Guest asduke
I have a question about baptizing. In the Bible there were people who baptized but they weren't called "Pastors". John the baptist baptized, the 12 baptized, before and after they were Apostles, Philip the deacon baptized, Paul baptized, and some members of the churches Paul established also baptized. So why is it that today, if someone is saved in the church that only the Pastor can baptize them? If a friend brought you to Christ, who says that friend can't baptize you? Within the Chruch of Christ that I grew up in, any member of the chruch could baptize people. A lot of fathers baptized their children and a spouse or two that I remember. I am not sure about any other organizations, and I no longer go there. Sam

It's as simple as that. Man's tradition and religion have dictated which certain members are "qualified" to baptize others. What qualified John the Baptist to baptize people in the Jordan? Nothing other than the fact that he loved the Lord and was obedient to His will.

I've heard of new converts to Christ in communist countries who actually had no way to be formally baptised. So upon believing in Christ, they secretly went to their own bathtubs and baptised themselves.... It was the best they could do; if anyone found out, they'd be shot. So, they quietly and privately did it themselves as an act of faith and obedience. You go with what you got....

We are a priesthood of believers. The clergy hierarchy of paid professionals came later in church history (clergy-laity distinction). We are all ministers. Anyone can baptize, but it is also good for a Pastor in a local church to do it as a testimony to the Body and unbelievers.

Any baptized person may baptize another person. According to the oldest Christian traditions ALL Christian baptisms are valid. Catsmeow has brought up an interesting idea "self baptism" something to ask God about i suppose. All Praise The Ancient Of Days
