Pope Worries About 'Soulless' U.S. Life

I don't think that we should preach a new gospel, Jesus and Him crucified is what leads souls to salvation. However, in regards to today's youth I think the church needs to be more relevant. Let's be honest, kids don't like coming to some boring, dead church where all they do is sing some boring song out of a hymnal and you do your time and go to lunch. Kid's need to know that being a Christian is fun and exciting! The church needs to give hope and life to kids! Hey what is wrong with a little bling-bling! HA!

Good post Bro Dave

I agree with the Pope's position on America, but I disagree with him on how to solve the problem.

Churches need to be preaching God's Word, Christ crucified and repentance. They need to be preaching the OT as well and fulfilled prophesies. It might help if more churches had a youth service running parallel with the adult service and making the Word more interesting and exciting to the younger folks, but still keeping it true and without embellishment.

The Church needs to spend more time doing the Gospel:

Heal the sick, visit the widows and orphans (or equivalent to our society), cloth the naked, feed the poor, etc. This is the Church the world needs to see.

The youth need to belong to something. We need to give them something to truly belong to. Our churches need to be families. If it is more a program than anything else, we'll lose them. Many youth need spiritual mothers and fathers, as many parents are too lost in their own problems to minister to the needs of the youth in this way.

Give them love, they will come.

In my town, there is one church that has an evening service just for the youth and teens. It is geared for them and many teens have given their life to Jesus Christ. Tonight there will be three baptism of teens.

I think more churches need to have services just for teens and I think that will bring them in to churches. Having teens witness to them helps also, because they will listen more to ppl that know what's going on then a parent or another adult.

The teens in this church do everything themselves. Even the music is done by the teens, with the Pastor's guidance.

By the way, for what it's worth, I used to live in Fairbanks, back in the early sixties.

Icpguy, did you know that the tunnels under the college are closed now. It got to be a troubled place. Fairbanks is like Anchorage now, too many ppl and lots of crime. Cordova is my home and nice quite crime free place to live.

It's also home of the Copper River salmon. The oil spill in 1989 really hurt Prince William Sound, and Exxon will not pay for the damage they did. The oil really hurt the fishing community.

So, how long did you live in Fairbanks?

Greetings Cats! Still praying you will be delivered from your physical ailments....

I think it's also our job to PRESENT the Truth. And I think the thing the kids need most is someone who genuinely loves them. The world is so de-humanized. A few days ago I was in a McDonalds and they had computer touch screens (almost called them 'punch' screens; freudian slip I suppose), so you don't even get to have human contact to order your food.

Human beings, especially the young, who are just learning to be menschen must have HUMAN exposure to those who are advanced in menschgeschichte.

I only know this from an intellectual standpoint....I find teens IRRITATING! But I now know I MUST learn to love them, cherish them, fellowhip and disciple them. So must we all. May God give me a great love for teens.

With a blessing,

Leonard, a sinner

Pope denounces ``self-centered demands'' for abortion and same-sex unions

-

Friday, June 4, 2004

(06-04) 07:58 PDT VATICAN CITY (AP) --

In his latest blunt assessment of U.S. society, Pope John Paul II on Friday denounced the acceptance of abortion and same-sex unions as "self-centered demands" erroneously depicted as human rights.

The pontiff said that "in the face of such erroneous yet pervasive thinking," visiting U.S. bishops should stress to congregations "their special responsibility for evangelizing culture and promoting Christian values in society and public life."

"Rights are at times reduced to self-centered demands: the growth of prostitution and pornography in the name of adult choice, the acceptance of abortion in the name of women's rights, the approval of same sex unions in the name of homosexual rights," he said.

The Catholic Church forbids abortion and considers homosexual activity a sin.

Last week, John Paul warned another group of U.S. prelates that American society is in danger of surrendering to a "soulless vision of life."

Greeting the latest group of bishops on the same day he held a private audience with President Bush, John Paul acknowledged the challenges to Catholic Church teaching and faith.

"Ambiguous moral positions, the distortion of reason by particular interest groups ... are just some examples of a perspective of life which fails to seek truth itself and then abandons the search for the ultimate goal and meaning of human existence," John Paul said.

He urged church leaders to be courageous despite detractors. "Some today view Christianity as weighed down by structures and failing to respond to people's spiritual needs," he said.

Every bishop must visit the Vatican every five years for periodic consultations. This year is the turn of bishops from the United States.

By golly I think he's got it?

Now how to get our society straight? Any takers?

I say," Hail Mighty Warrior!"

Peace,

Dave

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
