QUOTE botz...

In that passge in Matthew 22:30 that you referred to, in the verse before it, Jesus makes a very interesting and intriguing statement...."You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures, or the power of G-d..."...food for thought.

REPLY Arch2...makes no sense and what is your application--a backhand insult?

No I don't think the L-rd was trying to insult anyone...just trying to show them that they may know the Scriptures very well, but not always understand their true application....as for the verse, it still intrigues me, and as yet I do no have a decent handle on it and it remains as mental ambrosia.

In actual fact if you had read through the thread, you would have already seen that some of us...myself included, are strongly in favour of the brief conclussions you have mentioned...only perhaps we worded them slightly less formally or forcefully.

I'd still be interested in hearing of these more 'qualified books/essays' about the subject that you personally have mentioned...

i find it very painful to read discussions by people who cannot turn to more qualified men of God and their works to talk about a passage of scripture. if you are going to talk about scripture, get out of the pop christianity books and get into real acadmic material written by men of God and not pretenders.
and I think when exrockstar was asking for a contribution and not just criticism you might have provided him with some references so that he could get his teeth into them.

i will stick with the idea that men of God were lured away by their desires for beautiful women, we have plenty of evidence for that in the Bible and history -- david, solomon, bakker, swaggert, haggard (a man though). nothing supports the angel theory.

so you believe everyone after Adam is a "son of God" "or aka "son of Elohim?"

kind of makes the Bible a sci-fi novel not a book of truth.
tell that to an atheist when you share a story of a snake convincing Eve to eat an apple.

Hi Arch2...

try the I.S.B.E. for starters,

believe it or not I have sourced numerous reference works, having already come to what I believed was a Scriptural conclusion, and what I read for the most part further endorsed what I believed...but on this issue, I still have room to accomodate fasts that I have not entertained, and better biblical exergesis and application than I have so far endeavoured to bring to the Scriptures. I did as you suggested, but the I.S.B.E had no new light to throw on the subject.

i have. do you think that christian forums are the only place i post?

Again I think the reference to the talking serpent was a light-hearted but poignant observation...I'm sure you spread love and harmony on all forums that you visit  pssstt that was just a friendly jibe.

Why? all Jesus is doing is pointing out that without a regenerated mind and the help of the Holy Spirit one does not clearly understand what God is saying. This is reinforced by Paul later. people who do not believe God do not get the keys to unlocking what God is saying. that is why you do not listen to seular people or those who preach adifferent gospel than the one Jesus and the apostles brought, such people just do not grasp what God's message really is.

I see what you're saying, and I think that it is well put...in other words they/unregenerated are unable to discern the Scriptures or comprehend the very nature and purposes of G-d...because as you point out these resources are inherited by birth-right, and not simply by studious application...it is clearer now, thanks.

In Messiah. Botz

seems someone edited my words without permission and i know there was nothing wrong with them. i won't repost them as the comment they were answering will go on the ignore list as a personal attack.

i would prefer if you refrained from such things.

You got it....t'was but a humour thermometer, I see now that you prefer 'formal' to friendly', so in deference to your wishes I will 'refrain' from light-hearted repartee.

believe it or not I have sourced numerous reference works, having already come to what I believed was a Scriptural conclusion, and what I read for the most part further endorsed what I believed

then quote your sources, since your conclusions came from your study.

...You misunderstand...my conclusions were already in place before I attempted to see what other people had written about the subject...I generally exhaust my cross references in the Bible, before I ever look elsewhere for possible clarification, and these I have already stated....but here are some of the books and sources I referenced, that gave both view-points:-

Harper's Bible Dictionary.

Steve Quayle's book 'Aliens and Fallen Angels.

Book of Enoch

Rabbi Stanley from Mosaic ministries

Wikipedia

Rational Christianity

Jamieson-Fausset Brown Commentary

Smith's Bible dictionary

and a great many more besides...Many have differing/opposing views, but it was nevertheless interesting and informative reading when possible, how they came to their conclusions...even some of the more whacky stuff....and my other source has been friends here on Worthy, who have supplied challenging counters to what I personally hold to.

i'm always looking for opposing views. i may not agree but nevertheless give it a chance.

many act like jehovah's witnesses and just wanna drop off literature but will not take something given to them.

If one has "truth" then it will stand on it's own and do not need to run away opposing conversations.

I agree...and sometimes within the household of faith, I am forced to reassess some of the things I have held dear, or maybe just absorbed without too much thought...and because I respect them and the voice of the Spirit in what they present, I look deeper into His word searching for truth, and G-d corrects me, or broadens my narrow/uninformed/wrongly taught/wrongly understood outlook.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
