Sometimes I wonder if it really ever was like that on all points...or if we've simply romanticized "the good ol' days" to the point where we forget that there were still abusive husbands and fathers who would get drunk, beat their wives and their children, then get up and go to church on Sundays (because everyone did), except, of course, because divorce was unthinkable and everyone was so obedient that the women and children rarely (if ever) had a way out...or that there were still girls having shotgun weddings, almost literally (that saying originated somewhere, didn't it?), or that lots of those "men" who went and fought in the army were actually boys who lied about their age so they could run away from a bad home life or just live up to their "better" older brothers.

*sigh* but I guess the grass is always greener...

But there was a whole lot less!

Maybe...we can't really know for sure. I think today everything like that is more visible, because fewer things are "taboo" compared to then, and because we have a wide range of media with fewer restrictions, and an ease of access to that media in general. In those times, a drinking problem would have only been known by whispers, pre-marital and extra-marital sex were never talked about, people put on a good show of Christianity because if they didn't, they'd be ostracized. Besides, there were other things then that we now consider wrong that were considered good back then. Racism, for instance. It's still around, but now it's only celebrated by groups (like the KKK) that are hated by most of the Western world.

Human nature hasn't changed a whit over the centuries...it's our awareness of certain things, and the prevelance of certain kinds of sin that fluxuates.

Thanks, PBob, I remember those days...and the days when Sin did not seem as rampant as it is today. When i was a kid, we left doors unlocked and children played with other children in the neighborhood, neighbors knew neighbors. May we get back to the day where God is first, Family second, and others third.

I moved to the country a few years ago - to pastor a small church. I was raised in Vermont before it became so messed up by those flat landers who came up after Woodstock  There were a lot of dairy farms and hard work - no video games or "My Space". My mom encouraged me to go outside and play... Dad and I actually went hunting and fishing and working together - had my first job working for a cattle dealer at about 10 or 11..also I walked to school barefooted - uphill both ways - and ate lard sandwiches. :emot-hug: In any case from a young boy work, play, respect, honestly, were expected and enforced.

Recently where I now live we are being advised to be on the alert for "gangs" that are moving into the area, etc. I guess the only thing left to do is join the NRA :taped: - bottom line society used to work with parents to raise children - now - if a child is disciplined in school a law suit is threatened. For a few months I taught (not long ago) science in a christian HS to help out. Boy did I have my eyes opened! One day I grabbed two your men around the neck (with reasonable force) to get their attention - these guys were totally disruptive, etc - in any case within a week or so all of the parents of all of the kids in the entire school (only had 14 students) arrived at a School Board Meeting (I was on the board) and we listened as I along with other teachers were "cut up" for touching and abusing these kids. I resigned shortly after that ..... MY point - our society seems to be coming to a point where the postmodern idea of "there is no right or wrong and there is no absolute truth" is believed by many. Whatever happened to God first , spouse second, children third, family , countryand then whatever as well as yes Mam or Yes sir.... PRAY,PRAY,PRAY!!!!!!!

I feel strongly that if we contiune in this direction much longer, if Christains don't begin to be light and salt, if we don't warn them (Ezekiel 33)' if we don't repent - this nation is going to be disciplined by the Lord in a way that will make Sodom and Gammorah (sp) look like practice! Their Blood could be upon us! Wake-up Body of Christ - WE ARE IT - IF NOT ME WHO, IF NOT NOW WHEN???

Am I alone in the way I feel? In my Spirit I am so sure that the wrath of God is just on the horizon...

What do the rest of you think - Have I gone off the deep end??????

I've decided to post this here as well as add it as a new topic in General Discussion "IF NOT ME WHO, IF NOT NOW WHEN???"

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. Jeremiah 13:23

I don't know that man has gotten any worse, perhaps the sins that used to be committed in private are now exposed for all to see.

Exposed for all to see by a media that is motivated to show the absolute worst in mankind with flashing bulbs, TV cameras, etc. These things are glorified rather than put in the proper perspective..which in God's eyes is still SIN!

I agree that the heart of man hasn't changed as in "The heart is deceitful before all things and desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9) but I think society has definitely deteriorated and we are living in the times as mentioned in Isaiah in chapter 5:20 "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness". There is a definite fudging of absolutes such as right and wrong.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
