It reminds me of something I heard long ago.....namely, that when Jews celebrate a feast, they don't so much "remember" an event of the past, as bring it into the now and re-create it on a spiritual level. (Maybe our Jewish brethren can help me here?)So, maybe, when we celebrate the Lord's Supper, we really are sitting at the table with Him---in the Jewish sense.

Shalom Fiosh,

I am not a "brethren", but a sistren  , will that do??

Seriously, I believe what you are referring to is the fact that the time Jesus instituted the taking of His body and His blood was during a Passover seder. This was a very special time, commanded in the Scriptures to remember the exodus and salvation of the Jewish people by the Hand of G-d. Please read Israel's Redemption from Egypt (Exodus 1:1-18:27)

And read how G-d instituted the Passover to remember His deliverance:

Exodus 12

I also encourage you to read this info on the Passover and how it relates to Jesus, the Passover Lamb and the taking of what we call "Communion" today.

The thing is, as we read the Bible, we need to understand it in its CONTEXT. We need to separate man's tradition with what the Bible actually says.

In the case of the L-rd's Table, it is imperative that we understand that Jesus and His disciples were in the middle of the Passover seder commanded by G-d to observe every year. The Passover required that each family take a perfect, unblemished lamb to kill and eat to remember how G-d delivered the Israelites as recorded in Exodus.

I've always found it interesting that, though it is a Passover meal, there is no mention of a lamb at the Last Supper.

Peace,

The Lamb was at the Last Supper. . .

Frequently there were 2 sacrifices during the feasts of Passover. One lamb is the Passover Lamb and the other lamb is called the haggigah or peace offering.

These sacrifices are referred to in Duet. 16:2 where God required that the sacrifice be from both the flock and the herd.

The haggigah was offered in addition to the Passover lamb. The passover lamb was required but the haggigah was not because it was a free will offering.

During the time of Yeshua/Jesus in order to have a Seder you needed to register at a rabbinical court in the temple, have at least 10, not more than 20 people. Each group of pilgrims who came to Jerusalem had one representative carrying a lamb without spot or blemish and an assembly of at least 10 people were required to participate in the ceremony.

Each group entered the temple with their lamb and were instructed "You must slay the lamb, not the priest." The priest caught the blood and ministered the blood according to scripture.

Those who could not come to Jerusalem to keep the Passover but still wanted to keep the meal would have to have a substitute for the passover lamb. That was the shankbone of a lamb or in the hebrew known as zeroah or arm. Jesus was referred to as the arm of the Lord in Is. 53:1 The shankbone is a remembrence of the lamb that was slain.

The passover requirement is that one must eat until one is full and the entire lamb must be consumed before midnight on the 15th of Nisan. You can have a seder without a Passover lamb, but you cannot have a lamb without a seder.

Jesus was the Passover lamb of God, He had to come to Jerusalem from Bethany not only to be the Passover lamb but also for the seder.

In Mark 14:12 "And the 1st day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover..." The word translated as first is the Greek word protos, meaning "before, earlier and preceeding.

And because there was a temple in Jerusalem in Jesus's day the 1st Seder would be on the 14th of Nisan and the 2nd Seder on the 15th of Nisan. The Seder could be held either night.

Jesus had His passover seder by midnight on the 14th of Nisan (which the 14th of Nisan begins at sundown, which is roughly 6 hours prior to midnight) Jesus was crucified the next afternoon at 3 p.m. which is still the 14th of Nisan.

The high priest kills the Passover lamb for the Nation of Israel at 3 p.m. on the 14th of Nisan. At sundown, the 15th begins so Jesus would have to eat His Passsover lamb by midnight of the 14th of Nisan, which is prior to the time the high priest kills the Passover lamb for the entire Nation.

To further prove this, we read in John 18:28 when Jesus was brought before Pilate, Ciaphas the high Priest would not enetr the judgment hall of the Gentile ruler because he would be defiled and couldn't eat the Passover lamb.

So this event must have taken place on the morning of the 14th of Nisan because the High priest had not yet eaten the Passover.

If he was defiled, he would have been defiled for 1 day. Since Jesus had already eaten the Passover by the time He was siezed and taken before Caiaphas and Pilate, He had to have eaten the Passover with His disciples on the eve. of the 14th.

So we can see how Jesus ate a Passover meal and could still fulfill being the Passover Lamb of God being killed at 3 p.m. on the 14th of Nisan.

As customary, On the 10th of Nisan the high priest marched out of the city of Jerusalem to Bethany where a lamb was to be slain. The lamb was led back into the city thru the streets lined with thousands of pilgrims singing Hallel (Psalms 113-118).

The liturgy for Hoshanah Rabbah says that the Messiah will come to the Mount of Olives and weep over the city. this happened in Luke 19:41. The people also waved palm branches as Jesus rode into the city on a donkey in fullfillment of Zech. 9:9.

Today Nisan 10 is known as Palm Sunday in the non-Jewish community.

The lamb that was to be slain by the high priest was led into the temple and put on display. So Jesus also went went on public display when He entered the temple and spent 4 days there among the scribes, Pharisees and saducees. Jesus was questioned for 4 days, showing Himself to be without spot or blemish fulfilling Ex. 12:5

On the 14th of Nisan at the 3rd hour of the day the high priest took a lamb, ascended the alter, tied the lamb in place on the alter. At that same time Jesus was nailed to to the tree/cross.

At the time of the eve. sacrifice (3p.m.) for Passover, the high priest ascended the alter, cut the throat of the lamb with a knife and said these words"It is finished."

These are the exact words said by Jesus just before He died on the cross.

Jesus sent some of His disciples to prepare the Passover meal. They would have done so just as they had done and rehearsed for years. It would have included a lamb. But the Passover Lamb sacrificed for the NATION of Israel was killed by Caiaphas after the passover meal that Jesus and His disciples ate. It was offered up at the same time Jesus was offered up.

I grew up with communion in my church on a weekly basis. I have since changed churches for reason I will not go into to since thats not what this thread is about. However, I noticed as soon as I changed and went to other churches not all churches celebrated commuion on a weekly basis. I miss that. Some churches celebrate once a month, or once a quarter, or only on special occasions. I did not fully understand the meaning of commuion until I grew up.

For one example of what it means to me is the story of the man who invites people to his party and they make excuses not to come. When these people refuse the master of the party tells his servants to invite any one who wants to come to his banquet table. No matter how unworthy I may be I'm invited to the banquet table of forgiveness and can start my life fresh and new again and find a closer relationship with my master Jesus Christ.

There is a childrens song that helps me to focus on this maybe some of you have heard of it

"His Banner of Us is Love"

He in invites us into his banqueting table

His banner over us is love

there is more to the song but that is the verse that sticks out.

I really like communion when people give personal testimony instead of reading the same generic scripture over and over again about communion. Although it is important scripture when its read week after week it looses its meaning sometimes.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
