I don't know if you have any childern in your household or not, or even if you don't, if you want to see a good movie, me and the wife just got done seeing Charlotte's Web. excellent. No cussing, no nudity, great for everyone Rated G.

I've enjoyed many animated films over the years: Disney's The Three Muskateers (Mickey, Donald & Goofy), Spirit, Sinbad, & the Secret of Nihm to name a few. Meet the Robinsons & Ratoullie look fun.

When I was a youth pastor this question often came up. They were hoping that I would give them ammunition against their parents in this debate. I would tell them that I don't use the ratings to choose a movie. Why let a non-Christian tell me what is or is not appropriate for me or my children to see. I have found some great alternatives, Focus on the Family is often fairly good, and so is MovieGuide magazine. However you still need to make some of your own decisions as well. One of the reviews I read about one movie claimed partial nudity, I asked around and no one who saw the movie knew what I was talking about, so I decided to watch it. The "partial nudity" was there, kind of, there was a shot of someone pulling up her jeans and you caught a glimpse of underwear. If I had not of read the review, I probably would not have noticed.

When it comes to movies it is hard to "set standards" for everyone. It is a matter of personal preference. The Cars movie did not offend me at all, because Lightening McQueen was not trying to be profane, but was trying to describe that he felt like that is where he was. I personally don't like to describe myself as being there, because I never want to go I'm not trying to argue, I know that this really offended some of you, and I don't want to say you are wrong, I just want to point out that there are some different standards that we have that are acceptable. I don't watch anything that is overtly against the principles set by God, and I enjoy movies mentioned here like "Passion" and "Matthew".

I just thought of one other point. I remember a while back I watched a movie about the life of David, and was really enjoying it, when the scene with Bathsheba came up...let's just say they showed what David saw. I was shocked, and have chosen not to watch that movie again, I even made a point of removing it from the church Library. But it made me realize that it is true that just about everything that offends us in movies today is found in the Bible. I don't think it should be viewed as entertainment, but it is there.

The MPAA ratings are basically a joke. There are many R rated movies without sex or gratuitous foul language. There are many so-called PG-13 movies full of bad language, sexual innuendo and bared breasts. There are movies rated PG and G that are completely nihilistic, with anti family, anti Christian and unwholesome lifestyles glorified throughout them. So how in the world can you take those ratings seriously?

The Bible rightly teaches that all things may be lawful for me but not all things are expedient. So I use common sense and discretion when choosing what movie I go see or rent or buy. Being familiar with the director's and producer's bodies of work helps, as well as familiarizing yourself with other movies the writer has been involved with helps in making the decision. The Internet Movie Data Base is a valuable tool in this. Of course, if the movie has piqued your interest and you go to see it and discover you don't like it, just get up and leave. I have done that a few times, the last time was during Happy Feet, which in my estimation was a total waste of film.

Many good Holocaust movies are R-rated, and I think there is a lot of value in viewing some of them.

There are movies I have rented and taken them home and have taken them back after I heard the language in them. There are people in movies I refuse to watch..Tom Cruise, Rosie O'donnel, Sean Penn, Danny Glover, Alex Bladwin. These people I will refuse pay to watch the junk they put out. Not to mention people like Danny Glover and Sean Penn and Alex Baldwin who have trashed this country after it has been so good to them I have also walked out of movies. Then there are the ones I bought after seeing them in the theaters. Seabiscuit, Tombstone, and many others. I gage it by this. If Jesus should come back while I'm watching one of the movies would I be ashamed? Sounds simple but it works for me.

Maybe the more relavant question would have been:

"Does it even matter since everyone sees all this every day of their life anyway?"

anyone with a secular job knows you hear all the same profanity. You hear all the dirty jokes, etc at your workplace, or just walking into the Wal-mart. You can't avoid it anyway unless you go around with earplugs jammed in your ears.

do you people know that when Beaver Cleaver or Oppie says "Gosh" or "darn" or "shucks" its just as much a swear word as any of the words christians freak out over, but nobody ever says anything about it? It may be "nonsense" but Donald Duck does more swearing than some R-rated movie characters. So which is the "bad" part about a word? The word itself? or the fact it was used in a profane manner?

Also, as already mentioned, and acurate movie about the Bible would have to be rated at least R rating because the Bible is one of the most violent and graphic books ever written, and its filled with sex, murder, rape, war, etc.

I'm not saying we should watch porn or nudity, but at the same time, some of this is just ridiculous the way christians can be sometimes.

I think the biggest difference between hearing profanity, at work or at wal-mart is that you don't have a choice. But to take my hard earned money, and on purpose subject myself to this, and to pay these hollywood people to churn out more and more of this stuff, is something that I do have a choice on. I don't subject myself to it, because I know it makes me less sensitive to it. I don't wish to push down the Holy Spirit in me, just for the sake of a movie. I enjoy Ths Spirits direction, and He is smarter than me. These movies are just one of the scarifices, I and the wife make to try and stay sensitive to the Holy spirit.

We are told not to even speak of the things done by those in darkness, Eph 5:12 so it would be wise to think thhat watching evil would be just as shamful.

New here, and first post for me, but movies have been problematic for me for years. I was a long-time member of a church that told us we could not attend theaters, then several years ago, I learned that the assistant pastor in that church was showing R-rated movies to the church teens, including my two and my husband's two. I had a royal cow and said they could not go to his home. Of course, I was told I was overreacting, but I most certainly was not. However, over time, I learned that was just the tip of the iceberg.

For myself, I have been very adament about what was going to be on our TVs and what would not. I had to be with teens then and now that they are all grown with families of their own, even with just the two of us. It pains me to admit that I have had to put my foot down several times over this issue, and many prayers have been prayed as well as words exchanged over this and the Internet.

As far as movies, I did not vote for reasons I will not go into, but we rarely go to movies because it is so difficult to find a decent movie. I wish it were not.

I'm always confused when people say that movies should be made without bad language or sexual content or violence or general "immorality." While I agree that gratuitous excesses of these are common (particularly violence), especially from Hollywood (i.e. why I'm an indie fan), film, and art in general, is supposed to say something about life, and life is certainly not devoid of language, violence, or sexuality.
