I would like to hear your comments about being perfect using the bible, rather than our opinions..

But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Kind of a tall order, eh? :rolleyes:

No, I do not believe that anyone could honestly be perfect. It just couldn't happen.

I would like to hear your comments about being perfect using the bible, rather than our opinions..

it's intresting because Jesus has that troubling line in Matthew 7 "be perfect therefore as your father in heaven is perfect". People seem to have claimed this to be bad translation or say that Luke's version is more accurate "be merciful therefore as your father in heaven in merciful". However..... I think these excuses come when they don't like the nature of the passage. "be perfect Jesus??? Thats some high expecations... I mean I'd feel better if you said 'be as good as you can'". However after some of my own reflections [and prayer] i came to relize that the nature of the passage is trust and faith. the goal is perfection... we can't do that on our own and thats good. It keeps us in constant touch of our limitations and therefore humble enough to admit our need for God.

nope, perfection isn't for human beings. Besides, in order to be "perfect", everyone would have to agree that you were perfect... and THAT is almost a more difficult task than being perfect in the first place!

Here are a couple of verses and there are a lot more -

1Jo 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Being sinless - Should be the aim of Christians knowing that we won't attain it but not using it as an excuse to sin.

Hi there everyone,

I am happy to see that you took the time to look up the word perfect. I just want to add on what you have come up with for your edification. Now that we know that we need to be perfect, the question is HOW do we become perfect?

The word perfect is used 99 times in the bible, and I use the blueletterbible.org to do word studies which is very easy to use. We can only go into the Scriptures to find answers so that we would be edified by the word of God, rather than our opinions. The verse that was used in question Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

That word perfect is strongs # 5046 which means brought to it

1 John 1:8-10 (written to Christian believers) - If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

      You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose.       You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
