No, they gave a volume discount for the full page ad. If you can sell a full page ad, then you save yourself from trying to market the same space to a ton of different companies, and compete with all the new media in the process.

To equate liberals in general with communists is the equivalent of equating all conservatives with white supremacists and militia groups.

Anyway, as someone who works for large media and syndication company, I know a little bit about the shape that newspapers are in. If they can sell a full page worth of ad space to one customer, then they will discount that ad space in order to do so. There is no conspiracy here, but rather the simple laws of supply and demand at work. There is a glut of ad space among media outlets, both old media and new media, thus customers are able to negotiate much better prices for ad space, especially if they are willing to pay for an entire page.

I will say this too, as someone who works in the industry I work in, I can honesty say that it has been my experience that the whole conservative notion that the media has an inherent liberal bias is a myth, and is nothing but right wingers out trying to work the refs. The only bias there is in mainstream media is one toward maximizing profit.

Well, could it be that Bernard Goldberg just has sour grapes and was looking to make some money off of a book? I mean, what about all the liberal books that claim that there is actually a conservative bias to the news? It seems to me that its nothing but working the refs.

Here is the problem in a nut shell. Today's right wingers seem to think they are smarter than economists, biologists, sociologists, ecologists, climatologists, foreign policy experts, psychologists, and so on. Of course, the thing is they are not smarter than those guys are. The truth is, guys like Greenspan know more about economics than the Limbaughs of this world. Biologists know more about our biology than so called "creationists" do. Foreign policy experts know a good bit more about how the world works than right wing blowhards and Bush Administration Cheerleaders do. Sociologists know a good bit more about society works than the xenophobes on the extreme right do. Ecologists know more about our environment than talk radio personalities do. Climatologists know more about our climate than right wing think tanks do.

Thus, the ideology and policies of today's right usually fail in the real world. It usually ends up looking extremist to the majority of Americans, and thus, when the media calls a spade a spade, then all of a sudden, all the righties get up and start screaming bias. I mean heaven forbid that the actual facts on the ground intrude upon today's popular right wing mythology. See the thing is, today's right wingers have this notion about how they want the world to work, and how they think it works, but those notions have little in common with how the world actually works.

I got news for you, conservatives, moderates, libertarians etc. have college/ivy league degrees too.

Unfortunately, most of us are too busy, raising families, stabilizing society, manufacturing, producing, cultivating, etc.. to become political activists.

We aren't micro-organisms in some petry dish to be studied, we aren't an ant colony to be observed and we most definitely are not lemmings that fall for a line of bogus information, just because some labrat claims to be an expert and that we're all doomed if we refuse to give him/her control over our lives.
