I agree completely with your post, bhakthi.

As a young man (and a young Christian), I used to dream of laying down my life for Christ, in unselfish sacrifice for Him.

As I get older, I find myself facing the prospect of death becoming more and more realistic. In fact, I think about it almost every day, and it doesn't seem so 'glorious' anymore.

Still, I'd rather die for Christ than against Him, and with Him, than without Him.

It is better to be beheaded like Paul and go to heaven than to deny Him and stay here on earth if the situation happened. Would I be terrified? Yes, but also no.

Therefore Jesus was not talking about martyrdom, but of losing one's love of the wolrd and of his livlihood - his manner of living - for the sake of the Lord.
