  1. Really an irrelevent question. The world is devided into Christian and non christian, one either serves God or one is his enemy.
  2. From what perspective is this written? Job comlained bitterly about the cruel and unjust treatment he recieved. God is not simple and any attempt to understand God that makes God apear simple is incorect. God gives us life. He also removes it at his choice, his timing, for his reasons. As with Job he gives and removes welth at his discretion.
  3. The passage is about a stubborn rebellious people who will not listen to Gods prophet but listen to false prophets who have lead them away from serving God. The result is judgement. The lesson for us is not about control, but about obedience to God, do we live as Christians, are we seen to be different from our non christian neighbours, work colleagues etc. Isreal was to have been a ' holy nation ' challenging the world by the way its people lived, they failed, and all too often we fail. How 'holy' are our daily practices, at work, in the home, at school?
  4. Depends what you mean. Proverbs 27:5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love. 6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. and Prov 27:10 A rebuke impresses a discerning person more than a hundred lashes a fool
  5. B B gave a good sumary of the reasons why many books were not included in the bible. If you are going to read them do so with skeptical eyes. What they say is not scripture and is to be judged by scripture.
  6. What you are saying is:- you do not think that scripture is complete or that it contains all we need to know in order to be saved and live to glorify jesus. Nothing stops anyone from reading these books, but just like when someone has a prophetic word or message, test what you read against scripture.
  7. As always it is context, context and context. These verse Do Not say what the post claims. In 2 or 12. Paul is defending his authority as an Apostle against those who denie him that authority, that is the arguing etc he is writing against. in Titus he is writing about pointless discussions that lead to arguments, a current example would be the second coming and the endles, pointless debates about minute details. The Jews have always argued and debated about what and why they belief, that is why Paul is so good at explaining the gospel. We too should discuss, debate and even argue about our faith etc, so long as any aruement is civil.
  8. I suspect not, or at least satan will not willingly enter Gods prescence, his holiness is painful to him.
  9. Many clever people have commented and the sumary of there comments is as Paul write in Romans 1: 21-31 my version:- having rejected God, they rejected his standards and let there lust control them. The real issue is are we ready to live distinctive Christ like lives and accept the consquences of such a life style.
  10. Yes it is very easy to say, but unless one is willing to try it, one is not going to make a start in recovering from that addiction.
  11. Many people post ' questions ' about scripture, often hinting that there is a fault in scripture. Yet when read carefully it is clear the fault is not with scripture but in there understanding of scripture. You have from the begining of this thread said there is a fault with scripture. There are certainly gaps in our knowledge, but gaps are not faults.
  12. What you are saying is, ' If you pray for someone you are acting on the spirits prompting.'
  13. They also need to decide to stop and a large part of that is putting temptation out of reach and when temptation strikes to do something that distracts from the temptation.
  14. It's a nice but untrue story. https://archive.thecitizen.com/archive/main/archive-030309/fp-08.html
  15. Jesus's return will be momentous. The bible says ' every eye will see him' He will return with the host of heaven and while people debate about whether people will rise up prior to his return or durring or what ever. We are also told that those who are not his will be terrerfied, calling on the rocks to hide them! So I doubt whether the news media etc will be very effective in reporting his return. Which means any news program that is pontificating about his return is reporting false news. I would listen/watch for the entertainment.
  16. Take another look at your bible. Matthew chapters 5 -7 are the sermon on the mount, given by Jesus to Jewish people who were curiose about what he was teaching. As for believers left without food etc, please start following the charity Open doors' and investigate what is happening to Christians in North Korea, or in Somalia. Having done your investigation, report back to your church, ask for a slot to report to the church one Sunday on the perscuted church in North Korea and encourage them to pray for them.
  17. That alone shows that the fault is in your understanding anf not in scripture.
  18. Actually we need to ground ourselves in the reality of Jesus and to live for him. Our peace, is based on the knowledge that we are forgiven and that we have the assurance of heaven. Our joy is in the fact that we can talk with God, worship him and serve him. We know that he loves us, Jesus died a discusting, degraging, revolting death for us. He gives us his rightousness and through this a spiritual peace that can overflow into our daily lives. Jesus challenges us all, If we love him, we will show it by how we obey his commandments.
  19. We need to remember that Gods plan for us is not centered on this life or this world. His rescuing of us ultimatly involves getting us to be with him, not returning us to our place of comfort. Read all the promises of Gods help, protection etc etc with Romans 8:28 in the forefront of your mind. " In ALL things God works together for the Good of those who are called according to his will. " All Things literally means ALL things, your loosing your job, wallet, girlfriend, teeth, life etc etc is working for your good. Think about it.
  20. No it is clear that even those in the OT had to have faith in God, that they followed the rituals etc motivated by their faith and love for God.
  21. Define 'the Spirit prompting'? Hearing that ' X' is sick and praying for them, or only if out of the blue one gets an urge to pray for a sick person? Do you limit the spirit to only miraculus acts?
  22. Which makes my point. Any church using apologetics ios also going to be teaching its members about Christianity, not just 'shouting come to Jesus'. One has to understand what one is trying to explain, prove or defend. The whole point of Christianity being a historically fact based belief is that one can know these facts and give a reason for ones belief.
  23. If you don't intend to smoke cigerarettes, get rid of them, put them beyond your reach, that is burn them and don't buy any more. Find something to do when the urge to smoke strikes. Have you joined a local christian church yet?
  24. There are at all times only two groups of people. Christians non christians
  25. It is the direction of pride that is dangerous. When one assumes that what ever one has achieved is All ones own work, that it is sinful. When one acknowledges that ones abilities are from God then prideis a blessing.
