Message Boards vs. Chat rooms

Why? I wonder am I told that some of you will only chat through message boards and not in the chat rooms? OR why those in the chat rooms will not write on the message boards? What is the fear?

it's not fear at all!

Chat is usually not conducive to discussing anything in depth. I'm not very good at small talk and have trouble keeping up with 15 people at once.

I am way too SLOW (and old) to participate in Chat room discussions. My fingers can't always keep up and the pace of exchange add to my stress :sweating: rather than relieve it.

I love the message boards though!

Same here, I am too slow at typing as well, by the time I post, its already yesterdays news.

And like Yod said it really doesnt allow for in depth discussions.

Although I was on the Worthy Chat one day and a young fella recieved the Lord! Praise God! So they both have their use and value, and I do visit every once in a while.

how is your pet mouse? Do you like school? Music is cool. I like movies...do you? What is the weather like? Do you paint your toenails? Should I cut my hair?

Yeah....I guess we do a lot small talk around here but at least we can finish typing a sentence while the conversation is still going.

Hey YOD,

I went to a Chat meeting with George a month or so ago...my first time. My impression of the meeting was "poor George"!!! It was like trying the herd a bunch of cats! :oww: BUT George was real ...I don't know how he did it but he managed to stay focused on the meeting.

Although Chat is a great tool, I still prefer the message boards.

I agree, it is not fear. I have tried the chat room a few times. It gets boring real quick. And if you do get involved in a good conversation it gets all muddied up to quick..... In my opinion it is not worth the time it takes to discuss something of value. I think small talk has a place, but it should not dominate.

The boards are good in that you can choose what you want to reply to. But it too has it's draw backs. Subjects get hijacked way to easy. And most of the time not on purpose. Plus most, but not all, of the posters are circular. You can almost tell what slat the message is going to have by the name at the top.........

You all hit the nail on the head! chat is just tooooo chatty and no substance (usually IMO). I have not gone to the chat room here.
