Complete and Updated Catechism of the Catholic Church (Image/Doubleday) 2nd edition

with modifications from the editio typica

On page 128-129 it says:

460 The Word became flesh to make us "partakers of the divine nature" "For this is why the Word became man, and the Son of God became the Son of man: so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God." "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God." "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods."

Please clarify what it means when it says man came become God.

It's not literal. I think it means that by accepting Jesus we become intune with God; in other words: we become one with God's love and such.

I could be wrong, however.

I am not an anti-Catholic. I just came across the text and wanted to know what it means.

The "one" in one, holy, catholic, apostolic, I think it has to do with the unity of faith, the new testamnet has it 31 times, "thee faith" it's not me & Jesus, it the fact that we must all believe the same things, the "deposit of faith" or a Romans has it, "obedience or faith"!

One: Unity, Holy: Our founder was holy and the means of santification, Catholic: universal, the greek word for universal comes bask in english as catholic, Apostolic: from the Apostles and commected to them, Apostolic succesion.

high this is damo since i use to be appart of the cathlic orthodox church in yougoslavia i think i can shed some light but i was not a full committed cathlic like my grandmother and my grandfather wear i have heard a cathlic priest preach on this in my village as things i heard when i was 5 yrs old are starting to come back to me we came to australia in 1971 so i was stil very young and my grandmother and grandfather joined up with cathlic church in mascot

john 1

1 in the begining was the word and the word was with god and the word was god

2 he was with god in the beginning

what is missing from what you stated is this

3 through him all things were made with out him nothing was made that has been made

4 in him was life and that life was the light of man

5 the light shines in the darkness but the darkness has not understood it

9 the true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world

10 he was in the world and through the world was made through him the world did not recognize him

11 he came to that which was his own but his own did not receive him

12 yet to all who received him to those who belived in his name he gave the right to become children of god

that is one twister and the cathlic preists like throwing those twisters un les you are able to read the bible which they read from the holy bible or the old kings james no wonder you are trying to figure out what this means as to the cathlics you need to do good works as i know salvation can only be gained by faith and faith alone not good works this is what my grand mother and grand father were told that they had to become like god to see the world around them and then to get to god they had to work hard and do good for the vilage they wear living in and be kind and help ful and give what they have to the church and you can only be forgiven your sins threw the priests you can not go to god by your self and ask god your self to forgive you you need to do this with the parish priest as he is the only one that has the right to enter into the holy of holys and comunicat with god

this is what got me mad when i was young even though i loved my grand father and grand mother i did not like what i saw with my own eyes and what the priests wear doing to those in their parishes and i could not comit and become an orthadox cathlic as they wanted me to be an altar boy just like some of the other boys and i could not see my self wearing what altar boys wear it looked to sissy for me in the village i was living in yougoslavia

most cathlic preists think they are god because they feel they are the only ones that can comunicate to god this is part of their doctrine i new one preist in sydney who i use to go and see with my mate he was gay he openly told us this and he bought my mate what ever he wanted that is including alcahol or spirits

no one can be made to be a god my father in heaven is the only true god we are created in the image of him

and this is what the cathlic preists would not tel the parishes they wear pastoring as the truth was right in front of them but they avoided the truth of gods word and only said what they felt was needed to be said the other verses i gave you this is what some could not understand

jesus came to reconcile man back to god this is what they could not understand or new this yet did not want to belive it i am not bashing cathlics hear as i pray with spirit filled cathlics my self and i also pray with sevral spirit filled nuns who have become like spiritual mothers to me even though i am with the christian out reach center i am very apostolic i have gotten to know these spirit filled nuns and we get on very well as even the cathlics i know that are pulling away from their parishes they are starting to see that the doctrine that has been passed on to them from the head office in italy is wrong and are denouncing every thing that has ever been taught to them

so i am not just talking from my head

al i can say that is one twister my friend can i ask wear you got this and with your permisson can i show this to the spirit filled cathlic nuns i know i wil not give anything that you left in your post until i hear from you as i am sure the cathlic spirit filled nuns i know wil tell you what i have told you and give you the same verses i gave you

i could be wrong though yet this is how i see what you are trying to work out

from your brother in the lord damo

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law , I said ye are Gods? If he called them gods unto whom the word of God came and the scripture cannot be broken.

You do know the word God is generic and is not the name of the creator ? The creator is called by many names in the bible . God is the English word for creator.

The word God and Lord mean a person in power and authority . Its a myth that God is the name of our creator.

Just a guess but I would say what you have posted shows that the Catholics realize God means a person who is honored or has authority and deserves respect. That they know God is not the name or title of the creator of all of us.

Just a guess though as I am not catholic.

It actually goes back to the teaching of the Incarnation - basically, the idea is that the miracle didn't end with the assumption of Jesus. Once Jesus - God in the flesh, literally - was no longer on earth, those who followed him became the eyes, ears, hands, etc. of God. So God became man -> Incarnation -> (Christian) man becomes the embodiment of God (in a way beyond "created in the image" - perhaps fulfilling that original "design?").

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
