The things that mark an apostle---signs,wonders and miracles---were done among you with great perserverance.(2 Cor 12:12) just what were these signs and wonders? Did they pass away after the death of the apostles. are these the gifts of 1 Corinthians 12-14. and does this mean all these gifts passed away after the 1st century?

There are people who will tell you the gifts are gone. There are people who will tell you all the gifts are still active.

I have been in churches where both of those statements could be proved. I have seen people healed, or at least made better, by prayer. I have seen provision that is very timely.

I believe the gifts are still active. I am not so sure I believe the office of Apostle is still active.

Hi Friar:

Could please tell where you get your scriptural reference for such a statement? :emot-pray:

In the broad sense todays apostles would be those who are gifted at starting new ministries in unreached places (church planters, missionaries, etc.)

I agree.

The definition of an Apostle is not found in scripture, as far as I know. Some have contended that an Apostle is one that has witnessed the resurection of Christ. Yet nowhere in scripture does it say that Paul was around to witness on that third day.

In light of this scholars have surmised that Paul's vision on the road to Damascus was the witness needed to declare himself an Apostle. I think that is stretching the assumption in order to accomodate Paul's ministry.

I believe that Apostle is synonimous to Missionary, that later word not being used back then.

The Five fold Ministry Gifts of Eph. 4 are Gifts that are given to the Church or the Body for the edification (Building up, Discipling) of the Saints. The Church is in great need of these Gifts I think more today than ever. They are actually position of Leadership within the body designed and assigned for edification. They are actually callings that Jesus places on individuals inviting them to enter their ministry and partner with Him for such a cause.

This no lessens the calling with have as the redeemed to go into the world and make disciples of every nation, (The Great Commission).

However these 5 Gifts of Leadership carry much weight and responsability with them.

Ex. The Teacher will be judged more strickly for his ministry. Ja. (3:1)

Cheers

qualifications of an apostle are given in Acts1:21-22 Therefore it is necessaryto coose one of the menwho have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,beginning from John's baptism to the time thaJesus was taken up from usfor one of these must become a witnesswith us of his resurrection. I think the the key qualification was he had to be an eyewitness of the ressurrected christ. the apostle paul met the resurrected christ on the damascus road. nobody living today can make the claim of seeing the ressurected christ in the flesh so to speak therefore there are no apostles today

"And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. " (Rev. 21:14)

There are only 12 foundations to the holy city. That is how we can be assured that there were/are only 12 apostles of the Lamb.

I know others that have met Christ, in person, does that qualify them to be an Apostle?

how about the 7 year old boy that was in the process of drowning when he seen a hand in front of him, and when he grabbed it, ended up on the side of the pool with no one else there...... whos hand? the boy believes it was the hand of Christ, and the voice of Christ spoke to him........

how about the lady that was blind and seen Christ, several days prior to her going home? while she was spending time in the Hospital for her chemo and radiation treatments, she would go from room to room telling people of Christ and how they can become one of Christ's...... while there, her son would read from the Bible every day..... this lady stayed up, believed that no matter what happens with her life, that God is in control. being she has seen Christ, does that make her an Apostle?

A man, looked up and seen Christ, reached out and called out "Pull me up, pull me up.... Pull me up", layed down and drew his last breath.... this man loved Christ, and is a man of God.......

now, how many were there? there was 12, one passed on, one more taken in to the group, one more passed on, and another brought in.... how many others have been lost and gained?

I believe all the Gifts......ALL THE GIFTS.... are still in operation, no where have I found that any of them have been deleted, or taken away...... as for the offices? or title of an office? does it really matter? should we be concerned with what office or title we hold or with the advancement of Christ?

some will say that a person can obtain sainthood by having preformed certain things, such as a set number of miricles or healings or some other things.... others say that a person becomes a saint when they have accepted Christ...... neither things i have found in the Word either.....

anyways, the Holy Spirit will open a person up for such things when He is ready....

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
