CD Burner down and out??

I was thinking now, the cd rom should be a slave drive and the burner a master, how can I check if the cr rom is installed the right way as slave drive?

LG is the name of a company that makes computer components but a reader is the cd drive. The reason it's a reader is that that's all it does is read data, it can't write, it's not a cd writer. To check if it is a master or slave you have to look at the jumper on the back of the cd drive. There are 2 rows of metal pins and the jumper is just a plastic looking piece with metal inside that bridges two of the pins. Usually it is written or stamped on the drive how to configure the jumper for master or slave. It doesn't really matter which is the master or slave. If the cd drive is installed, you can also check the bios post screen to see if it is a master or slave. When the computer first starts and detects the drives, press "pause break" and that will freeze the screen so you can check what it has detected and whether it is a master or slave. If it isn't detected, that probably means the jumper is set wrong or the bios is set incorrectly.

I fiddle a bit with computers. I have built a few and it seems that I am endlessly helping friends with theirs. I guess I'm a little better than a novice, but there is really so much to know about computers, it's mind boggling. :tongue:

Well, Nero is good, but I use Easy CD Creator, just because I find it easy to use, but it is a little heavy resource and disk size wise, and a little buggy. I just got used to using that one. I haven't really checked out all the burning programs out there but there are probably some other pretty good ones. Nero is pretty popular. By the way Tyler, it seems that Hotburn is still being sold by a company named Iomega. I think they bought out Asimware Innovations Inc. I've been hearing about a burner program called Alcohol which is supposed to be good for making backups and has some pretty cool features. You can download a trial HERE!

Thanks a plenty I.S.!! However I bit the bullet and went out and spent 50 prunes for Pinnacle Instant Copy Software...Deep burner didn't work for me,(of course)!

So I'm back in buisness, I have old Cd's that I don't like to carry in my vehicle, if I wreck a burnt Cd who cares then??

I have problems reinstalling my cd recording software it does not install it right.

I never heard that it can go out of date? I have roxio 5.1 direct cd 5.10

Should I maybe try to install some of the ones mentioned above?
