Our world may be a giant hologram

* 15 January 2009 by Marcus Chown

* Magazine issue 2691.

DRIVING through the countryside south of Hanover, it would be easy to miss the GEO600 experiment. . . .

<snip>

... [Craig] Hogan, who has just been appointed director of Fermilab's Center for Particle Astrophysics, has an even bigger shock in store: "If the GEO600 result is what I suspect it is, then we are all living in a giant cosmic hologram."

The idea that we live in a hologram probably sounds absurd, but it is a natural extension of our best understanding of black holes, and something with a pretty firm theoretical footing. It has also been surprisingly helpful for physicists wrestling with theories of how the universe works at its most fundamental level.

The holograms you find on credit cards and banknotes are etched on two-dimensional plastic films. When light bounces off them, it recreates the appearance of a 3D image. In the 1990s physicists Leonard Susskind and Nobel prizewinner Gerard 't Hooft suggested that the same principle might apply to the universe as a whole. Our everyday experience might itself be a holographic projection of physical processes that take place on a distant, 2D surface.

Now wait just a cotton-pickin' minute! Is he saying that we are all just holograms? Then who are we being holograms to? What's the point of being a hologram if there's no audience? Who made the platform for us? Is this based on science or what he drank for lunch? What a load of fertilizer! :wub:

You need to read the article.

I actually think the proposition makes a lot of sense from a theological standpoint.

My dad came theorized this after watching The Matrix - the "real world" is what we call the spiritual realm and this world is "the illusion."

i do believe that all we phisicaly see here in this plane of existence is temporary ,,, like that one science dude said that we are just a buncha molecuils bouncing around and we see what the observer wants us to see ,,, to me the observer is god and i can kinda relate to what he is saying about the hologram thing ,,, ya can say this world will fade away or be destoyed or what ever ,,, ill agree with that because the bible says it will ,,,and i will entertain what science has to say for ya never know what could be wrong or right if you dont prove the spirit in others ,,, keeping with an open mind yet grounded in the word this hologram thing ultimatly says there is a god ,,, with that part i do agree ,,, and i agree that god projects (creates all things) and if god was to stop thinking about anything it would not exist ... god thinks it therefor it does exist ... i live in gods creation ,,, if god stopped thinking of me it would be like erasing me off the face of his creation (thank you jesus for remembering me) ,,, now weather god does this with a hologram or not i cant say ,,, but ill keep it in mind so when i get to the real place im gonna spend eternity at i can ask god about this ,,, im sure he will explain it to us fully

love in christ arrow from god (i just cant see my lord setting up a projector :wub: )

Is this a case of life imitating art or art imitating life? :):amen:

Strangely, I do understand the thought process here.

Reality is the Spiritual realm. :wub:

Peace,

Dave

Oh' there she is, she came back. I thought she got raptured. :thumbsup::cool:

I have a question, "If a tree falls in the woods and nobody's around to hear it does it still make a sound or is the sound only heard in the Spiritual realm?"

I did read the article. While it's an interesting idea....I still think it's a load of fertilizer. Now if they PROVE their theory....I'll change my mind. Truthfully....if what they say is true, no one but God could make it so. :rolleyes:

How does one prove anything? :rolleyes:

But what is your reason for flat out rejecting the idea? Do you know a fair amount about quantum theory and string theory and subatomic theory such that you can make this flat-out assessment? Or do you have solid evidence that the standard light-wave theories are unquestionable? :cool:

I mean, do you have your mind wrapped around particle physics enough to actually understand all that they were saying? :vader:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
