Shalom Emily Anne,

Amen, good words. I am also reminded of Titus 2: 3-5

3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

We are to teach women what is GOOD. We are not to teach them that if dress seductively and our brother stumbles that it is HIS fault for not turning his eyes away. That is not Biblical thinking and it goes against what we, as women, should do, live and teach our daughters and those in the faith.

I agree, we should teach girls and women to dress appropriately. I absolutely agree. But that's just common sense. Women are more apt to be harmed when dressed a certain way.

In bringing a bible verse into it, you took the words "They are to teach what is good". But what of the rest? Do we just leave that part out? Along with those things should we also not teach women to submit wholly to their husbands, and to work at home?

Context. It is good to take teachings from the bible. But one cannot simply take a few words from a verse and leave out the rest. It was written in context, and so should remain in context.

Shalom Thoughtful,

Sorry, you have stated something that is an incorrect assumption and run with it. I bolded the WHOLE verse. However, I was making a point about "teaching what is good."

Who said anything about not taking the rest of the verse and applying it? That's why I posted ALL of it, because it's applicable. I teach ALL of it because it is ALL G-d's Word. You should really consider the contest of the post before making incorrect statements.

It is not only illogical, but it is simply a lie to accuse anyone of ignoring the rest of that verse.

Shalom,

Back to topic,

Bottom line is, the OP is a BIBLICAL exhortation to women to dress modestly. It is Scriptural. It is not legalistic. It is not Pharisaical. It is G-d's Word.

It is good to take it and apply it to our lives instead of kicking and screaming against it.

So we should teach women, among being modest, to work at home and submit wholly to their husbands? You agree and believe this because its God's word?

Shalom Thoughtful,

Please don't hijack this thread. The topic is about women dressing modestly. If you want to start another debate about Titus 2:3-5, please start another thread. This one is about modest dress for women.

This topic is always problematic for me. The vast majority of Christian sisters do not need to be told what "modest" means. They don't have to have what is too revealing, too tight, etc. defined for them. They already know that and do a wonderful job of passing that knowledge onto younger (in the faith) sisters who are struggling. In my experience, when this topic arises, it is usually less from a genuine desire to reinforce modesty so much as it is someone's attempt to ease their own struggle with this at the expense of the sister's peace of mind. In other words, its about power and control - who gets to tell whom how to live.

Shalom Rufus,

Oh my, what an unG-dly thing to say about people you don't even know! How can you judge people's heart like that? Shame. :)

As a Titus 2 women's teacher, I wholeheartedly DISAGREE with your opinion that women know what modest means. In fact, I think more women's ministries should teach what modest means because so many women do not know. I deal with this daily, so I see it first-hand. Most women do NOT know what modest means and sincerely need to be taught.

We have people being saved left and right and have no Christian upbringing and no teaching on what the Bible calls "Good" teaching. We, as women of the faith are to teach the younger ones in the faith HOW to walk as women unto G-d. IT's not about control, it's about love - loving G-d, His Word and love for our sisters in the faith.

Be careful when you judge people's hearts and motives that only G-d can judge, for with that you will be judged.

Luke 6

37 "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you.

I do feel there is a place for Titus Two women in the area of exhorting young women to dress modestly. Look at the styles today! It is too easy to slowly start evolving to the world's style. It really is. I have done it myself! :)

So where is the original poster in this discussion? :):39::noidea: I have just checked. Since he posted the OP, he has not contributed to this discussion at all. Is he just sitting there enjoying the debate anonymously? :noidea: :noidea: I just can't see the point of starting a discussion and then not posting in response! :noidea:

(Maybe I am just naive!).

I suggest that the discussion is stopped here until he responds to some of the points that have been made in response to his OP!!! :o :o :o :o

As a man, it is next to impossible for me to address the question of female modesty effectively. There have been ocassions when I have asked older sisters to intervene with younger sisters at church because, to put it delicately, the young sister has left nothing to the imagination. That is a situation that has to be handled with much tact and diplomacy and the best qualified people to handle it are the older sisters who have gone through that struggle and emerged victorious. As a Christian man, it is my responsibility to guard my eyes and my thoughts, not to ruin some young girl's day because she doesn't know any better.

Shalom Rufus,

You point out that sisters NEED to be taught, and yet you criticize those who teach and accuse them of evil motives?

So I'm confused what you're trying to say. Would you please clarify?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
