IMO...there is only one true way to study the Bible accurately...systematically. Knowing why each of the 66 books was written, knowing the inspired reason each author wrote to his audience...knowing his audience....and how each particularly books adds to the body of knowledge a post canon reader is supposed to comprehend. I am currently studying Joshua in the OT and Romans in the NT. I would like to hear what others are studying and what they are discovering and learning.

Right now i am studying the book of John. It has some good Food for thought of how we should live and how we should act to show that we are children of God. I have found it hard, because i am just starting my journey, to change / break some old / bad habits, but this book seems to be helping me along that path.

I just started reading the Bible on Christmas, and I am on Ezra. I have read it in order so far but I have to be honest and say I skim read through Kings! That book was hard for me to get through and I am sure I missed something in there and will get back to it eventually. I am so hungry to get to each new book!

Hey congratulations on having a plan to read the Bible through. That is more than most will everr attempt to do. After you read it through though, let me suggest that you tackle one book and not leave it until you have thoroughly study its background and message. Do you own a study Bible?

what a fabulous question david!!! :)

what system do you use for studying? like what is your process.

i just finished studying romans. i used a guide for this one. 2 months ago i started a subject study on joy -- i've learned so much about joy in the last 2 months!! when you go thru scripture and write out everyone of God's ideas on joy you get a very clear picture of what He gave it to us for :P oh, also i have found that people sometimes judge you when you are very joyful; the most wonderful thing i learned is that joy REALLY DOES give you strength, especially when you apply it to a sorrow/trial or tribulation.

and then i have various other subjects that i've been studying for about 2-3 years (prayer, praise, and submission) ... what God showed me about these particular subjects is that "My people spend so much time and money at colleges and universities, but they don't seek My Word that way"

i sensed that the Lord wanted me to approach my study of His Word this way, so thats what i'm doing; it would appear that i'm getting my 'doctorate' in prayer, praise, and submission because i've been attending for 3 years now and it doesn't appear to be coming to end anytime soon; i've noticed that some courses can take up to 10 years to complete

i would like to hear whatever anyone else does for studying also; i'm always looking for fresh "out of the box" ideas to study God's Word ... or would that change the thread??

somehow when i first read it, i managed to skip right over the "what have you learned" part... i hope i'm reading scripture more carefully than i'm reading your posts! :)

i've learned a lot of things, and it's really hard to pinpoint anything specifically. i think first and foremost, the thing i've learned is that it has always been God's nature to let us sweat things out, to make sure we are fully relying on Him before he comes charging in to the rescue. it has taken me a long time to learn that little nugget of truth, and it's only been recently that i figured it out. (i'm a slow learner!) so imagine my surprise when i read the story that i already knew by heart... or THOUGHT i knew by heart, of when abraham took his son up there to sacrifice him, and when isaac asked where the sacrifice was, his daddy said that God would provide one. and God sure did! but not until the very last second, as abraham was about to plunge the knife into his son's heart.

but that's not the only thing i learned from all that... and again, this is stuff that i should have already known, but it was more head knowledge than heart knowledge, ya know? but i also learned just how jealous of a God we serve! He really does expect us to put HIM before anyone else in our life... before our children, before our husband or wife, before our mother or father or brother or sister or anyone else. HE must come first, and when we really, truly put our relationship with Him at the very top of our list of priorities, and especially before our relationships with anyone else, that's when God is going to bless us the most... and bless our other relationships.

.........................and that's just what i learned in genesis! i learned a lot in exodus too. i really enjoyed exodus. but i have to say, the first half of leviticus has taught me little more than to persevere... and i don't mean in my personal life, i mean to really grit my teeth through the repetition of all those instructions about how to build the temple, followed by the identical details of how the temple was built... and the instructions given to moses regarding all the sacrifices, and the priests duties, and then the samething repeated as the instructions were followed by aaron and then by his sons.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
