One Christian told me that generational Christians are more Jesuslike than new Christians who come from a nonChristian background. I suspect there is something wrong with her theology here.

Is there any truth in what she is saying?

All Christians comes from a non Christian background....at one point we were all lost without Christ. Its each persons choice of whether to follow what the Holy Spirit leads us to do. Only then are we Christ like, after all thats what Jesus did and asks of us.

there is no such thing as a "generational" christian. being raised in a christian family does not guarantee you salvation, nor does it prevent you from being rebellious. just look at the stereotypical "PK" (preacher's kid).

there are some benefits to having come from a christian home, without a doubt. you have a more ingrained knowledge of many things rather than having to learn them from scratch, because you've been taught from day one about God, and Jesus, about biblical principals and so on.

but our standing with God has nothing to do with our family history. we ALL have to come to the cross on our own, and we all have to make the choice to live each day for Christ. i've met a lot of "new christians" who behaved more Christ-like than those who have grown up with christianity. "new christians" often have a hunger and thirst for God that others have grown complacent with.

I'm trying to find the scripture that says that because we are washed by the blood of the Lamb, we are seen by the Father to be as Holy as Christ.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I think it's very relevant to this question.

This all began because I seeked her professional advice about how to help my daughter(I wasn't seeking spiritual advice). That is when it came out that she believed our family was having some serious attacks because we do have occultic influences in the past in our family(black magic etc...) and demons were still needed to be shaken off us which people from Christian backgrounds especially those who go back several generations don't get (apparently)

My daughter has been through alot, and the advice I was seeking was how to manage a child with suicidal tendencies. School was also very concerned and keeping a close eye on her there. I had found suicide letters at home and things weren't good.

Praise the Lord though cause once I shared some of this with other Christian Friends they prayed for her and she is a lot better now.

It was just some things this lady said stuck with me. It certainly didn't comfort me.

Mar 2:21 No man puts a bit of new cloth on an old coat: or the new, by pulling away from the old, makes a worse hole.

Mar 2:22 And no man puts new wine into old wine-skins: or the skins will be burst by the wine, and the wine and the skins will be wasted: but new wine has to be put into new wine-skins.
