How is Christianity different from other religions?

Christianity differs from all other religions in three areas.

The first area is the love, humility and faithfulness of God. Christianity teaches that God loves us so greatly, that although we were unfaithful to Him and betrayed Him He humbled Himself and took a human form and sacrificed His life to save us from eternal death and bring us forgiveness of our sins (John 3:16).

The second area is the about Christian life. As Christians we have to love others the way God loves us (John 15:12). We have to love our enemies, do good deeds for them and pray for them; if someone takes our coat, give them our shirt as well; offer the other cheek if someone slaps us on one; lend and do not expect it back; and be merciful like our heavenly Father (Luke6:27-36). Furthermore, we have to forgive our enemies unceasingly (Luke 17:4); not pay evil with evil, never take revenge; feed our enemy; not allow evil to defeat us; and over come evil with good (Romans 12: 17-21). Furthermore, legal dispute is incompatible with Christianity; and it is better for us to be wronged or robbed than to wrong others or rob them (1 Cor. 6:7).

Third area is about marriage. We are to love our spouse the same way as Christ loves His Church (Ephesians 5:25). Christ never abandons His Church. We, therefore, can never divorce our spouse. Furthermore, when we marry, we and our spouse become one. It is therefore, a one to one relationship. Remarriage after divorce, therefore, is adultery; and a person can have only one spouse (Mk 10:11-12, Luke 6:18; Matthew 5: 31-32).

The God of Israel just happens to be real.

Luke 6:18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were cleaned. If I haev erad this correctly, I don't understand howthis applies to your marriiae issue.

If a spouse has commited adultry and you are divorced for that reason. Are you suggesting that this person can never marry again.

Compared to some other religions, as believers we don't do good works to earn our salvation but rather good works are the result of being saved. Therefore, there isn't a wondering - how many good works does it take? For Christians, it is clearly defined. 1Jo 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Yahweh is faithful and just!

Maybe its just me, but I dont think of Christianity as "religion" anymore.

All the above posts are perfect illustrations of exactly why I say that Christianity is NOT a religion. All the religions are basically the same in their core:

*Do good, be good to earn salvation or free yourself from suffering.

*You get more than one chance at life, aka reincarnation or some such concept.

*The universe is about you and about you achieving something.

All those are clearly the exact opposite of what Christianity is:

*Slavation by faith. Good works are result of that salvation, not means to it, and are motivated by love towards the One Who saved you. Saved to save, saved to serve.

*You live once, and once only.

*Universe is about God, HIS purpose, and for HIM.

So, I dont see it fit to compare Christianity, or count it in the same line with, to what humans made up(believes that are so radically different from Christianity).

Christianity differs from all other religions

In a relationship with Christ we have no need to compare ourselves with what others believe because relationship is the principal difference. We are part of a family. And as part of a family we know we are different and belong.

But at the same time, it is interesting to think as Christians that our relationship with God as part of his family depends on the relationship God has as Father of Israel.

Knowing, as an essential part of our belief, that our opportunity to be part of that family where God is our Father is not by right or anything we have done, but out of God's love for Israel, is very humbling, and should be a motivating thought in the minds of all Christians.

We have the opportunity to be part of that family in which God is the Father, only because Jesus Christ was not recognised as the Messiah by the majority of Israel when Jeshua was on earth, and because the love of God for Israel was so great that he could not bear to wipe out his disobedient child.

As Christians we exist as such purely because of that hesitation of a loving Heavenly Father.

It is our responsibility as Christians to work with gratitude and love for the time when, as Paul says, all Israel will be saved.

That is our opportunity and joy and peace, and the reason for our existence in the family of which God is the Father.

It is focused and based on the overwhelming love God has for Israel.
