You need both, in spiritual terms the sword is the Word and we need it to combat against the lies of the devil. And the shield is our Faith which wards off the fiery arrows of men's speech that try to belittle and mock and attack our faith. But in regards to literal combat like back in the day with sword shield chariots and arrows, I would rather a shield, because if anything it could be used as a weapon by the edge of it.

Baltimore prosecutor files charges in Freddie Gray Case

I didn't say I have all the facts I'm just stating what's already been gathered, seems like you're quick to believe another prisoner's testimony that would insue that the officers should not be prosecuted. Ok let's wait. -

I think you missed it.....So it wasn't possible for the second prisoner to witness Mr. Gray bang his head against the inside of the BPD wagon when he was already unresponsive. -

Because it is reported that when the second prisoner was apprehended, it was the fourth or fifth stop in the route and freddy was already unresponsive by then. -

At what time in the route did they apprehend that prisoner? -

Self inflicted means: (of a wound or other harm) inflicted on oneself. How does one self inflict himself of a spinal injury in circumspect of the events transpired in this case? When he ran, he did of his own accord fall headlong to the ground and damage his spine that way, and did he did have the will to self inflict his injury when he was handcuffed and thrown head first into the paddywagon? The chief of police I believe said that after the autopsy that none of his bones were broken only his back spine. So it confuses me how you arrive to the conclusion that his injury was self inflicting. What evidence are you possessing that shows that? Who said he was murdered by police? I sure didn't , because he wasn't. I don't follow media. I listened to what the chief of police has said, and viewed the events captured on phone video void of bias opinion. I didn't follow the Michael Brown case, for you to link this to that proves that your coming in with preconceived notions rather than looking at this as a case of itself. -
Baltimore prosecutor files charges in Freddie Gray Case
Alejandro84 replied to Burning_Ember's topic in U.S. News
If it were me I would confess my guilt of abuse of power. Clearly his spine didn't snap by his own doing or happen spontaneously on its own, and clearly he was wrongfully imprisoned for charges of allegedly possessing a knife, and clearly he did not assault any officers that would warrant such accessive force that would damage his back spine and then fall into a coma. For someone to look at the facts already known is not judging before it's time. Only what's left is judgment in regards to the extent of punishment to be issued, of that I can't pass judgment, for that's for the judge and jury to decide. One thing one shouldn't do is look at a battered and bruised body of a 25 year old and not see the physical evidence that's clear as day. If the police report says suspect assaulted an officer than I can find cause for them to use force to defend and protect themselves, but if not , why was the small frame body of a 25 year old treated that way? -

These are charges that I believe the officers involved should be convicted of. -
Hi firestorm, I think the best answer is found in Acts 15 where it says: 5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. 6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. 7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. 12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. 13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: 14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. 15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, 16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. 18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. 19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

The bare minimum is to know that the words that Christ spoke in concerning salvation where spiritual not literal. He is the bread and water that fulfills the starvation of a depraved soul, by believing that he came to fulfill all righteousness and redeem us back to God by his sacrifice offered once alone. To believe that he spoke literally in concerning the eating of his flesh and drinking of his blood as an ongoing sacrament needed to be carried out to save ones soul is the direct opposite of the gospel of Christ. Salvation is in the work of God, not in the merit and performance of man.

That'll definitely work. So there shouldn't be no problem at all either which way, as long as they both are in the Lord!
-
Yeah I agree with what you've wrote mev. I guess you're talking about the relationship that man had with God in the garden?
-
Yes only God can bring this to be. There is a lot of men, just like in the days of old, who have head knowledge about God and can give mental accent to his word, but only God can birth and put truth in ones inward parts. For your second question, it depends on the audience, if the people are born again already they should already have a fire kindled in them, and when the Word is teached, it's just an affirmation and encouragement to the Faith and hope that has already been poured into their hearts. If the class is set up like a bible 101 then yes it's like studying for head knowledge and Wil be as just academics. But it all depends on the teacher, is he just following curriculum that has been laid out not to waver from or is he lead by the Spirit of God? That's the difference.

Alejandro84 replied to amilya213's topic in Have a problem? Looking for advice?
Hi amilya, what I picked up on as being the most important thing to me in what you post was when you said: "All day long I self-condemn and I have tired so many things - and yes "I know" that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus but try telling my brain that! " You have the answer but you don't even know it! For you even to say that you know the scripture verse that says that but still feel condemned by your thoughts, your answer is to remember the scriptures in those moments. You know that the Word of God is truth itself, So whatever your thoughts are, they have to be weighed upon what the Word of God says. In the Word it says to bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) so every time a thought of condemnation comes you remember and say that it is Christ who was condemned, made a curse for thee, So that he can set you free and give you life of liberty! The more the living word of God becomes real to you the more you'll have as a protecting shield to ward of the arrows of doubt and condemnation in your mind. I pray the Lord give you rest and assurance to know that you who he set free is free indeed. He has given you the victory that when trials and doubt come you may overcome them by the faith and hope in which Christ has poured in your heart. You're no longer in chains and without out battle armor to be beaten and bruised by the enemy, but now you have truth down in your loins to combat the lie of the world and your thoughts, breastplate of righteousness in that your heart has been made new and is now protected by the righteousness of Christ, a shod for your feet with the gospel of peace meaning you have sure steps of hope , in which yourself is encouraged and can share with others the hope that they may believe and be set free, no longer tripping over walking in darkness, next the shield of Faith in which your guarded from the not walking by sight in a world of despair and fabrications, helmet of salvation (youre going to like this one) this is the peace of mind, the blessed assurance that It is Christ who saves to the uttermost and is able to keep you nad preserve you, and give you the victory no matter what doubt the enemy tries to sow, and the sword of the spirit , that one the enemy tries to strike a blow with a dull kitchen butter knife you can strike back with the Word of God which is a double edged sword! For you are triumphant in Christ! Believe that my sister -
I totally know where your coming from, i listened to multiple sermons from John Macarthur, i bought his study reference bible, and also attended one of his associated churches down here in florida. Rather than ephasizing that its the Spirit that will correct, Lordship salvation focuses on your own merit. Its the grace of God that teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts yes, but the way Macarthur teaches it is too much on the side of the strength of ones flesh. Exactly! I became so weary "trying" that I began to question my own salvation - often. I have a personality that causes me, when influenced by something, to dive right into the deep end. Intellectual laziness, I suppose. Yep, I hear ya on that. Glad the Lord lead you out of that spider web.

Hi Tinky, simply a change of mind, in which the Holy Spririt does by the washing of regeneration of the mind and having a good conscience toward God (ref. Titus 3:5, and 1 Peter 3:21) and He does this in us by our belief in his gospel of grace. Now during our walk it is the Holy Spirit that will correct us and chaste us when we start again to look toward the flesh, the raging sea and not fix our eyes on Jesus. Not Lordship salvation, cause Lordship salvation is just like striving on your own merit like the false doctrine of catholicism to right yourself before God.

Not sure what to do... (advice needed)
Alejandro84 replied to shas456's topic in Have a problem? Looking for advice?
Hi shas456 Yes your first instinct is right, you need to depart from this individual, you can't be lead by your feelings in life but on truth and discernment from the Lord. Two can't walk together except they be agreed. What you can't do is try to walk with him trying to make him agree, it won't work. I've been through the same thing myself with relationship with a woman. No matter how many times I related scripture in application to daily life, you can't birth it in them. Only the Lord can sober a person unto eternal life and open his eyes. For your own best interest and not to further apply arrows of hurt to your heart over him, it is best to put your feelings aside and say "Lord if it is your will you will see for me to find a man with a new heart that's focused on you". -
Hi GerdaHannah, yes it's found in Titus 2:3-4 "The aged women likewise that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,"
