It has been said that The book of Psalms 118:8 is the exact center of the Bible. Psalms 117 is the shortest Chapter in Psalms and Psalms 119 is the Longest Chapter in Psalms.

My Questions?

1. Has anyone ever counted the words before and after Psalms 118:8 to see if they are equal!

2. Has anyone ever counted the chapters before and after Psalms 118:8 to see if they two are equal!

3rd Question

In the English version why is psalms 118:8 the exact middle of the Bible and did you ever read what it says! I find this amazing to say the Least. I tried one time to determine the chapters front and back of it but gave up. There has to be some kind of program out there that can do the calculations in any Language. I just would like to know!

Come on some of you intellectual people with math skills must have a program suited for this experiment to see if this might be exact!

I hate to rain on a parade but I did a Google search about your topic. I thought it pretty neat that there were those that say there is 594 chapters before and 594 after but then I read where it depends on what translation you're going by. The comments below are from a website that debunks chain letters. It seems the very thing you brought up in this topic has gone around in chain letters and this website Break The Chain is in existence to tell people to break certain chain mail links.

The email reference that the website debunks dated 2002 is extracted below:

E-mail chain letters give a lot a credence to the theory that numbers aren't random and apparent patterns and symmetry must have some significance. Such is the case with the "Center of the Bible" theory. Too bad the numbers don't add up.

I FOUND THIS PRETTY AMAZING. AFTER ALL THE BIBLE SAYS THAT IN THE END KNOWLEDGE WOULD BE INCREASED, THIS HAS BEEN IN THE BIBLE SINCE THE BEGINNING

YET NOT UNTIL RECENTLY HAS IT BEEN REVEALED. READ ON YOU'LL FIND IT INTERESTING. AND MAY I ADD THAT WITHIN EVERY BIBLE SEPARATING THE NEW TESTAMENT FROM THE OLD YOU WILL FIND A BLANK PAGE, THIS PAGE REPRESENTS 400 YEARS (BETTER KNOW AS THE DARK AGES)

Even if you are not religious, you should read this. It is very interesting.

What is the shortest chapter in the Bible?

Answer - Psalms 117

What is the longest chapter in the Bible?

Answer - Psalms 119

Which chapter is in the center of the Bible?

Answer - Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

Add these numbers up and you get 1188

What is the center verse in the Bible?

Answer - Psalms 118:8

Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will for our lives?

The next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word!

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV) "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Now isn't that odd how this worked out (or was God in the center of it)?

Before sending this, I said a prayer for you. You got a minute? 60 seconds for God? All you do, is simply say a small prayer for the person who sent you this.

"Father God bless _________ in whatever it is that you know he/she may be needing this day! And may __________ life be full of your peace, prosperity and power as he/she seeks to have a closer relationship with You. Amen"

Then send it on to five other people. Within hours five people have prayed for you, and you caused a multitude of people to pray to God for other people.

Then sit back and watch the power of God work in your life for doing the thing that you know he loves.

Faith doesn't get you around trouble, it gets you through it.

The website's review is extracted below:

According to independent research, the King James Version (KJV) of the Holy Bible contains 1189 chapters; Psalm 117 is the 595th; there are 594 chapters before Psalm 117, and 594 after it. Thus, it is 117, not 118, that is the center chapter of the bible.

The KJV has an even number of verses (31,102) and, thus, does not have a single middle verse. The "middle verses" are Psalm 103:1-2, with 15,550 verses before and after.

Psalms 103: 1 & 2:

A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

There are small variations in the number of verses from one Bible version to another. The order of the books in the Bible was not settled until the 4th century; the Hebrew Old Testament puts the books in a different order than that used by Christians; and the division into chapters and verses was done between the 13th and 16th centuries.

The e-mail does get two things correct: Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the Bible, and Psalm 119 the longest. Other than that, it just doesn't add up. Break this Chain.

I'm certainly no expert but there were several links I clicked on that were of the mind that it depends on what version you're looking at. Of course, I also read where some place great significance on Psalm 118:8 being in the middle of the bible and the meaning behind that verse. It all depends on the version you're looking at and what I've replied with here doesn't mean I found the so-called answer to your dilemma

Your topic is indeed interesting though. Thanks for posting it

Whoa... don't feel too bad about there not being any takers for your topic, that is, until I gave my weak reply because it looks like someone posted your same topic here in WCF back in March 2003 and didn't get any "takers" either.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
