The public library board of Sacramento is coming under fire for its failure to deal with a policy that allows pornography to be viewed at its Internet terminals.

Campaign for Children and Families considers it a failure that the public library board finished with a 7-7 tie vote on the question. Randy Thomasson says board members "fell down on the job" during last week's vote -- leaving dangers to women and children. He notes those dangers arise from associated activities by those who view pornography, which includes masturbation and the presence of pedophiles.

"It's a terrible place, now, in the Sacramento libraries, for women and children because this pornography is the fuel for sexual criminals," Thomasson maintains.

Thomasson discloses that the American Civil Liberties Union actually wants the library to remove porn filters and add computer desks for more shielded pornography viewing. This is in stark contrast of pro-family supporters who want a no-porn policy and procedures that mirror a model from the Monroe County Library System in Rochester, New York.

"It is a model for the country because it blocks all the pornography, yet gives access for bona-fide research," explains Thomasson.

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors can still pass the kind of measure that would provide such resources, says Thomasson, and he remains hopeful that locals will bring the matter up soon for the board's agenda.

These people can't get this anti-porn statute passed? What's the matter with them? Since when does the law entitle anyone to view pornography on tax payer owned computers? And, of course, the ACLU always comes to the defense of the indefensible. This is one of those things that make you wonder if the devil himself is working for them these days.

Here is my viewpoint on this:

I really couldn't care less what people do at home in regards to internet as long as it is legal. Public librays are a different thing because people especially kids can walk by and see what the person is looking at.

Many librarys have filters but they are both a blessing and curse. Some 13 year looking information on breast cancer will find himself blocked becuase the filters block the word "breast".

From what I understand, the filters are somehow intuitive and are able to do be manipulated for the purpose of research. How they know the difference between research and other things is beyond me

Someone needs to go knock some sense into the ACLU. Give me a break. Why don't they go to court for the ppl being explioted in the porn industry, instead of for the addicts who want to watch it on public computers.

Because they are totally anti-Christian, anti-family and anti-good sense; they support every amoral, repulsive, degenerate cause that comes along (think..NAMBLA) ......the ACLU, IMO, should be sidelined. NO ONE has the right to surf porn sites on public computers in full view of minors. I need to check to see if they are getting tax payers' money...from the same tax payers who paid for those computers.
