I'm just curious...

What was your view of God as a child? Was he most like a judge? A grandfather? A school principal? What?

Now that you're older, how do you view him? Has He become friendlier over the years? More stern? Or about the same?

I figured he was just like my grandfather only with a long beard and a robe, now I don't know I really try to picture him, but he is still like my grandfather......... :24:

As a kid I imagined a bright light when I thought of God. Sometimes I would imagine giant hands. So big that I could stand in the middle of them. When my uncle died I imagined God bringing down his big hands and lifting him up into Heaven. When God buried Moses, I imagined God picking Moses up with one hand, and digging a grave with one swipe in the dirt with the other. I never questioned the Lord as a child, and I never once blamed or got angry at him for anything. Sadly, now that I am older I have done such things as this. But, I still know he is a God os love and mercy.

My own view was the grandfather one...until I stopped believing in him altogether in favor of an atheistic evolutionary worldview. When I realized my folly in high school, and returned to believing in God, my view morphed into the stern judge. A God who sat on the edge of his throne just WAITING to catch my slip-ups, and thunder down judgement. I suppose it was because of the guilt I felt by rejecting him at one point in my life.

Now, he is a daddy that loves me. Who protects and guides me. One who is slow to anger, and quick to forgive. Who bestows to me mercy and grace when I don't deserve it. The one to whom I can run to who will make it all better. :24:

I don't remember how I viewed God as a child. However, for the longest time in my teen and adult years, I saw God the same way I saw my dad: emotionally distant until I messed up, as which point He rams his fist of judgement on me to make me pay. In my teen years, I've even visualized that God would be pleased with me if a pair of angels would literally beat the stubborness and disobediance out of me (note: my dad never physically beat me). Nowadays, I'm starting to get a more accurate view of Him, being merciful but still want me to live a life of rightousness (which He's helping me to do). He even wants to bless me and give me the desires of my heart (as long as they're in His will and timing).

I've heard that a child's first view of God is based on his/her dad. I pray that, when I become a dad, I would do my best to give my kids a good view of God.

I thought God was a member of a God Club, with each God having his own world and responsibilities. Of course, ours was the head God. I was never taught this; I was just a strange little kid. Oh.....I know better now! :emot-hug:

That is so cute! :emot-hug:

If you would have told me that when I was a child, it would have made perfect sense to me! :)

Never really thought much about God as a kid. Maybe a couple times I would wonder what force or power was holding the stars up there in the sky.

After getting married, and attending church with my wife, I became a believer in Jesus as the Savior who was sent by God.

After accepting Jesus as my Savior and being born again, my understanding of God improved dramatically. Today He is my best Friend. He is my Protector, my Counselor, my Helper, my Lord and King, my Master who I call my Father, and sometimes Dad in private. It causes me to smile a lot calling Him Dad when talking with Him in private. In this life I live today, it just doesn't get any better knowing He has adopted me into His family....not until that day He comes for me and takes me home. What a glorious day that will be when I see Him face to Face. At that event He will even reveal to me how He kept those stars up there in the sky that I wondered about as a kid. (:<)

God bless,

Jack

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
