more abundantly clearer, that one can indeed lose salvation, because it is based on our faith. We are saved THROUGH FAITH. This saving our souls is the reason for our existance, the purpose of why we were created, to be in union and communion with God, freely and for an eternity.

No I dont believe once saved always saved. You can loose your salvation (Hebrews 10v 26 if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifce that will cover these sins NLT) Lotti :)

If we can loose our salvation then:

Jesus is not able to keep us from falling as Jude tells us.

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

The will of the God the Father is thwarted.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
