Ha well that goes without saying! Unfortunately his work duties pulled him away for most of the day, and now hes at work again.

I've been drinking a lot of fluids today, hot and cold....and I've taken vitamin C tablets. I wish I had a humidifier, but i don't. And unfortunately the closest walmart is an hour and a half away....*sigh*.

Chammomile Tea. Chammomile-Peppermint for a little extra relief. I know, some places say no tea during pregnancy, but I talked to my doctor about that ('cause I'm a major tea junkie and couldn't BELIEVE that they would tell me "no tea") and what she said was "they basically say that for people who experiment with all kinds of weird teas for herbal remedies. If you stick to the normal ones that you're familiar with--basic black teas in moderate amounts, chammomile, peppermint, even green and rooibos--you'll be just fine."

And there is research out there that says there are true medicinal properties to chicken soup helping head colds.

If you are stuffed up, you could sit in the bathroom with the hot shower running - that's what ya do with babies who have the croop.

Because of the medication I am on for seizures I can't take any OTC medications for colds. I typically drink hot echinecea tea (strengthens immune system), hot lemonade with honey (source of Vitamin C and strengthens immune system), or apple-cinnamon tea (cinnamon is a bronchial dilator). I also make a jar of Spice Tea up before cold and flu season.

Spice Tea

2 cup Instant Tang

2 cup Instant Countrytime Lemonade

3/4 cup Instant Community Tea or Lipton Tea

3 Tbs Ground Cinnamon

1 tsp Ground Cloves

1 tsp Ground Ginger

Put everything in large jar. Seal it tightly. Shake it until well blended. Let sit until everything settles.

Put 2 (or more) teaspoonsful in a mug of hot water. Stir. Enjoy.

I also use Vick's liquid in a vaporizer or Eucalyptus Oil in a diffuser when I sleep. That keeps me from becoming more congested as I sleep.

I guess it would be a little difficult for you to sleep prompted up a little to help prevent congestion. Well, if you can, you might want to try that too.

When you're awake you can use Vick's Vapor Rub around your nostrils and lips and take deep breaths when you think about it.

If you get nauseated from congestion / drainage, ginger ale, ginger tea, or peppermint tea usually helps.

Hum, that's about all I can think of.

May I add saline spray for the nose. It clears it out and is safe in pregnancy. That is how I kill off the stuffy nose myself.

I was just reading in my Natural Health magazine that Echincea is the best herbal remedy, but that it is best to look for a combination formula such as Esberitox, made by Enzymatic Therapy, as it has more things in it.

It says "if you like echincea straight up, take 300 milligrams of powdered extract 3 times a day; if using a tincture, swallow 3 to 4 milliliters 3 times a day."
