And prophecy that will lead many to the word of God, because the spiritual gift is given by the Father.

1Cr 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying [serveth] not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Blessings,

Okay...thank you for your replies...they are helpful to my understanding the topic.

If I may progress the issue ... Assuming that a person believes that God may be using him/her to prophesy, how does one KNOW it is God? How does one KNOW for certain that they are not just having visions of grandeur, or are hoping to be used of God in a special way?

I can see the appeal of being used by God in that way...it implies that a person has a 'special' communication with God. As such, I think many people misuse prophecy because of that. On the other hand, a person may be inclined to keep "things" to themselves because they are not sure, and don't want to appear stupid. Does that make sense?

You test the prophecy to the word. A prophecy is NEVER going to contradict the word of God. And it will be confirmed in two or three witnesses. The first prophecy that I made known publicy to anyone was that the Lord was going to give me a little girl (before i got pregnant, and when doctor told me it was impossible). Now you might say that that was just for me, but in sharing how the Lord released me from the fear of having a daughter and treating her like my mom did me, it blessed others to be released from the same fear, and yet it also blessed others to pray and seek God for a child for themselves and since many have concieved and bore children that thought they never could. It also encouraged others to seek God's voice in their own prayer life.

The Lord showed me my husband was going to go down a dangerous path (and we would have to seperate)if he took a certain job. He took that warning with a grain of salt, and when he did go down the wrong path, and committed adultery, the Lord showed it to me in a dream. Needless to say we were seperated for four months, and now when there is a big decision to make, my husband respects me and will not make a decision until I cover it in prayer and get a release from the HOLY Spirit. Although he is not currently a believer, he beleives Jesus is real, and believes in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

You axman have a special communication with God as well. In one other post, someone made the statement of a woman that was always typing out long prophecies, and giving them to other people. I think these people so want to propehcy that they conjure it in their head, instead of recieving it in their spirit by GOD.

Concerning your last statement in regards to those that are afraid, that is the case with most people and it is a test of faith. In my church, I am seen as a young mother with a non-believing husband. I teach the children, but esteem myself lower than others. One time in prayer for my brother and his anger the Lord gave me a vision, and then showed me it had to do with sexual fornication. I began to write it down and the Lord's interpretation of it, and I kept it to myself, thinking it was just the Lord prompting me to pray for those in sexual bondage. Then the next morning a neighbor called me and was telling me very personal things about her hubby. He was in sexual bondage, and she was a wayward christian not interested in the gifts of the spirit, but the lord prompted me to tell her of my vision and ask her if I could pray for her. She recieved it, and was elated that I would pray for her. Now she is attending church, and she and her children were baptised togehter. The next sunday, I caught a glimpse of a deacon in our church. I had this huge feeling he was into some form of sexual bondage. I let it go, prayed for the guy and thought nothing of it. then in worship the vison kept coming to me, and the first part of the vision I had written in words came up over and over. right after worship, the Lord led me to ask the pastor if I could address the congregation. The only thing I had was the first part of that vision. So I shared "we have dragons in our lives that want to pour fire on our lives and walk with GOd, the lord is saying lift your head up to the Lord, let his healing waters quench the fire. " Now nothing was mentioned about sexual fornication, but then my pastor came to the mike to preach, and he prayed and said that yes the Lord was saying that to the congregation. His sermon was on letting go of the idols in our lives and admitting that we could not have victory unless we gave the Lord power to do so. He touched on pornography and other things. that sunday night, the deacon I mentioned earlier shared a testiomoney of how he had turned to things like porn every now and then, and was convicted that he had allowed a dragon in his life to reak havoc on his walk , and marriage. Wow. Then shortly after that, he and his wife found out they were pregnant when they had been told it was impossible.

That was one time I was afraid to share, but knew that I had to trust God and be obediant. We are not to cover our candle. We are to share it with the world.

we are earthly vessels, and have to realize that the message comes through that earthen vessel. we might get nervous and babble for a moment, but if it is from God, then it will be confirmed it is so. Then if it was flesh, we should be humble enought to recieve rebuke from it, and go to the Lord about it.

The same way you can discern between a spiritually enlightening dream, and a terrible nightmare. Even though this world tends to be both. We look to the Spirit for comfort. We being creatures of God, given rememberance of our original foundations, wait for the total clearing of our minds from sorrow, and pain. But until then, our spiritual warfare wages on.

every believer should prophesy - which means to tell the good news of the gospel b/c the testimony of Christ Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Rev 19:10), etc.

Amen!

Speaking about the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is prophecy for the future. ;)

F8thNJesus: Thank you so much for sharing that. It sounds like a true example of the Corinthians letter prophesy purpose.

This post has been very encouraging to me because I find that prophesy as foretelling on a national or global level is very disturbing as it is surrounded by so much controversy. I believe it can cause strife in the body + we have enough spirits to test without having to be worried about testing those who are our own. (If any of that makes sense :24: ) Anyway, thanks again.

Tongues and Prophecy

1 Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives
