To lighten things up a bit, let's talk about our favorite OT characters. Are there any particular stories or events that stand out for you? Or do you connect with any of them?

C'mon, who do you like, and why? :t2:

I am encouraged by so many. But, today one comes to mind:

Gideon (Judges 6, 7 and 8)

I love this story as it shows how Gideon viewed himself: least of his family and practically worthless in the Lord's service.

Yet God used him for great and mighty things, not by Gideon's power or strength, but by His Holy power.

I'm sure you all know the story, so I will avoid paraphrasing it here.

Anyway, that's my vote for today.

BTW, thanx for the post Traveller. It should bring up some exciting and provocative opinion.

John

It would be Moses for me. I can TOTALLY relate to his fear of speaking and trying to get out of it. :t2: That's exactly what I would have done too. Also, it was so awesome that God revealed His Power so very clearly, that Moses would have no doubt about Who was in control! That would have to be me too! I'm a scaredy cat, but I know that God is Awesome and Powerful, He's my Daddy! He can do anything!!! I just really love everything about the story of Moses, it totally exemplifies the enormous ways that God works in a believers life, and we'd better not have preconceived notions about how "we" want to do things, cause it's not about us and our plans, it's about God and His plans and glory, and how He can use a person who is willing.

In His Love,

Suzanne

My favorite OT character is David. I even named my oldest son David. Just because he had such a heart for the Lord.

But I admit I identify with the women, like Sarah, Rachel, Dinah , Ruth, even Rahab. I just read their stories and I can almost feel like I am there. I have the series by Francine Rivers on the Bible women who were in the line of Christ and they are so good. Highly recommend.

I think that I would have to say that Esther is my favorite old testament character. I mean, there's a whole book of the Bible with her name on it. :t2: Esther showed such courage when her people faced a problem so I would definitely say Esther , if I HAD to choose.

I was just about to say Esther too. I love the book of Esther, such an amazing lady.

There is a song that Carmen did a film clip to with another female singer don't know her name. I see that story over and over in my mind. If only more of us could stand as she did.

Don't know if anyone else knows the song I am talking about or the female singer who sang it with Carmen. It was on a video called Carmen Kidz the Vidz.

Definetly Esther.

I would say that Joseph is my favorite OT person. He is the most complete picture of Christ, and really has an amazing story.

I have several, but I will post them one at a time..

Daniel!

Even as a young man, probably a teenager, he and his friends purposed in their hearts not to defile themselves. He lived a life dedicated to serving the one true God in the midst of a pagan people.

I wish all Christian young people would study the life of Daniel and his friends to learn how to stand alone, if need be, and live a life pleasing to the Lord.

I have several too!

But I get a laugh when I think of Jonah! Sitting under a gourd vine "pouting", sounds like many of us. When we are angry with someone, we don't always necessarily want to forgive...yet we know God will forgive them, and we aren't at all sure we want Him to! God seems to show a bit of humor here too when He says, "Doest thou well to be angry?"

Several ways to look at this I know, but...well...I like "happpy"

Like hummingbird, I think Jonah is a hoot! God provides him with the shade of the vine, and when it dies, he curses the vine. LOL. I think we as Christians are very like Jonah. God will call us to do things, or witness to a certain person, and more often than not I think we just run off, which just gets us into more trouble! We need to have compassion for the lost even if we don't like them. I don't want to be like Jonah, but I know I am. None-the-less he is still funny. And its funny how we are just like him sometimes!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
