The fact in this case is that Rev. Haggard is NOT a Charismatic. His church would better be described as one of those mushy 'seeker sensitive' places!

You are correct that a disproportionate number of these cases involve Charismatic churches. The reason for that is that they are ALSO "independent" churches; unaffiliated with a denominational structure. In short, they are a 'one man show' and the Pastor has virtually unlimited power and authority to do WHATEVER HE WANTS: He owns the building, he owns the corporation, and there is no denominational headship to put him in check in any way.

If you want to check the figures out thoroughly you will probably find that 'independent churches' of any theological stripe, have a disproportional number of this sort of problem............

[/quote}

It is fine that the pastor owns the building and creates a corporation out of it. You obviously don't understand the negative implications of being a traditional 501(3)

I'm getting a kick out of this. Not so long ago this same line of thinking was being stated about the Catholic Church, Look at all the scandals, see how this proves that the Catholic Church is corrupt. Now when this was going on how many Pentecostals stood up for the Catholic Church? Now "they" are going after the Pentecostals. I wonder if anyone will stand up for the Pentecostals, and tell them they are being ridiculous. Ok OK I will. You are being ridiculous! Now who should we go after next, Hmmmmm how about the Baptist, they are always good targets.

Waite a minute, aren't we supposed to be the body of Christ.

God Bless us, we need it,

Kansas Dad

I hope my sarcasm was dripping off of the page. all but the last sentence!

How can you get a kick out of something tragic like this? Do you realize how many lives with be ripped apart by this scandal? The man has 5 kids for goodness sakes. We aren't supposed to rejoice when our "enemies" (as they are apparently perceived) get their "due". The appropriate response is to ache over the consequences of sin...especially for those who are completely innocent, and to pray that those who are guilty will repent and be restored to God.

If there is anything more repulsive than someone claiming the name of Christ while subsequently destroying His name by their lifestyle, it's someone claiming the name of Christ who relishes in the consequences of others. We would all do well to remember that our own sins are just as vile as the sin this man is accused of. If anyone is getting a "kick" it should be in the pants for responding in such a flippant, careless way to an event that will likely devastate many many lives.

I agree. But when we look at our Catholic brothers and sisters we should have that same attitude about the rotten eggs which have infected some of their leadership, just as the rotten eggs which have infected some of the Evengelical leadership. It is the same thing, and it is comparable.

HOLD IT!

Will you all PLEASE stop using this event to hurt each other.Goodness sake, the man gave into temptation one day to buy some meth and now the evil plot of one person is threatening to destroy his church, his family, and damage Christendom.

Look at the sadness and sorrow in his face in that one video interview with the lady...he's finding out the hard way that 'be sure your sin will find you out'.

Lets all act like Christians and LOVE each other ok?

Gal 6:1 Brothers, if a man is overtaken in a fault, you the spiritual ones restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you also be tempted.

I don't see anything in there about having a group discussion over denomination scandals or putting each other down.Instead it commands love, compassion, and humility.

This is a sincere question---not sarcasm.

Why do people take the chance of losing family, career, reputation, self-respect...even salvation....for sex????

I honestly don't get it. :th_wave:

It's crazy.

They aren't thinking rationally when they're doing it. They don't believe they'll get caught. Sin is blinding.

You're probably right, billie, 'cause it sure ain't rational. When I think of priests molesting children, and homosexual bishops leading churches and pastors caught in adulterous and homosexual liasons.....it sickens me! And just as bad, the sanctity of marriage is crumbling, and many Christians don't seem to care.

I sure hope we are pleasantly surprised on Tuesday. This is a pivotal time in our culture.

Peace,

F

I understand that; I did see him on the news this evening. I'm just speaking in general.

As someone who has lived around addicts and who literally watched people buy drugs on a daily basis and sell sex a few years ago, I must tell you that people don't buy meth out of curiousity.

They may buy marijuana if they are curious but dealers will give you meth once or twice to get you hooked to the drug. If this dude was buying, chances are he was not a first time customer.

I do not doubt that this guy who is making these allegations is a liar. I seriously doubt that this preacher visited him once a month for 3 years using meth each time and having sex only then. Addicts cannot control themselves that well.

Meth and other drugs will make a straught man do strange things.

I've seen it happen with my own eyes.

There is more to this story than either side is letting on and we need to all be on our knees right now and pray for this man, his accuser, and the pastor's wife and kids and his church.

I am of the belief that the accuser has embellished his story though and that the pastor is not telling all that really happened. (He is probably ashamed though.)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
