Israel mopped the ground with Hamas, but they have to protect their image and pretend that Israel left because they were run out of Gaza. they have to do this project an image of strength. Keep in mind that in their minds, this is a religious war. If they admit defeat, it is the same to them as saying that the God of the Jews defeated allah.
