What will it take the leaders of New Orleans Louisiana to Realize?

A true revival is needed in the US today. Don't think there is much doubt about that.

After Katrina, the whole world got a look at what the country has become. I realize there were a lot of good people, probably many believers who were hurt, lost everything, or died from the storm and I'm not belittling them.

Remember in the days after the storm with all the looting, violence, disorder, and the gov't just plain doing nothing about it all? Once the Feds showed up, things calmed down a bit, but think of this. All that mess was caused by people. Katrina did its damage and left, but the world got a real good look at Americans when they don't have all their "stuff." This is the "great society" that we christians allowed the liberals to build with our silence in years past.

Cajunboy::::In agreement Walla, but you know we have no excuse here for allowing all the illegal political corruption here. Many here thought that by selecting who they thought would advance them in the city, would remember its' people, but that is never the case. Once they got their votes, and the city was "raped" of its finances and finally the government realized it was wasting good monies after bad...all ceased. It's not by accident or selfishness that the Federal Govt. has ceased or slowed its monies coming in. And , you know , if you're willing to work hard here, one can accomplish much and succeed.

This should not be a "collecting" grounds for mostly poverty level peoples and family. I know a many a blacks ,whites and mixed who are very hard workers. But I also know many who are sitting back on the Governments' beaurocratic leg and stagnating the city and state. We need our own monies to operate this city......not yours! And not everyone elses' ! If we can't learn to function on our own,,,,shame on us!

Christians do their best by praying and living a life that has moral and spiritual value. We are not the overlords, but we are called to serve and bear witness to the gift of God in the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In the midst of the darkness of sin, you are to shine as living testaments, known and read of all men. Don't absorb the liberal idea of group blame, as though we should feel guilty that someone sells drugs on the corner but we personally have not confronted the drug dealer. Obey God, do what He tells you to do, and leave the rest to Him to settle and deal with in the proper time and manner He chooses.

I do however, understand when you say, "We are not the overlords" But we, in the afore-mentioned posts are saying that "Our representatives of Government , even on a Mayor's level should have been made to produce a "PLAN" many months prior to the storm; to show an exact step by step progression of events on how to prepare the city and its people for such an event. You only would have had to walk through the deep waters of Hurricane Betsy to know that all these things had to be Pre-planned years in advance. You and I would not have had to invest so much money in taxes and aid for several people's incompentency had they known what they were doing. Millions and millions of dollars could have been saved and many more lives if the peole in authority would have said , for instance "begin driving all the buses, school and transit to higher ground NOW! Take them to a local transit authority in the vacinity where you want to head and drop off the keys and call in when you arrive there......same with school buses. We paid many salaries down here for people to sit patiently and wait for clearance when we could have done a lot more! That's another reason we're seeing management and owners of "aged homes" being sued for their irresponsibility in some cases. You will see the likes and the truth of a person's success in office very soon for the Lousisana Govt chair with the upcoming election. Notice, who does NOT get the High Chair! It's not back accident an people are paying attention this time. This is not just a "Chocolate City." This should be God's city with all God's people working together, and not just trying to rape the city (ie. drugs, adultery, homosexuality, crime, theft, booze, ) and the like of what others think they can make a dime off of. It's not by accident we are known to the world as "Sin City II"

Cajunboy::::Ironical that you should say "Revival" Walla, as a Preacher by the name of Sharon Irbee (spelling?) has a huge one scheduled in mid-September. It shows promising crowds thus far.....But her goal is to remove the prostitutes off the streets and homosexuality and voodoo and so on. And I dare say that It might be better for God to merely destroy the city and begin all over possibly in another area nearby. As these sins seem to have taken a stronghold in the city/state, along with poverty. Yes, you heard right, as I believe even much of the "poverty" here could be avoided and you can blame the Federal Govt. as much as the people who prey on it! There is a lucrative business going on under the foundation of Government in Louisiana, and the powers that be, depend greatly on the ignorance and less educated for votes and support. Who else would sit back and depend on government support and be making $60,000 under the table in a "govt. subsidized housing facility? Or raising children, for a mere social security number to claim support and the added $3000.00 for income tax purposes? Talk about "organized crime! I personally knew of a "man" who held a long list of such social security numbers, and received a substantial "cut" of the monies mothers collected from the Government, years ago. Needless to say, that "man" is no longer in business!

After viewing the local news here in New Orleans, La, something I normally hate to do with all the violence at an alarming rate, One of our Business Leaders apparently is not accepting God's views on "worshipping the Occult." A very successful businessman in New Orleans, decided to produce, dispite all that we've been through, yet another form of "Parade" celebration. He has plans for the year 2008 to have another version of "Mardi Gras" during our next "Halloween" season, as if there really was a "halloween season!" So now, even more than before, this man will challange the will of God again here in New Orleans, commonly known as "Sin City ll"

Give your views on if you think God is trying to send a message to the local leadership, with the sudden downfall of several of our leaders for various reasons, or if you think all is "a matter of bad luck." You might want to include "celebration of Halloween, and Mardi Gras" in with your views?

this isn't a "new orleans" problem. It is an american one.

It will take a revival across the entire nation before any one city will be changed that dramatically, imo

I think is is time to pull the troops out of Iraq and send them to N.O. and declare marshal law..... aobut a hundred and a half so far this year......

this does not include the other crimes..... but then again, this goes hand in hand with other sins... gambling, prostitution, drugs, so forth and so on..... greed and lust and what makes me feel good.....

I only pray they have the eyes to their souls opened so that the Holy SPirit will be welcomed in....

So glad that you take interest enough to even know the statistics down here. We normally average about one killing per day per year! 94 Per Cent of it is drug related....Although we have had many more since Katrina with not quite 2/3 the amount of people...Although I think the stats are even lower than that. Many more have moved here down south of New Orleans about 20 miles away from the city and toward the Capital of Baton Rouge and North a bit. But I do understand what the above poster is trying to convey when she says this is a world wide problem and sin is not just dedicated to one locality....

The revival meets are a great start, Cajunboy. I pray that there will be enough people who are ready to hear the gospel and really repent and turn to God. Maybe it might be the start of a national revival -- we could sure use one.

I spent 7 years in Alexandria / Pineville while stationed at England AFB, and I got very familiar with the "art form" that is political corruption in Louisiana. Several business people I respected suggested how I could "get by" while getting my business license, etc. Basically, going around the system was the system.

I wonder, though, if Katrina would have gone ashore an trashed another city, would the results be the same? I mean the current chaos in N.O.
