Authority to set the work week Rom 13.

Shalom JB,

Now, that's a big stretch! :th_praying::emot-hug:

My husband and I do not go to work, as we are disabled. So, we don't have a work week and we recognize Sabbath is Saturday.

My friend Cynthia, works from Wednesday to Sunday as her week. But she is wise enough to understand that just because HER work week starts on Wednesday, that doesn't change the day of the Biblical Sabbath.

One has nothing to do with the other. Sorry.

To be able to tell me when the Actual Week or the Biblical Sabbath is you must first be able to tell me exactly how many days ago God said let there be light. Then it is a simple matter of dividing that number by seven to find out what day today is.

I have been watching this thread with interest it appears that some of you would like to see the Sabbath used as a stumbling block for man. A famous man once said, The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

And it was said also of Jesus, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath."

If you don't mind I'll keep His counsel.

Have a nice Actual Week.

Well I respect Jemdude for his beliefs, I don't agree but I think on all issues such as this if one believes that something will indeed cause you to lose your faith we should look at the scripture surrounding the issue.

Since the Sabbath is one of the 10 Commandments, that's all the proof that is really needed; unless you believe that all 10 Commandments have been abolished.

So let us look at those scriptures surrounding both the commandments, the Law and the Sabbath. You see for example Christ indeed gave us greater understanding of the commandments in several cases. For example looking at a women in lust is adultery, not just having relations with her. What does scripture have to say about the Sabbath? What does Christ say about the Sabbath, what does St. Paul say about the Sabbath?

We can look at scripture in each case.

Yes those would support your contention to some degree.

Scripture also says for example that Christ is our Sabbath rest very directly in Hebrews.

Scripture says for us not to be judged on "new moons or Sabbaths". That the New Covenent is our covenent "13By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear."

In addition what does Christ say when asked about what commandments one should follow to serve Him?

16Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" 17"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." 18"Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19honor your father and mother,'[d] and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'[e]"

20"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" 21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

If this was an easy issue honest people would not disagree. I can see your point I am not writing you of but I honestly feel that I have scriptural support for my belief that I am indeed fullfilling the Sabbath command, but not by worrying about days and outward observance.

Peace to you.

Christ may be our Sabbath rest in the sense that He says to people to come to Him; those who are weak and heavy laden, but we still have to observe the Sabbath. Having faith in Jesus in and of itself is not keeping the Sabbath.

As for not judging a person on a new moon or Sabbath, that is not a license to disregard the Sabbath. I do not think that verse is referring to the Sabbath being abolished.

As for the rich young ruler, Jesus only mentioned a few of the 10 Commandments to indicate which commandments He was talking about. He didn't have to mention all 10 of them. For example, just because He didn't mention not to worship any god but Yahweh, doesn't mean he wants us to break that one.

If Jesus wanted us to keep Sunday as His new holy day, don't you think Jesus would have specifically mentioned it? Wouldn't have Paul specifically mentioned it? Don't you find it odd that after thousands of years of Sabbath observance, no one says anything about a change? And if it were mentioned, don't you think it would have caused massive controversy?

Well for me those versus are consistent with how Christ calls us to follow Him. Keeping outward things, such as food, or days etc are all outward observance but are of no value against the sins of the flesh according to scripture. What does Christ care about? Does He mainly care about things like circumcision or not cooking on some day of the week, or does He care about things like being faithful to our wife or loving our neighbor, or not having outbursts of wrath and anger, or envy etc? I think scripture points to the latter; if we look at the New Testament we see the concern of following Christ through our heart and how this impacts how we treat each other and ourselves.

I have a great respect for SDA as I have several family members who are SDA and it has greatly helped them, but I just don't think some of these things are scriptural. Maybe God will show me in the end that I have been looking at the Sabbath all wrong and I will be grieved, but I honestly don't think that I am reading scripture wrong, but who knows?

So I would encourage you to follow scripture and I realize that for you that means keeping a strict Sabbath, there is indeed a verse in Romans about not condemning each other over this very matter. But if you believe I am wrong then I would ask for your prayers.

Which counsel would that be? Since the Sabbath was made for man (His counsel), it was made for you to keep. Or are you not a man? "This man is not from God" was not Christ speaking, so it was not His counsel.

Colossians

2:16

Therefore don't let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a sabbath day.

2:17

These are a shadow of what was to come; the substance is the Messiah.

Romans

14:5

One person considers one day to be above another day. Someone else considers every day to be the same. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind.

14:6

Whoever observes the day, observes it to the Lord. Whoever eats, eats to the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; and whoever does not eat, it is to the Lord that he does not eat, yet he thanks God.

14:10 But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. 11 For it is written: As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to Me, and every tongue will give praise to God. 12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. 13 Therefore, let us no longer criticize one another, but instead decide not to put a stumbling block or pitfall in your brother's way.

So for sure it's not your counsel.

I was just wondering if the Sabbath was Saturday or Sunday? I have heard different ppl say different days. Also our calandar's week starts Sunday making Saturday the last day of the week.

Is the day important or a matter of picking one and observing it as the Sabbath?

The actual sabbath is when Christ returns and sets up his kingdom on earth. It is God's rest. God set one day out of seven for us to remember what is coming and in like manner keep it holy. Not doing our own thing or our own will on His Holy Day. A mirror of what is to come. Prior to the day of the Lord, The sabbath, God's rest. The world built and run by man will fall and never, ever rise again.

The Sabbath is "the day of the Lord". And a day to the Lord is a thousand years.

2 Peter 3

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Jemdude,

I just wanted to say Shabbat Shalom to you.

May the L-rd bless you as you seek to glorify Him in all you do.

And this is a reminder to all of us:

Romans 14

5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.

No it's not my counsel, it's Christ's. All your reasoning for not keeping the Day He commands are just excuses to not doing what He says.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
