Should Children watch "the Passion"???

Actually, I'd like to clarify something.

When I think about the aspects of the film that make it worth its R-rating, I realize that the worst part of it all was not seeing blood and ripped skin (you know how many times I looked into my own ripped skin? OK, maybe not as deep, but maybe you get the idea?). The worst part about it was knowing whom the actor was representing to whom these things had actually been done. That's what made it the most horrific.

The tricky part of the movie, as far as children go - at least the under 12 crowd - is that the movie often flashes back to past events and the spiritual realm is a few times transferred into the physical realm (ie. when Judas was tormented by demons, or when Satan appears). It may be harder for them to understand these things, even if they can handle the images. 10-11 may be iffy, but 12 and above, at least, I think would be OK. But that is between parent and child, I think.

And again, if a certain scene does get too intense, you can always close your eyes for the period.

My husband and I first thought we would take our 9 and 12 year old to see the movie. After reading what Nebula posted (by the way, thank you Neb!), and AFTER seeing it for ourselves. I am very glad we did not! There are some things that are visually too great for a child to carry, this was one of them. BUT, we most definitely want them to see this, but at an age when they are strong enough mentally to take it in. I am STILL REELING, by it. It was an amazingly stunning movie, and I am still in awe of what I saw. I read the Scriptures with a refreshed perception of the SACRIFICE that was made for me.
