I believe that a woman should not cut her hair. I also believe in head coverings for females. Recently the Lord has begun to convict me on just that. :exclaimation:

I already had desert from another Thread thanx any way.

Back to the topic.

I have done some research on head coverings and I though I would share. I know that at first I struggled with it so maybe I can help someone else.

If you read through the whole passage the word cover is used quite frequently. The Greek translation for all these words (apart from vs 15) is to hide, conceal and can potentially mean anything, not a material covering. (i.e. Hair) It is from the Greek word kalapto. If you then replace these words with hair it makes a lot more sense. Verse 15 however actually means a material covering and is correctly translated as:

15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her instead of a material covering. The word for covering her is peribolaion=material covering.

Then in verse 16 the correct translation is

16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no such practice- nore do the churches of God.

Such is from the Greek word toiauthn. It is no translated as other.

So if you read through this all again it will make sense. Head coverings or long hair was a cultural thing for the Corinthians as the women who wore short hair were prostitutes and where showing so by cutting their hair short. However it no longer applies to us as vs 16 says

I believe these verses are speaking about how a person carried themselves in the culture in Corinth and is telling us to carry ourselves is such a way that shows we are christian. In corinth it was prostitutes who had short hair and if you had short hair as a woman you would be seen as such. In many western cultures today it is not prostitutes that have short hair and no one sees short hair as a lack of christian witness, that is more portrayed with clothers these days and actions and even that is changing.

I think yes if you are convicted to do so then do not cut your hair and if God convicts you to wear a headcovering do so.

I have short hair and in no way try to take the mans role. My husband is my head of this house and I submit to him, we discuss but ultimatly he makes the desicions. It is purely a choice I have made due to a lack of time to be able to take care of my hair and with a house hold full of children and work it is easier for me to manage. No disrespecting God, I pray, I worship, I attend church, I have a very real and personal relationship with God.

I do not do these things because I have never been convicted to do so.

But I too ask the question of length of hair.

Oh and please back up the length with scripture LOL

Post and run or not. This is a good question imo. I've wondered why women don't cover their head in church.

That's where I stand on the issue...

Okay. years ago before the penecostal churches started to crop up all the place ladies who went to church in the mainline churches covered their heads even if it were only a scarf, including my mother and sister, and not out of tradition, but out of obedience. I have seen ladies who maybe decided to attend church at the last minute take a hankerchief from their pocket to cover their head. Now I can remember that as a kid in the thirties. Now I say this because, when I became saved some forty or so years later, I was surprised that none of the ladies were wearing any head covering and being new in the Lord didn't like to question it. So now further down the track and after avidly reading the word, I agree the the ones who say it is an act of obedience for a lady to cover her head at any meeting where the presence of the Holy Spirit is in attendance and that includes home groups.

I will probably be shot down in flames for taking that stance, but that's what it states in the bible and believe God's word above evryone elses.

I mean who would want to take the chance of being disobient just for the sake of some sort head covering, unless it's more important to show off your expensive new coiffure.

Hey have a great day in the Lord.

Can I start on a tangent here and say Eric you have a young spirit. Funny that when you speak to someone here you get this kind of picture of them and how old they might be and so forth. I imagined you about 30-40. Hope that has made your day. You really come across with youthfulness, wise but youthful. :D :D

Ok you made me think Eric. See I became a christian a little over 15 years ago and women did not wear head coverings at all and my parents didn't go to church. The only hats or head coverings I remember being worn were Salvo bonnetts by my grand mother and I always just saw that as part of uniform, I don't know if it came about by scripture or just part of the uniform. When I actually started at church I was the only one wearing a hat and I wore that everywhere as a statedment of ME LOL. It was one of those black gangster type hats everyone wore in the 80s. :D

I find this topic very interesting I don't not wear a hat or some type of covering to be disobedient at all or because I am too embarresed to in fact I didn't even think about it, it's not taught about and has never been an issue in all the churches I have been a member of or visited.

Hi GymRose, that is what I was getting at. It wasn't until the pentecostal/charismatic type churches arrived on the scene so rapidly that the non wearing of hats became apparent, and now it's the same p/c assemblies are squabbling about it the most, while the staunch old mainstream ladies wouldn't dream of going to church without some kind of head covering. Times might change but the word of God never changes. So I'll stick with the word and if I ever start going to church again, I'll ask my wife to wear a hat or something.

catc ya later. :P

eric.

p.s. Thanks for the cmpliment, but I feel as youg as 40

Personally, I don't see what the big controversy is, as the Scriptures seem clear about headcoverings. What in the world is so offensive about the beauty of a woman obeying her God in this? Is this another one of those "submissive is a bad word" things??? :P:blink:

I wish more churches practiced this obedience today, including mine.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
