The Old Covenant was The Ten Commandment Covenant Deut 4:13; Ex 34:28. The New Covenant is the Old Covenant engraved in our hearts and minds. Jer 31:31-34; Heb 8:10;10:16 - An Internal Covenant.

"Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tablets of the heart." 2 Cor 3:2,3.

#1 "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."

#2 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God AM a jealous God, visiting the iniquity (lawlessness) of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me: and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments."

"Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." 1 Cor 10:14; Ga 5:20; Col 3:5; 1 Thess 1:9; 1 John 5:21;Rev 9:20.

#3 "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain. (It, also, means to take His name lightly.)

"And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give Him glory." Rev 16:9; 1 Pe 4:14; Ro 2:24; Acts 4:12; Phil 2:9,10; Rev 13:6.

#4 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."

Jesus referred to himself as "The Lord of the Sabbath." Mt 12:8; Mk 2:28; Lu 6:5. Jesus prophesied, that, the Sabbath would be kept during The Great Tribulation, and we are not there, yet. Mt 24:20. The children of Israel, Jesus, His disciples, and the New Testament Christians kept the Sabbath holy. Mt 12:1,2,5,8,10,11,12; 24:20; 28:1; Mk 1:21;2:23,24,27,28...Acts 1:12;13:14,27,42,44;15:21;16:13;17:2;18:4.

Isaiah prophesied, that, God's people will keep the Sabbath in His kingdom. Isa 66:22,23.

#5 "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee."

"For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy." 2 Tim 3:2; Mt 10:21; Rom 1:30; Eph 6:1; Col 3:20...

#6 "Thou shalt not kill."

Jesus said, "...Thou shalt do no murder..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20; Rom 13:9; Ja 2:11...

#7 "Thou shalt not commit adultery."

Jesus said, "...Thou shalt not commit adultery..." Mt 19;18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20; Rom 13:9; Ja 2:11...

#8 "Thou shalt not steal."

Jesus said, "Thou knowest the commandments...Do not steal..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20...

#9 "Thou shalt not bear false witness."

Jesus said, "...Thou shalt not bear false witness..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20...

#10 "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his man servant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's."

"...Thou shalt not covet..." Ro 13:9; 7:7; 1 Cor 5:10,11;6:10;Eph 5:5; 1 Tim 3:3; 2 Tim 3:2; 2 Pe 2:14...

"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions ("of the law" 1 John 3:4) from us...TO SUCH AS KEEP HIS COVENANT AND TO THOSE THAT REMEMBER HIS COMMANDMENTS TO DO THEM." Ps 103.

"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have RIGHT to the tree of life, AND MAY ENTER IN through the gates into the city." Rev 22:14

Covenants have conditions.

Even in heaven, the Lord makes quite a statement about His Covenant:

"And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple The Ark of His Testament: and there were LIGHTNINGS, and VOICES, and THUNDERINGS, and AN EARTHQUAKE, and GREAT HAIL." Rev 11:19.

The was, only One Covenant in The Ark - THE TEN COMMANDMENT COVENANT.

The covenant between GOD and Abraham was strictly one sided. It was a promise from GOD that was given long before the law of Moses. It had no requirement from Abraham what-so-ever.

The covenant with Israel to prosper them in this life and in the promised land came conditions that were established in the law.

The covenant between Christians and GOD is part of the covenant with Abraham. It is unconditional salvation by grace alone, through faith alone.

OT Or NT It Seems The Same Good News To Me!

He Is Risen

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. Job 19:25-27

Believe His Words

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16

And Call Upon His Name

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. Joel 2:32

Living By Our Faith

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:4

Loving Our LORD

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul,

and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: Deuteronomy 6:4-6

Neighbors Too

but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18(b)

OT Or NT, The Gospel Is The Same

Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Psalms 22:12-18

Jesus Saves

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:5-6

The covenant between GOD and Abraham was strictly one sided. It was a promise from GOD that was given long before the law of Moses. It had no requirement from Abraham what-so-ever.

Brother Kross,

The covenant with Abraham was not one sided, but required much of Abraham, as do all the Covenants made by God. They are all just renewals of the 'everlasting covenant' God made with Adam and Eve to save from sin. All pointed to the New Covenant and Jesus, that was what the sacrifices were all about. All required obedience to the God who does not change.

The covenant with Abraham was twofold, the first part was that he would be the father of many nations, as he walked before the Lord in tighteousness.

Gen 17:1
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God;
walk before me, and
be perfect
.
(so we see that God required obedience and righteousness)

17:2
And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

17:3
And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

17:4
As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

The Second part of the Covenant was that he and his descendants would in herit the Cannan, the Promised land, which was also promised to Israel in the Old Covenant.

Ge 17:7
And I will establish
my covenant
between me and you and
your seed after you
in their generations for an
everlasting covenant,
to be a God to you, and to your seed after you.
(An everlasting Covenant is just that, a covenant that lasts forever)

17:8
And
I will give to you,
and to
your seed after you,
the land wherein you are a stranger, all the
land of Canaan,
for an
everlasting possession;
and I will be their God.
(Now Abraham never possessed Cannan, as an everlasting possession, and neither did Israel, so this was speaking of the future inheritace of all the Children of God, the heavenly Canaan)

17:9
And God said to Abraham, you shalt
keep my covenant
therefore, you, and your seed after you in their generations.

17:10
This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you;
Every man child
among you
shall be circumcised.

17:11
And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and
it shall be a token
of the
covenant between me and you.

So we see that circumcision was to be a token or sign, ceremonial obedience, of the first mentioned Covenant to make him a father of many nations conditioned on him walking before the Lord and being perfect, or complete in doing the will of God.

Here we have more of God's testimony concerning Abraham and His obedience which the Lord required above in renewing the covenant with Isaac,

Ge 26:3
Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for to you, and to your seed, I will give all these countries, and
I will perform the oath
(covenant)
which
I sware to Abraham
your father;

Ge 26:4
And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to your seed all these countries; and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

Ge 26:5
Because
Abraham obeyed my voice,
and
kept
my charge,
my commandments
,
my statutes
,
and
my laws
.

The Covenant with Israel was just another renewal of the 'everlasting Covenant' with the Law written in stone and a more detailed sacrificial system with its attendant feast days.

The covenant with Israel to prosper them in this life and in the promised land came conditions that were established in the law.

The New Covenant was another renewal of the 'everlasting covenant' with Israel in which God would write His laws in the believer's heart, 'to love God with all the heart, mind, soul and strength' and to 'love your neighbor as yourself, which includes also ones enemies. This would of course include the Ten Commandments, which identify the main sins commited by the unsaved man.

The covenant between Christians and GOD is part of the covenant with Abraham. It is unconditional salvation by grace alone, through faith alone.

Here again it is not unconditional, but requires one be crucified with Christ and Born from above By the Spirit of God. It is an all inclusive covenant. Here again is the testimony of God on the subbject,

2co 7:1
Having therefore these promises,
dearly beloved,
let us cleanse ourselves
from
all filthiness
of the
flesh
and
spirit,
perfecting holiness
in the
fear of God.

Here Paul makes it quite inclusive. These do not save, but are the requirements of the 'saved man'. All of the covenants were to save, and all were freely offered, but all had requirements to follow God's will.

I realize this is not popular today, but it is Scriptural.

God bless,

Dennis

You left out a key point. At the ratification of the covenant in Genesis, God was the only one who passed through the remains of the animals. By doing this he was saying that if you Abraham break this covenent, I will pay the penalty in my blood. Thus it was a unilateral covenant (because only one of the parties guaranteed it).

Brother Eric,

I appreciate your response. As to the covenant referenced in Gen. 15, it was a promise only to inherit the land. As far as I understand, the Lord passing through, did not necessarily ratify the Covenant of Genesis 17, when Abram's name was changed and he was made the father of many nations, but only that of chapt. 15, although it was inhherent in the promise to him and his seed in Gen 15. As with most covenants, more was revealed through time.

I am not sure that God ratifies Covenants, He only makes them and fulfills them. His word is all that is needed and then it is up to man as to whether he accepts the covenant or not. A covenant is a contractural agreement between parties. It is a binding contract between God and man. God proises to supply certain things and stipulates the requirements of the covenant, and man either agrees or rejects the terms offered.

I see the promise of forgiveness and a Savior demonstrated in Genesis 22, when God provided a lamb as a substitute sacrifice for Isaac. This is where, as Jesus said, 'Abraham saw My day and was glad'.

God bless,

Dennis

Amen Brother dcampsart,

Only those who love God with all their heart, mind, soul and strength eagerly await Jesus coming. They have the New Covenant experience, they have been 'born again' from above by the 'Spirit of the Living God' and are indwelt by the Godhead. They are Pilgrims and strangers in this land and long to reach their heavenly home. They love God and His will and will do anything to please Him in all things.

2co 6:16
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? for
you are
the
temple of the living God;
as God has said,
I will dwell in them,
and
walk in them;
and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2co 5:17
Therefore
if any man
be in Christ, he is a
new creature
:
old things are
passed away
;
behold,
all things
are
become new
.

5:18
And
all things are of God
.....

Thus we see the fulfillment of the 'Everlasting Covenant' made in the Garden with all of mankind through Adam and Eve, that of a 'seed' who would 'crush the Serpent's head'.

God Bless,

Dennis

I don't agree that genesis 15 should be isolated, or that God does not ratify covenants. It is a reiteration of genesis 12 that inlcudes offspring, land, and and blessing though the divine presence

Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
