So which specific Apostle referred to himself as a "Pentecostal"? What specific denomination did Paul belong to? Why must some kind folk be something other or more than the Holy Bible ascribes to those in Christ Jesus?

How about -AMBASSADORS......WITNESSES.......SOLDIERS......SAINTS......BRETHREN......DISCIPL

S......SHEEP.......ETC? Excellent query.

Petecostalism is not about speaking in tongues, or being "slain in the spirit" ..... pentecostalism is not about a denomination...

most people will tell you that speaking in tongues is a must to be baptised in the Holy Spirit, I say that is not so...

So you know of Pentecostal people who don't speak in tongues?

You know people who receive the Spirit baptism and don't speak in tongues?

This is news to me :t2:

Actually, Steve, Yes, I have seen and know of those that have not spoken in tongues, and have been "baptized" ( and are filled ) with the Holy Spirit...

speaking in tongues is only one sign of being filled with the Spirit, and may not even be the first sign.....

one in peticular person was given the Gift ( thats right, gift, the Holy Spirit can give as the Holy Spirit wishes, and the Holy Spirit will take away as the Holy Spirit needs ) of interpretation long before he ever uttered one single sound outside of english ( or french, german, finnish, celtic, korean and chineese, which were studied ..... this person also had been used for healing and prophecy as well, still before ever uttering one sound.

there are nine Gifts of the Spirit, and all are from the SAME SPIRIT.

Arthur, the term pentecostal, was the term used for those that experienced the same things that happened during the time of pentecost. it really is not a denomination, but an experience. pentecostals ( I do not believe ) were the ones that first started using the term, but others using it to identify those that were experiencing it...... just as Christians, were not the ones that refered to themselves as Christians, but others refering to them as being Christian.

many tags were not actually used by the person or group originating it, but by others pointing to them......

some people refer to other people as "BIBLE THUMPERS" I have been refered to as one, but do not call myself a bible thumper, some have called me a FANATIC ( a Jesus fan , i like that ) why not refer to those that are football fans as "fanatics"?

myself, I do not care for sports ( watching them ) so much, can only watch for a short time before i am ready to do something more constructive..... when my son is playing ball, or in the band or half time show, we go and support him, but also take along the Bible and read it between times he is playing.... honest, we do, why? cause i am not much of a sports fan, as far as watching, i like to play golf, bowling, baseball, and such.....

as far as a "religious" tag, you can tag me anything you want, it dont matter what you call me, what matters is what Jesus calls me..... for that is the one I have to deal with after this life, not some one trying to figure out what tag a person should wear.

am I a Jesus FAN - attic? yep, I AM..... do I attend a peticular denomination? yep, I sure do, why? no reason other then the peticular fellowship/congregation I am with, has a pastor that preaches the truth, and pulls no punches.....

did you know that 100 years ago, to be a pentecostal ment that you might be locked in your church building? that others would block the exits, like in nailing the doors shut..... did you know that the "main line" denominations would harrass and hound and mess with those that had experienced the same things that had happened during pentecost?..... did you know that the reason was is they were afraid of what was happening, they could not explain it, they could not understand it, so they were against it...... that in 1913, a woman was brought back from the dead, told her husband that her work here was done, that he had work left to do and that he was to release her to go home... do you realize that there is still alot of healings that are taking place, healings that are totally baffling the medical facilities, healings that are totally unexplained...... why???? cause people are experiencing the same things that happened during the Pentecost that is talked about in the Bible..... people believe it, and are seeking it and finding it......

Guest Judgment and Hope, Isaiah 66
Posted

Hi bengu and everybody out their. I dont intend to get off the track, but i hope that what i say may give some important pionts of view.I was raised in a pentecostal church in which i myself have seen many miracles.I am know currently going to a far less pentecostal church in which i feel that it seems more real.In saying this i dont mean to give the wrong impression as i have received gifts myself.Im a christian man whos testimony is in the testimonial section.I am a strong beleiver in the power of God working through people, but my resons for going to my current church is that i feel that some gifts are thrown around or treated unduly. To me they are real gifts and are real to me and should be treated as it is, a gift, but this has left me in a very strange predicament in which i am afraid to mention my testimony to anybody as im afraid to be judged.I feel that we need to be grounded in our spiritual walk, as gifts are for real and so is the devil. I feel that we should allowing the lords gracious gifts to flow but to be grounded in the truth.Another perspective is the we should go searching for these gifts but still remain real.I still consider myself a young adult christian but my walk has been long. I just hope that we as christian can begin to support each other, to help people to feel comfortable with God given gifts, to norish and teach the truth, for it is real and the spiritual battle still continues. With love, God bless.

I hear you, but WHY call yourself what others may call you when the Holy Scriptures already call us by its terms, ie, disciples of Christ, ambassadors, true witnesses of Jehovah, brethren & sisters, etc, etc.? If everybody starts calling themselves by names of someone else's choosing, why we'd start to have a world of DESIGNATED MISH-MASH just like.......well, just like WE HAVE!

Which disciple referred to himself as a "Pentecostal" or a "Lutheran" or a "Methodist? To whom did the Apostle Paul belong - was it Cephas, Apollos OR Christ alone? Very interesting, no?

Let names & sects & parties fall,

And Jesus Christ be all in all.

well,

""""""""""""

I hear you, but WHY call yourself what others may call you when the Holy Scriptures already call us by its terms, ie, disciples of Christ, ambassadors, true witnesses of Jehovah,"""""""""""""

if we is true wittnesses of Jehovah, then I guess we ought to be called Jehovah Wittnesses................... right?????

now isnt calling some one a disciple of Christ saying the same thing as calling them a CHRISTIAN?????

Jesus was also called the son of the carpenter when he was in his home town....

they all recognized him as such.....

my mother has several names, Judith, Judy, Johnny, Miss J, Mrs O, Mrs D, Teacher, Mother, Mommy, Mom, Amma, Grandma, Maama, Hon, Honey....

we are all tagged with a name, and what that name says means alot to some and very little to others......

if a person is called a pentecostal, then pretty soon that person will adopt that name for themselves, if a person is called a baptist, the same thing....

why call anyone anything other then their given name...

Being filled with the Holy Spirit and being in-filled with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit are two different things. Those who have received Christ have the Holy Spirit in them, and so are born again. Each day the believer is being lead into obedience while doing Christ's will (as humanly possible), as they become a "new creation."

The in-filling of the Holy Spirit (different from the Holy Spirit entering a new believer upon conversion) is a gift which is not only an outward sign to other believers, but an aide to the believer in their own walk of faith.

There are many "Pentecostals" who do not speak in tongues! Some may never.... God gives his gifts accordingly! The most important gift he desires all of us is to strive for is LOVE!

Is there a bible reference tu such difference? Recieveing as opposed to be filled with the HS?

I understand that we can hinder the HS from working freely in our life, but besides some Old Testament references to "recieving double portion " of HS, is there somthing in ACTS or after tu support such theory?

And . . .say there is. Why would the fullnes of the HS be only demonstrable by speaking in tongues, a gift that Paul clearly classified as secondary?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
