OK, I'll admit - I'm a fantasy/sci-fi geek. Harry Potter to me was another fantasy book. I didn't like to make a deal of this because of the controversy surrounding the book, though. However, this kills it all.

J.K. Rowling outs Hogwarts character

By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer 32 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

Rowling, finishing a brief "Open Book Tour" of the United States, her first tour here since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."

Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

I heard that this morning. I read the first book and couldn't understand the fascination with it but there is, what I believe, some type of strange, weird hold that book has on children.

My grandchildren read it and I know I must sound like an old "fuddy-duddy" to them but I try to hint at why it isn't a good thing.

I'm going stronger than just hinting now. I'll read the passages about "wizards, and sorcerers," that God has written to them, along with a dose about homosexuality that we are constantly bombarded with as being so wonderful......no more Ms. Nicegal. They'll have to sit and listen and I pray I get through. Thank you for posting this.

She just lost a GREAT deal of respect here......How many parents are going to get her books when this is her main goal/theme?

The thing is, I don't see that in her movies. The young characters, at least the good ones, respect authority. I've only seen the movies on television though. Never read the books. :verkle:

For those of you that have not seen the movies or read the books. . . this is Professor Dumbledore  He is gay? And even more humorous is someone asking if he finds true love. I'm surprised he can find his chin... :24:

Grace to you,

Neb,

I was dissapointed as well and so was my wife when we heard this on Fox News this morning.

Did you ever see the original Actor (Can't remember his name :emot-questioned: ) who played Dumbledorr play Abraham? The guy got saved very late in life and professed Christ openly. He played Abraham with such a Spirit that you really would think that if you ever saw Abraham in real life, he was him.

I'm certain that he would not be happy either, if he were alive.

I wonder why Rowling chose the needless provocation over the issue?

Peace,

Dave

What a shame that she had to say this. It does not show up in the books or the movie, so why make an issue of it now. Unless she is just trying to keep controversy going and stir up publicity. In my opinion it is the wrong kind of publicity. I really like the books because, even though magic is a huge part of the book, it is really a struggle of good against evil, and overcoming fears, and doing the right thing against all odds. At least this latest "storyline" didn't come through in the books. Or so far in the movies. But now that she said it that leaves it wide open for it to be in the movies.

I'm glad to hear that about Richard Harris, Dave. He was in a few Bible based movies, but I know he lived quite a wild life. But if he accepted Christ late in life, he finished well.

That is easily the most pointless thing I've ever heard. Dumbledore was not gay in the books or movies, and seeing as he is a fictional character, he does not exist out of the books or movies. Yet somehow he is gay? This is nothing at all but J.K. Rowling randomly taking a stab at those who oppose homosexuality.

You do know that the story of "Harry Potter and the philosphers stone" has some similarities to the bible?

Lily Potter died so that her son may live. Jesus died so that we may have eternal life.

Harry V Voldemort. Jesus V Lucifer.

Harry was hated by those he was trying to save. The teachers hated Jesus and he was trying to save them.

In the final book of Harry Potter "Harry Potter and the deathly hallows" Harry dies so that he can save those he loves, then is resurrected. Jesus dies and is resurrected.

There is another one also at the end of Harry Potter 7 but i've only read it once and can't remember what it is.

I'm not saying the Harry Potter books are good because they are actually really addictive for some strange reason and people love these books way too much to be healthy but i feel that they can't be insulted for their theme of witchcraft and wizardry and homosexuality.

The witchcraft and wizardry theme is only a bit of harmless fun, its not like wicca, it doesn't involve ordinary people practising wicca, and it rarely results in it. The homosexuality parts.... well if your going to have a go at the Harry Potter books for having a bit of homosexuality in it then there are a lot more things you could be having a go at for including homosexuality (including Shakespeare!) and again homosexuality is not encouraged by the books.

I feel these books is slandered too much and is critisised too much. There are many other books in the world that could be slandered for doing much worse things but Harry Potter is singled out.

Again, I'm not saying the Harry Potter books are good, I just don't believe their as bad as everyone makes them out to be, i feel their undeserving to the slander that they receive.

But thats my opinion, your free to make your own. Either way. :)

Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

11.Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard or a necromancer.

12.For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

There are other scriptures about witchcraft but those let us know how God feels about it. I'm sure you already know those about homosexuality.

It can't be a good thing to give these books to our children when it is about something so against what God teaches. Rowling weaves a story where some see good things in it. That sounds a great deal like the serpent in the garden!

So.....I, as you, question why they are addictive, "for some strange reason." Why have those books so captured people? Why do some children stay up all night reading them when they never liked to read before? Why would parents buy and condone these books when God is so against what the book is about? Why has Rowling become so wealthy in such a short time? Would the books have been so accepted if she, at the beginning, stated what she did about the character being homosexual? What do you think she will do in the next book....how much farther away from God will she take it? Does anyone really believe those books are worth all of that? Strange indeed!

It is, as you said, a choice everyone makes on their own but it does concern me.

One thing that strikes me in all of this is that Christians are the target of so much antagonism. We aren't the only people opposed to homosexual behavior, but yet that lifestyle is waived as a red flag to enrage Christians. The books are about good vs evil, so why not just leave it there. Why inflame Christians? Why not say that Voldemort was a Muslim terrorist? That would have incited some real anger towards her. It just seems to me that everywhere you turn, attempts are being made to make Christians out to be the bad guys.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
